To clarify: An assault rifle is defined by the military as a carbine-length rifle, capable of selective fire (i.e. can be switched to full automatic) that uses ammo more powerful than pistol but less powerful than typical rifle ammo. Even Charlie is confused on this point, as he is really talking about "assault WEAPONS" which is not just another word for assault rifles. Assault weapons is a term made up by gun grabbers to make ordinary carbine length semiautomatic sporting rifles sound scary. What the gun grabbers call assault weapons are not capable of automatic fire, and are NOT used by the military.

Here in the US, our right to bear arms is enshrined in our Constitution, which was written in a time when almost all men owned a firearm, and was used to put food on the table and also was in reserve to protect their lives and properties from hostile governments and the occasional vagabond. These two primary reasons remain germane to this day. Being that is the case, basic firearms safety should be taught to all youngsters, i.e., Assume every gun is loaded. And therefore, never point it at anything or anyone you don't intend to shoot. Nearly every firearms "accident" is a result of not following this basic rule.

He uses the analogy the you are required to get training and a license to drive a car, and thinks this should apply to guns also. Has he ever looked at the number of vehicle related deaths in just 1 month. My daughter n law was killed 2 months ago in car wreck.. there have been more than 100 more fatalities since. I'm in a low population state. How well has that required training and licensing served us.
