For the record, there's nothing wrong with using aspirate onset instead of glottal onset. It's a singing technique people use ALL the time. I just felt his voice wasn't as well supported in these parts and it made those notes sound a bit shakey. But as we could see in the latter portion of the performance, Dan thrives in the 1000% zone. I just wanted make myself clear. This was amazing and his voice moved me deeply ❤

A 250yr old hymn, written by a British poet John Newton, a former slave ship Captain.. during a storm at sea he prayed to be saved and of course he lived.. He found God, became a Minister in the Church and alongside Walpole he worked diligently to get slavery banned. When Dan, a 34 year old Brazilian Christian sings this.. I imagine this is how Newton must have felt way back then, wanting to shout from the roof tops.. It is a hymn of Praise and Joy. Dan sings it Loud and Proud. Thank you for a great breakdown and review.. love hearing how singers achieve some of the great sounds they produce.

His voice on this one reminds me of a young Zach Stevens, especially that little flourish at the end. Not just intonation, but stylistically as well. I wonder if that was an influence for him. It's breathy at the beginning for emotional reasons. Besides the fact that he's typically a metal singer. DAN can sing anything. 💯
@TheCharlieSmithChannel7 ай бұрын
Nope thats not the kind of breathiness I'm describing. I understand you love Dan and want to see everything he does through rose tinted glasses but he is not singing in a breathy style. He is dulling the beginnings of his words with an H. That does nothing to add emotion. It's poor technique that people use when their voice isn't particularly stable singing softly. It's a get out of jail free card essentially.
@BrentHonn7 ай бұрын
@@TheCharlieSmithChannel Wow.... you said it yourself, that when it kicked in, you got excited. Why are you unwilling to realize the rise in emotion and scale of intensity. That's what effected you. Music is not a perfectionist game. It's how you effect your audience and bring them in. Also, pay attention to where his voice is at its best. That requires good breathing and stance. Therefore, his breathing is hard in and out for that result. Air is forced out harder when needed to reach his metal keys.

Dan definitely is a beast unleashed. Love everything about the guy (skills, personality, looks, etc). If you want to backtrack to his Christmas stuff, try Dan's versions of Adeste Fidelis (Latin "O Come All Ye Faithful"), Angels We Have Heard on High (in 4 languages), and O Holy Night. Nothing tame about any of them. He also did a one man choir version of Handel's Messiah, which is fantastic. Amazing Grace introduced me to him & O Holy Night sealed my fate... once I picked my jaw up off the floor. I've been discovering more treasures ever since. There are so many other songs for you to discover as you journey through Vasc Nation. There's Metal version of Kiss From a Rose duet w/Violet Orlandi, Dawn of Victory w/Fabio Lione and Dan's band Fearless, Phantom of the Opera songs, Witcher songs turned metal, Disney covers, and so many more. Most recent songs are his Beauty and the Beast duet with Minniva and his metal version of My Heart Will Go On from Titanic. Dan & his guitarist (Gabriel) also do folk songs like The Bard's Song & Loch Lomond in the Spyglass Inn venture. Plus, there's Dan's cover of The Last Goodbye from The Hobbit. There are too many good songs to list, but that's enough to keep busy for quite a while. Thanks for your reaction. Welcome to the club & and enjoy your trip.

Whatever he does while perfoming is intentional, he leaves nothing to chance, all production aspects are very well thought of. There are currently 245 videos on Dan's channel. I suppose, by the term "renditions," you are meaning that only 218 of them are songs...? It doesn't matter. Dan's info videos are just as interesting as his music videos. There's a lot of wisdom that comes out of Dan's mouth, plus just listening to his lovely Brazilian accent (shhh...don't tell him he still has a bit of one), is always a treat. There are also MORE Dan songs on channels where he has guested. One of those hosts is Violet Orlandi (Kiss from a Rose). Another is Ricardo Confessori (Where the Eagles Fly), with quite a few others out there, as well.

The first time I heard this rendition I cried. It still gives me chills 11 months later. Due to this song some want Dan Vasc (pronounced like "task") to be a gospel singer but he is a metal singer to his bone structure. He has stated he is a Christian and put this out for Easter. Dan has over 230 videos done over several years as he continued to perfect his art. Due to avoiding an exploitive recording contract, Fearless has not put out nearly as much as I and many others would like. They have an album on Spotify that features songs about Old Testament themes with a mythical flair. It's wonderful. They do have one video in which you can see their work together: FEARLESS - Tale With No End (Official Music Video). This Brazilian metal singer has a focus on putting metal to 80's classics, incorporating soft and loud, slow and fast, grit and smooth, and the screams that are in the stratosphere. He covers opera, Disney classics, metal among other genres. Always with the Dan Vasc touch. He is a beast and should never be caged for sure. Thank you for reviewing this incredible piece of art. This is the best version of this song I will ever hear.
@TheCharlieSmithChannel9 ай бұрын
Yes I think calling for him to be a gospel singer just because he did a version of amazing Grace is a bit short sighted haha. His voice is nothing like a gospel singer's.
@GrandmasGotGraceLW9 ай бұрын
@@TheCharlieSmithChannel Agreed. Yet he is very firmly involved in TRUTH (which is what "gospel" means). I think a lot of people who have thought to try to cage this beast into their OLD southern gospel type of music may have been disappointed at first, but most of them have come 'round, so to speak. Now, Dan would do quite well with some of the newer songs that truly glorify the Lord from the heart. I'll just mention a few names if you'd like a listen to some of them. Unfortunately, some of them use VEVO for their recordings, and it can be a bit hard for reactors to get past VEVO's copyright crackdowns (sigh). Here are a couple of listings you might want to search out, that I have a feeling you might really like: Brandon Lake... a new song this past year, that I totally LOVE... Brandon Lake - Count 'Em (Official Music Video) His channel... Brandon Lake @brandonlakeofficial Chandler Moore & Cody Carnes (both are really great)... Firm Foundation (He Won’t) [feat. Chandler Moore & Cody Carnes] | Maverick City Music | TRIBL... Also, Dan does a very short song written and sung by Roy Khan, called "For All." If you react to it, be SURE to run the outro on this older song on Dan's channel. It's very important. Enjoy! 😀
@TheCharlieSmithChannel9 ай бұрын
@@GrandmasGotGraceLW Hmm I think you're wrongly assuming things about those who were suggesting he could do gospel. I react to gospel every Sunday and TRUST me, no one who knows gospel would ever suggest he could or should do that. This isn't a case of people trying to cage him. It's people being a little overzealous and suggesting he could do something they clearly know nothing about. They are reaching hard because they are fanatical and want to beleive that their beloved artist is some sort of superhuman. I get it on literally every youtube artist I react to. They look at their artist as some sort of infallible God and get supper pissed when you treat or talk about them as just a singer 😂

Thank Heaven there’s finally a reactor with the guts to stand up to the Vasc Nation. I have witnessed some who received so many negative comments they refused to react to Vasc in future, and one who allowed the Nation to convince him his opinion was wrong. He took the video down and re-did it, more to their liking. 🙄

@@GrandmasGotGraceLW I agree that "For All" is a wonderful song and the outro is important.
