Love my Chaves redencion 229 kickstop with G10. I've also grown my respect for Reate. Never knew they make knives with such a amazing high quality. There's absolutely nothing nothing wrong with the knife. Perfect centered. Perfect action. amazing hollow grind I mean wow just wow. I now understand why Chaves wanted Reate to make this production model. Absolutely amazing. thx for the great review.

Chaves designs are gorgeous. The skull clip is the cherry on top. I own the Redencion 229 and the Street version with clip point blades. As much as I like them, I always thought they would benefit from a flipper version. The thumb stud deployment can be a little tricky being a frame lock. Now that I see this Kickstop model and I’m really excited to get one in hand. Very very cool.

Yes, I'm not even into skulls and have nothing else at all with skulls but I still love the clip as it looks great and is instant brand recognition. Smart move by Chavez bc you see that skull clip you know exactly who made the knife. I own a liberation street and 229 redencion and love both. I do like the liberation street better as it fits better in the pocket and is an awesome flipper. I think I will be getting this knife though, that kickstop flipper is sweet on this knife

Just received my kickstop 229 today. Many firsts here for me; first kickstop, first Chaves, and my first pocket knife this large. So far I'm absolutely in love with this, from the design, the action, the kickstop, and to the skull that gives it kind of a pirate feel. I swear if they had folders in Pirates of the Caribbean this is what I would have imagined it would look like.

Just got one of these in g10 and I love it with a couple of exceptions. The good: everything you said basically… it looks SOOOo good and is in my top 5 knives. The flipping mechanism sounds great and fires really nicely. I like this knife so much I have a tan to version coming in a few days. Now the bad or questionable: First, the handle has a couple of hotspots near the end of the handle. Under minimal use; cutting my son’s chicken strips, I could feel the hot spots and they are uncomfortable… not a deal breaker but they are noticeable. Second, this knife is not ergonomic as a daily carry… it takes up a lot of room in your pocket and the blade shape in combination with the handle design makes it not the easiest knife to cut with as is basically a rectangle making the user use just the forward edge to cut. Also not a deal breaker as most knives suffer from this design issue. The Microtech stitch, while it looks big and bulky, is actually amazingly ergonomic making it a great daily carry for cutting cheese burgers down for a toddler and also being used for self defense. Finally, the skull clip just doesn’t go on the knife… I get it.. it’s a design choice and I can respect that but it doesn’t match the lines of the knife. It reminds me of the “affliction/tom Hardy/tap out” trends from a decade ago… sure it was a design choice but in retrospect, looking at your old pics you probably think the Tom Hardy shirt paired with your True Religion jeans and spray on tan looks tacky AF now. Same goes with the pocket clip. I’m glad he includes the additional clip for those who want something more discrete. Overall, 9/10… would and have purchased again!

This was such a great move by Ramon and Reate for this update. Each redencion update gets better and better. The function of Ramon’s custom and production knives both have just such a perfect action, his heat treats are perfection imo and the compound grind slices like a laser. I’m a thumb stub guy, but their flipping action is so damn good. If I had to nitpick something I don’t like, it would be the plunge grind being so close to the start of the sharpened edge. The older 229 was much better and you won’t get a smile after the first couple sharpenings. But that’s really a stretch to complain about.

I fell for it. I got the kickstop version and all I can say, I won’t be fooled again. Nothing special about this mechanism. Just way too plain Jane and for those of us that were suckers enough to believe the new mechanism was something special well for me once, fool me twice I know channels like yours are commercials, trying to sell these items and trying to get us to use your links so you have to say nice things about them.
@JimSkeltonKnivesАй бұрын
@@sofakingphat8087 ok, if you didn’t like it, that’s one thing. But head your ass out the door if you’re going to accuse me of being a shill. Been doing this for too long for anyone to think they can come in and just toss that accusation around. And to further prove my point: please show me the link you speak of. I’d like to see it. There aren’t any links to buy shit in the description. And I haven’t watched this since I uploaded it years ago, but I don’t even remember saying which dealers may have carried them at that time, so I certainly wasn’t telling anyone to go anywhere to buy one. If you don’t think a Kickstop is special, you’re in the minority lol. The Kickstop has long been heralded by the industry as revolutionary since Lee created it. But I guess it needs to wipe your ass in order for it to be special?
@sofakingphat8087Ай бұрын
@ it’s a gimmick. as far as getting paid for commercials, you cannot deny that commercials play while you are attempting to entertain us. The gimmick is nothing new, the creator of this knife lightly upgraded it so he could sell more. You can’t deny that. Just not that special and it got a few of us to buy the next version. KZbin is not what it used to be, it’s a commercial platform now. Everyone in this business is commercializing products. seems like you may be a little bit of a narcissist if you can’t take a little bit of criticism without blowing your top. seems like a lot of these knives with this mechanism are still in stores and many of them are available on the secondary market. People must not be that happy with them. I know, Knife manufactures need to come out with new things so we are enthralled with new products. i’ll give you another example of some thing that is a gimmick, natural, clear, or Ultom. I guess it’s OK if you like the golden shower look.
@JimSkeltonKnivesАй бұрын
@ nope, there’s a difference between criticism and calling someone a shill. One is a helpful observation, the other is an insult. So stop clutching your pearls acting shocked that someone didn’t appreciate being openly insulted then fired back. And I don’t pick any ads that you see. Thats KZbin, you do know that, right? They pick the ads, they play the ads, they get paid for the ads. As a creator I get revenue share from the ads, sure. It averages about to be about 10 cents for every dozen or so views. So thanks for helping me pay off my yacht. And since the Kickstop is only a minor addition to an already wildly popular knife, and it bores you so badly, please enlighten us all with your knifemaker design skills and tell us what feature would have added real wow factor to the knife? I’m not asking you to make something better, if you could, you would have your real name next to your comments and we would all have bowed before you, because we would have known who you were, you fucking legend, and I’m not even asking you to sketch out a design. Just tell us something that would have been more impressive than a flipper tab that disappears when the blade is deployed and tucks itself in behind the lock. Unassisted in any way. I’m all ears, and I’m ready to be amazed. And yes they’re still available because Ramon has released numerous runs of them through Reate. They’ve likely sold thousands of them by now. I don’t see your point here. And they are definitely trade-bait on the secondary. They pull good prices and good trades. I do agree with you on Ultem though. I said it when it was first used on a knife, I hate it and it looks like pisswater plastic. But that will come and go like many other things have before.
@sofakingphat8087Ай бұрын
A few things I had to change to make it somewhat appealing, just like you did. The only thing is, I didn’t have to send my Knife out to get it customized. Those are some extremely flat baron titanium scales. They need color. What’s up with that skull clip, at least he gave us a normal clip to go with it. I like the thumb studs on the old version. He took away the only thing that made the old version worth a shit. here’s another piece that plays into your narcissism, you couldn’t take any criticism or if anyone had any upgrades for that Knife you would reject them because you are the great Almighty gem Skelton and you know all. you have the only opinion that matters. by the way, maybe I am an up-and-coming Knife maker and you should be more supportive of up-and-coming designers. You can be critical of course however you’re kind of an asshole for shooting people down without even seeing their products. Hell I don’t have all the connections you do, I just have a forge in my backyard. I had to build it myself, which is more than many other people can do. I’m a self-made person and I never had anything given to me. Like you, I have many irons in the fire I can give you that much credit. you put me down to make yourself feel bigger, common for narcissist.
@JimSkeltonKnivesАй бұрын
@ you make a lot of wild assumptions for a complete stranger. Also: you’re using an anonymous name on the internet dude, no clue who you are, or that you’re trying to be a knifemaker. It’s not like you offered that information. So sure, I was shooting down your dream because I’m an asshole. A psychic asshole that reads minds. I spend more energy supporting other knifemakers & designers than I do on my own business, expecting nothing in return, so you’re barking up the wrong tree. So anyway, back to the topic: you think he needed to add some color choices because THAT is more innovative and exciting than adding the Lee Williams Kickstop. So, you’re ignoring the g10 versions he offered? And what, anodizing the titanium frame is more exciting than a Kickstop? I suppose when Chevy went 10+ years between Corvette redesigns and only offering new body colors, you were dancing from excitement like your pants were itching. As to the clip, what’s up with that you ask? It’s Ramon’s Maker’s Mark. His logo. His signature. I’m sure he’s not too bothered that some people don’t like it. But he definitely did take the criticism into consideration and began placing the plain clips in the package. And people still find a reason to complain. That takes balls. Funny, you keep calling me narcissistic, yet until this sentence, I haven’t talked about myself, my opinions, or my work at all. You have. Obsessively. Which is worrisome.

“Horrible” isn’t an honest representation. For people who don’t know how to sharpen very well, it will be problematic, sure. And the clip would LOOK better blond-screwed, yes… however, the general buying public won’t know how to completely disassemble the knife in order to access hidden screws to change the clip if they don’t like skulls.
