My last comment got cut off. But anyway the guy who brought Kayo to the market was a chief engineer for Honda for over 10 years. So yeah I don’t think quality will be an issue. I own a Kayo and an Apollo. Both are great bikes and I love them.

KTM will be better in about every way. The real question is, will it be 100% better? No, no way. It'll come down to your user experience and what you need or like. Lots of people buy BMW's to drive to work because of the experience, even though the Honda Civic does the same task.

Yeah right? Yes, I would agree with you that the KTM should be a "better machine" all the way around... but how much better is the question. Is it 90% as good as the KTM? (my mind would be blown)... or is it 75% as capable as the KTM and most riders would not really know or feel the difference due to their skill levels and the level of "push or drive" the lay down on the bike... or is it 50% of the KTM and therefore is not easy to ride or breaks down a lot or just isn't capable enough to keep up with the other riders... That is really what I want to get out of it. We shall see!

The KTM is beautiful! The Kayo is also very well built. Kayo engine is a Yamaha DT230 clone, not 250cc displacement. I believe that everybody will be impressed with the Kayo. Fast Ace has been around a VERY long time. Technology is catching up with all the other manufacturer's. Kind of like Snap-On and the new Icon brand from Harbor Freight. You pay for the Snap-On name, but they both turn fasteners. The Kayo and the GPX Moto brand out of Utah have the same 2 Stroke bike you have right there. The GPX has a few upgrades, but same bike. The GPX is pretty proven by now. A very solid bike. A lot of folks have to understand that 300cc bikes made by Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha are not made in Japan. The Hondas are made in Brazil. The Honda Teail 125 is made in I believe Thailand. Kawasaki 300cc and under Indonesia. Yamaha (TTR 230) are also made in Brazil. Kayo has been in business since I think 2003, just new to the states. I hope they do well at the dealerships. I know I want one and plan to purchase in the next few weeks. The models I'm looking at are the Kayo K6-EFI, the K4 250 air cooled, and the one you are representing in this video. I just subscribed! Can't wait for the fun to begin. Thumbs up for taking the time to create the content. For me, I don't know how people do it. What I mean is how do you pay $10K to $12K for a dirt bike to play on regardless where it's made, or who makes it. One last thing... that Kayo is NOT your typical chinese quality that people make fun of.
@manybikes
@manybikes 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, looking at the build quality of the Kayo I knew it was NOT a typical Chinese manufacturer as it is really well put together. As for the motor, the casting shows a 249cc on the side of it but it sure does look a LOT like the DT230 motor! Another odd thing is the collector pipe. It looks like the typical bend of a modern 125 NOT a 250 or a 300! How will this change the way the power is put to the ground? This will be interesting, that is for sure!

Kyle i picked up the 250 EFI in August. AFTER seeing it in person, was blown away by the quality. Dealer let me test ride it. These {and GPX, almost same bikes} are the best trail bikes out there. The DOHC Nc250 motor has crazy torque for a low maintenance 250f, honestly as much as my yz250fx. Its super linear power all the way, and over revs great. Its 30hp to the rear wheel, and it TRACTORS. Idles up hill in second gear and hard to stall. Best part is its bullet proof, it is mass produced worldwide. The Fast Ace suspension initially pissed me off being so stiff, but after talking to a few people I run the compression all the way soft, and the rebound hard and it works really good. It prefers faster riding. Im 210lbs dry BTW. KTM WP suspension fits these if u dont like it. The EFI model has enduro orientated 18" tire and steel sprocket, if u swap to a lighter tire and aluminum sprocket the motor screams. I was going to buy a '21 WR250F, Im so glad i didnt for $10k OTD. The only negative with these bikes are of course they are heavier than advertised, but they feel light when riding. And the forks use steel components, u feel the heft {hard to wheelie, dives a bit off jumps} Bonus to that is handles and steers amazing, and I can run more sag than usual so it hooks up + steers better than any dirt bike I ever rode. Doesnt loop climbing technical stuff. This bike is the perfect middle ground between my KLX250 and YX250FX.

Yes, it has a different bend for sure... I have been told it was done that way to make it mild at first twist of the throttle then hit hard for the mid range and then taper off at the top. Kyle, Next week I'm going over my K6-EFI bike with a fine tooth comb with a torque wrench, lock tight, visual inspection, chain adjustment, etc. So far I'm blown away by the quality of Kayo. I mean WOW! I would lean toward saying right at Japanese quality, if not really, really close. especially the higher end bikes the the KT250, K6-EFI, K6R. That new DOHC 4 valve Zongshen engine in the K6-EFI, and K6-R is phenomenal from what I've been reading and gathering info on. It's been around for a while. A 300cc kit is also available. The engine model is Zongshen NC250 177. Based upon a Honda CB250. I'm sure you know all this stuff already. Just reiterating it. I want to ride, but need to check off a few things on my honey do list first. I have a question... What skid plate fits the K6 bike? Being a KTM clone, What year and model KTM skid plate, factory, or after market fits? Please let me know. I'm in a holding pattern to find out. Thanks again for creating your content. One other thing... I have two local dealers that are going to be Kayo dealers. One is a KTM dealer (that should be interesting). They don't get the Kayo bikes and quads in stock for a few about a month according to my last weeks e-mails. I'm dying to see that KT250 being put through its paces! That servo controlled exhaust power valve will make that bike tractor over and through anything. I want both bikes! It was a hard to decide which one to get first.

Yeah, pretty sweet machines. I am unsure which skid fits the K6, will have to test fit a few here at the shop to find out / confirm. I agree with you on the quality of the bikes, pretty dialed. I am super excited to get the KT250 out into the wild. 1st issue... it does not have a brake switch and the rear brake maser is different than the KTM and the Sicass kit will not bolt on... the rear light is just running and i need a brake to ride it on the street here for my commute ;) Last bug... then we should be golden.

I want to add another thing or two. I'm glad that Kayo is entering the market place IN DEALERSHIPS. That way folks can compare side by side. Parts availability will get better much faster. What the average consumer like myself get tired of seeing is the same old bike that is 30+ year old technology with a higher price tag every year, in exchange for "bold new graphics" and different colored plastics. Look at the Yamaha TTR 230 for example... A great little trail bike, but for $5500??? It still has a DRUM rear brake, crap rear suspension, and look at the front forks. Those are from the 70's/early 80's. Non-adjustable anything. Great bike for $2500. One last thing... Great info from one of our customers Glenn R: I've got a 2016 K6 with the SOHC engine. I installed the 300cc big-bore kit. It'll hit 85 mph on the street and will run 70-75mph all day, well as long as your butt can endure the hard seat. I finally ordered a Seat Concepts seat to cure that issue. I'm not sure if the new K6 is the same as mine, but I installed an Acerbis 4.1 gallon tank which was made for a KTM. If the new plastics are the same design as mine you can install KTM tanks, seats, and body parts on the K6. I think you can swap the Fast Ace forks with WP forks too, but I'm not 100% sure.

Well... the Kayo factory used to manufacture the SSR from what I have been told. SSR does not have a 2-Stroke but the 4 stroke is $4k. The GPX 250 2-Stroke is $5600 so $400 more than the Kayo. Pretty interesting.

You are saying how the suspension feels better on the KTM than it does the Kayo, but you can't go by that, because they could be adjusted different, and the Kayo suspension is adjustable front and rear, so adjust it and then try it.
@manybikes
@manybikes 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, for sure, Suspension is all adjustable. I was giving a "fit and finish feel" ... how can I express it... like when you used to get into a 1980's Japanese car and it sounded like a tin can when closing the door vs. the quiet smooth closing of a modern car door. The suspension on the KTM was smoother and more free flowing without feeling drag. Is that a better description?

This video series is going to be awesome! I wish your dealership was closer. I'll say this... I started looking for a new motorcycle about two years ago. I was looking for a dirt bike, but if it came set up as a dual sport, that would be fine also. Thats when I saw my first GPX Moto TSE250-R two sroke. I was impressed with the quality! Everybody knows how the motorcycle market is right now due to supply issues, etc. Finding a decent, well cared for used bike at a reasonable price is a complete joke. To shorten this babbling up, I was looking at the Yamaha TTR 230 for a trail bike with a msrp of $5400 + dealer fees. I was also looking at, and was ready to pull the trigger on to a GPX Moto FSE250E $4400 +$400 shipping for a total of $4800. I kept researching to see what else was out there, and found Kayo, which is available only through dealers. I was looking at the K4 250 air cooled for a OTD price of $3400, the KT250-R OTD price$5600'ish, and the K6250 EFI with and OTD price of $4600. All of these bikes are incredible, but I didn't want to purchase something that I had to throw upgrades at to keep me happy, so that left out the Yamaha TTR 230. It still has a drum brake and non-adjustable suspension. Drum brake... seriously? I chose the K6-EFI, and we'll see how it goes. It was $1200 less expensive than the GPX Moto FSE250-E I initial chose, and fuel injected, plus WAY better suspension. It also has everything already upgraded. It does NOT come with a skid plate, so that's a negative. I believe the KT250-R will be next for me. We'll see. I would like to see FMF start making pipes for these bikes. Especially the KT250-R.

the Chinese have been making engines for the Japanese firms for many years now, SKF bearings are made in China, their production methods and lower wages will mean you will see more Chinese machines in the future, as for overall quality, the Chinese seem to have one fault, they get just about everything right then use something that is really crap to save a small amount of money, imagine if this bike had an extra $2000 spent on it during manufacture, so it would cost $7000, still £3000 less than the KTM.

Kyle, I love your reviews and putting the time here. Just being honest and transparent....you seem to sway to whatever the response is. This hard core statement of agreeing to typical garbage China product and boycott etc etc etc. In other statements you are agreeing this build feels much better than what you would expect and taking the history of the build and being around since 2003, hearing folks speak of the quality and no issues after a few years etc. So much around this. For many people, they are not hardcore mx riders. There is no right answer or decision here, there are many variables. But I think it is a safe statement to say for the money, 1/2 the cost of the better KTM and Japanese bikes, the Kayo K6 R/EFI are a decent bike for the money for how most people will use this bike. It is a great option for people wanting to get into dirt bike riding for a fraction of the cost of the competitors. The current Kayo K6 EFI is hard to go wrong for the money in my opinion. It really matters how people manage the bike and take care of it. Is it for hardcore KTM mx enthusiasts....No. It's not about not being able to afford a KTM, it's about not needing to spend twice the amount of money for having fun on the trails. And that is backed by proving this bike is more than the typical crap China pumps out. All good. Thanks for the discussion board Kyle!
