I've removed the glass for my 97 Civic and cleaned the housing plate. I'm apprehensive because there is kind of a lip the mirror fits into and I don't want to break the replacement. I guess I'll just go for it!

+EvonDee Hey there. Yes, most of them have a bit of a lip. I have seen generic replacement glass pieces that don't account for a "super snug" fit. From what I gather, as long as you center and use plenty adhesive you will be just fine....and it lasts! I understand the apprehensiveness but in DIY you do just "go for it." I definitely like your style!!!! Let me know how it turns out!

Oh, I definitely know that feeling. I take it that it's not flush? Maybe the adhesive is too thick? Or maybe the outside edge doesn't fit perfectly? Either way that's what stinks about some of the aftermarket replacements. This is just a super cheap fix; not for us perfectionists. You know, I actually replaced my whole mirror assembly because of what you mentioned. I am a perfectionist too. It can be a curse, I tell you!!! I actually found out later after making this vid that you can purchase the whole mirror assembly almost as cheap as fooling with just the plate glass. Crazy, I know.

To follow up, you can buy a complete replacement set of mirrors for under $50. Check out "the bay" and search this: New Set of 2 Mirrors Left & Right Side Power F150 Truck F250 LH RH F-150 Pair. You can search around and find the correct color match. I think there is chrome, black, and a few others. I lucked out with the black ones. They fit and matched great and were good quality. I used Car Parts Wholesale for my order. I am not affiliated with them but have used them many times in the past and have nothing but good things to say about them. I try my best to offer low cost solutions but in this situation $50 was a small price to pay.

Hi, how's it going? I am not 100% sure. I think if you were to break the glass out there is the LED built into the plastic backer plate. Then, you just replace the glass with the specific "replacement side mirror with signal." So to answer your question more or less, the answer is maybe. Check out the glass replacements available online. That may help more than me in this situation.

If you lucky you might find an original glass mirror at a junk yard for next to nothing. I did for a 99 Monte Carlo.
