The Dodo has just became like Discovery/Animal Planet and usually don't post full videos anymore, just a small ad to drive people to subscribe to an outdated cable service instead to see the "rest" of the video. It's REALLY annoying, I cut that cord years ago and I'm never going back to cable tv.

Kawy Thowy Any video of theirs with "Dodo Heroes" in the title shouldn't be expected to have a finished ending. These vids are like promos/teasers for episodes of their new show coming up. I wish they finished it, too, but then there wouldn't be much use in watching the episode when they air it on TV and such.

Look at how excited that chimp is to see people. Even after being in a research lab. Some upper management slime made the decision to abandon that chimp, clearly the researchers loved on him and he didn't think too badly of them. I'm glad real good people found him and tried to find him a friend.

I always love watching these videos. I get so emotional. But I also always felt like I should do something as well to help animals. In fact, just a couple of days ago, I found a little surprise on my way to clock in at work. Just outside of the building to my job, I heard a kitten crying and saw a tail from in between some boxes. This is at a Lowe's and everyone else just walked by. But when I tried to call the kitten out, she just came running towards me and allowed me to pick her up and pet her. While thinking of what I should do, I set her back down but the kitten only rubbed herself against my leg. So I took her inside to try to figure out what to do and although someone said that he knew someone who might take her in, that person already had four cats. I knew that I would just keep worrying about her so I took her home straight away where my brother watched her until I got off of work. Come to find out, she is a big sweetheart; whenever I'm away and my brother sleeps, she just lays on his chest but when I'm home and even when he's there, she just loves to stay near my head. She even loves to watch what I watch and eat what I eat (well, wants to, anyway). It's funny because I always thought that I wanted to get a bird, dog or even a cat. It was fate. And I'm so glad that she chose me and that I decided to take her home. I decided to name her Ripley. I always loved animals and told myself that I wished I had the chance to help animals like these great people you see in these videos. So it may not be much, but it certainly is a good start. So this is what happened and why we never saw the Meeting looks like Ponso attacked and tried to kill Nikla .From their facebook : Only 7 days until Animal Planet series will featured Estelle Raballand ´s past work for Les Amis de Ponso with Ponso in Dodo Heroes. Time has come to remember and explain what happened in the end of 2017, when the media crew followed Estelle Raballand in Grand Lahou to film her work with Ponso. We really need to share this details with you, before some of you will probably asking about a new integration after watching Animal Planet series « Dodo Heroes » about Ponso. Introducing Nikla to Ponso was supposed to be a new life for both Ponso and Nikla, but it turned into drama. The report was filmed in Grand Lahou during Nikla ´s integration in the end of 2017. As you Know, our ngo was working with Estelle Raballand who was also working on creating a sanctuary in Ivory Coast. (Ivory Coast need a sanctuary for confiscated, orphaned chimpanzees that are victims of the illegal wildlife trafficking trade). At this time, Estelle was working on Nikla’s integration. Unfortunately, the processus failed and Nikla was seriously injured but saved by Germain at his own risk : he rushed with the boat to let her go. This was terrible and dangerous for everyone. After that, Germain and Ponso have taken time to regain confidence. Les Amis de Ponso deplored the serious effects of this failure, for Nikla who was beaten, and for Germain and Ponso. We were all very worried about their relationship because Ponso was very stressed and showed some signs of mistrust against Germain. This situation was very sad for both Germain and Ponso and their so special bond. Now, the daily life on the island has returned to normal, far from medias, letting Ponso Germain and Junior in their precious intimacy. Even if Ponso is still alone on his Island, Ponso is happy with his two keepers. As already said, introducing chimpanzees to each other isn’t a clear science. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Each introduction is different and it depends on the chimpanzee individual history and personality. In this case, according Estelle Raballand’s report on Nikla’s integration, Ponso has showed us very clearly that he likes his life as it is. He doesn’t want to share his island or his keepers attention with another chimpanzee. Considering his age, and the terrible way things turned when Estelle tried to introduce Nikla last year, and except for health reasons, Ponso has his own sanctuary already with the freedom he deserves and will not be moved from his territory. After this dramatic event, Ponso has come back to his old self: full of laughter, play and tenderness with his too keepers on his territory. He doesn’t feel lonely with Germain and Junior’s love.

Sadly, Ponso died on his island on March 2, 2024, apparently from a heart attack, he was about 50 years old. A heartfelt thank you to Germain Junior Alexandra and to all those who helped him, loved him and did not make him feel alone. Rest in peace Wonderful Ponso, I will never forget you

The important thing is that he received affection, companionship and care from Germain and the association that took care of him. He's had that place to himself for a long time and he loves the attention and friendship of that red haired researcher woman and the the two local men who visit him every day. Either he didn't like any chimp intruder or he just didn't like the one they brought. At any rate, chimps and gorillas just don't mate with any member of their species of the opposite sex. Maybe he would have been more accepting of another "old man" chimp for a friend to sit around with and while away the hours.

4th of may 2020. I checked today with chimpanzee rescue about what happened. This was their : it was disastrous... Ponso wounded Nikla pretty bad. Ponso lost trust in his human friend, got built up slowly and all seems well now. Sadly Ponso is still alone and Nikla went back to the horrid zoo in Abidjan. Nikla is ok physically but in Abidjan’s zoo prison. Ponso is getting a lot of love and care thanks to @sosponso thank goodness.
