I, sister, Mum & Dad plus some extended family were "holed up" in Chongqing during WW2. My dad worked for the Bank of China of back then (not the same as its known today in the West) which was the bank closely associated with Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek who was notionally fighting the Japanese but actually was fighting against Mao but that's a huge separate other story. Chongqing being in the deep west in China made it a suitable refuge for Chiang to be hard to get at by the Japanese. The spot where he was actually located was obscure; I know because when there was a Japanese bombing raid on Chongqing we'd retreat to a cave in the mountain side where we stayed. I snuck out to the entrance of the cave once and saw the planes buzzing the city some distance away; they never flew over where we were which was only a few km away where Chiang would've been if he was in Chongqing. /1

@SLAVAUKRAINI-cb5vt hello bot, you are a very good example for a gullible person who believes everything someone says on KZbin. 5 minutes of research and you would learn that the group mainly consists not of tourists but of former Chinese citizens who became years ago British citizenship. The Chinese Internet makes by the way fun about these entitled Karens, especially about Mr. "Don't touch her". Background was that they also wanted to use the piano and tried to scare him away. It doesn't work. For you this all might be too much information as you online looking for reasons to hate people because of from they coming from.

Chongqing was very important during the war of Japanese resistance because it was so mountainous it was difficult to attack by land. The nationalist government of Chiang kai-Shek retreated to run their operations from Chongqing while Mao's communist faction were based in Yan'an. I played General "Vinegar Joe" Stilwell in a TV series about that period, specifically dealing with the way the nationalists and the communists kept in touch at that time, mostly via the efforts of Zhou Enlai as go-between. We filmed in a house which had belonged to Song Meiling and where she had lived with Chiang kai-Shek. The house was in a large park and still very much as it had been when they lived there. Later when I was back in Chongqing on another project I went to visit Joseph Stilwell's house which is now a museum. It was temporarily closed for some repairs. but when I told them I had played Stilwell they were very friendly and gave me a guided tour. That was 7 years ago so it's probably re-opened by now. The series is called "周恩来在重庆" and I did find it on KZbin but I don't think there are any subtitles. I watched it and thought it was brilliant, though it's educational rather than entertaining so it might not suit a western audience.

@SLAVAUKRAINI-cb5vt Hello Russian bot (pretending bring Ukrainian), you are a very good example for a gullible person who believes everything someone says on KZbin.

Great video! I lived in LongChang, Sichuan (about 2 hours west, by bus) in the early 2000's, and travelled to ChongQing a lot. I went back to visit last year. It was AMAZING to see how much it changed. This video is great, but you really have to see it for yourself. It's famous for being VERY hilly, so the fact that such a large and modern city is there is a feat of engineering.

@SLAVAUKRAINI-cb5vt You got it backward. The chinese tourist program was filming a pre chinese new year vid ehere they do greeting from other countries. That pidoist harras them and when they do not want to be film on his 2million sub channel as it will spoil the surprise, the pedoist then accuse them of censorship. Watch the non edited vid, he approaching the chinese group asking if they were japanses, then he ask is that commie flag. He is a racist and he knew exactly what he was doing. If he did the same to jews, black, mexicans, gays he would be cancelled by now

Not overlooking Chongqing's recent historical role as the provisional government of ROC and the South Korean provisional government, it is crucial for people to recognize the significance of Chongqing and China in defending against invaders. It's disheartening for those who still perceive China as an adversary.

Dude, that was a really awesome vlog. I'm second gen Chinese-American here in Cali. I tell ya, wish I had 1/3 of your ability to speak Mandarin (even though my Mom & Pop are from Hong Kong & Canton, respectively, where Cantonese is spoken - at least in Guangzhou). Your Mandarin is terrific; being an "ABC (American Born Chinese) or Twinkie (yellow on the outside, white on the inside...😂), I don't speak a lick of my ethnic tongue. Needless to say, I'm green with jealousy over your ability to speak Chinese - hah! Well, I have an excuse though, my Dad came right after the war (i.e., World War 2) in '49. Needless to say, the yellow man faced much of the same racism as the other black & brown races at the time. At the time, having any sort of Chinese accent was very bad, as my Pop experienced, therefore, he insured his children wpuld have absolutely no such problems. As a indicator of the time, think about the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and I believe the Fair Housing Act in 1965 (I think...) passed to fight racism against yellow, brown & our black brothers). Then, is not anything like it is now. Back then, not having an English name automatically got you the label of an FOB, Ch#nk, Ch#naman, Sl#nt and other names. I'm glad societal norms have changed, but with Dipsh#t Donny (ie, Trump) and that other old idiot Biden, they push the old but still effective bullsh#t of the Yellow Scare, and anti-Chinese sentiment. People that I've never met now call me a "Chink" to my face now. Hadn't had that experience since I was in 3rd grade. Now, I carry to protect myself against those who I don't even know, whe want to bash my head in. Call me a "Rooftop Korean," I'll take that ad a compliment. 2A rights guaranteed by the Constitution applies to everyone you know. Anyways Andy, keep up the good work, be careful, and keep on making great vlogs. Have a prosperous & a Happy New Year!
