I am so sorry for your lose. There is a video of Chris, the director and the actor talking about this video. Chris was being pressured by his label to make a video but he wanted the video to have meaning. Mental health is not given the attention it deserves so props to Chris for using his talent as a platform to shine a light on this issue.

I'm sorry this one caught you by surprise, like a kick in the gut, I'm sure. I lost my little brother when he was 17. I don't usually watch people react to this one, but I was drawn to your reaction. I can't say how bad I feel for you and your family. I really respect you for sharing this and I wish I could give you a big hug. Blessings to you from Tennessee.

I can’t give you words big enough to express how sorry I am for your loss. When I was 17 one of my oldest friends committed suicide. Our parents were great friends and we literally grew up friends from year 1. He had not yet turned 17. I would like to convey to you that showing your truly vulnerable, letting go of not wanting people to see how human you truly are bc they(we) don’t truly know you. That is a trait I wish so many people would show. I don’t think that suicide rates would be as high. I wished I could have given you a big ole hug. First time I saw this video I was blown away. Chris did this in an effort to raise awareness of suicide. He puts up a website for people to reach out to. I really give him big thumbs up for this. Sending much love & hugs from North Carolina, USA.

My husband is Bipolar. In 2006 our daughter died from Cancer. For 3 years I expected to wake up and find my husband had ended his pain and grief. We worked through it but it took more than 3 years before he improved. It was a very bad time but we survived it.

I’m so sorry to hear about your loss. In 1992, I was 13 years old, and went to visit my dad on Father’s Day. I found him in the bathtub with self inflicted cuts on his wrists. I can’t say I feel your exact pain, but I do know the suffering that suicide leaves in its wake. It’s so important that those feeling this way allow their loved ones to be their shelter....let those who care for them do just that. Blessings to you, and anyone who is suffering.

Bless your heart! 😢 I’m sooo sorry for your loss! I know it’s something you’ll struggle to deal with for the rest of your life and I really hate that for you! If it can offer any comfort from someone who has struggled with depression and many, many years ago attempted the same thing repeatedly please understand that it had nothing to do with you or how much he loved you! When you’re in the midst of that kind of depression your mind convinces you that everyone you love will be better off without your presence and you believe it. I had 3 children under the age of 7 and no serious issues in my life to trigger those thoughts and beliefs, just an inherited depressive illness that my doctor and I hadn’t yet found the proper medication for treating it although we had been trying for almost 6 months at that point. In hindsight and in a mentally healthy state I can look back and see how warped and wrong those thoughts were but at that moment I really couldn’t! I was fortunate and blessed that my best friend called me and although I don’t remember it at all I spoke with her and she got me to admit what I had done. From 400 miles away she managed to get a call to 9-1-1 and police came to my home, busted in the door and had me in an ambulance en route to the hospital in only minutes which were crucial at that point. I spent some time in an in-treatment psychiatric ward finally getting the proper medication and dosage for my depression and anxiety. My children are now adults, (my oldest child just turned 30 last month), and I no longer have to take medication continuously although I’m always aware that my condition can flare up and become debilitating at any time and quickly so at the first sign I begin taking my anti-depressants again and monitor my mental health closely for several months along with the assistance of my family to ensure that I am responding well and appropriately. I was lucky and I am sooo thankful that I was able to finish raising my children and can now enjoy the blessings of my grandchildren. I wish your brother had gotten the same opportunity! Unfortunately too many people lose their lives before help can reach them. I believe part of the reason is because people don’t talk openly about it and there’s such a stigma attached to mental illness. People who don’t have any personal experience with it often believe that it’s all a sign of being “crazy”, not understanding the physiological causes usually associated with depression and that it is treatable and people who are effectively treated appear as “normal”, high-functioning, reasonable, intelligent and healthy as they are. The only difference might be that depression often strikes people who are highly intelligent and emotionally sensitive overall, making them both more vulnerable to the illness but also resistant to seek help because they are sooo concerned about the judgement of others and they feel that condemnation both more personally and stronger than the average person might...or so I have been told by many specialists within the mental health field.

Thank you for sharing. I lost my younger brother in 1989 from what I consider a form of suicide. Alcohol and drugs. That song was very unexpected. We all go on but there will always be a hole in your heart. I was staying with my grandmother. It was early morning so I was still in bed just waking up and I heard her say no God no. My stepfather came to my room and I knew before he said anything I knew what had happened...

Yeah, my first time hearing/watching this song/video I was floored. Wasn't expecting the content to be so heavy but it certainly struck a chord. I don't think there's a person alive that hasn't survived a family member or friend that has taken their own life. Chris using this song to shed light on the subject with this video makes me love him even more. I couldn't speak for several minutes after watching so thank you for pushing through enough to share your personal story.

I was 41 in 2012 when my brother committed suicide. A year after I lost a brother to a heart attack. In 2015, lost a sister to cancer. 2016 I lost my nephew to respiratory failure. 2018 lost another sister to cancer. Death is never understood no matter the circumstance but the suicide is the one that haunts me the most. The questions and roller coaster of emotions never go away, they just simply lie dormant sometimes until something triggers them. Prayers to you.

So sorry for your loss. For me it was my husband who died tragically...i understand. The song put me to tears .Chris is just one hell of a lyricist. Cuts through the bull and speaks to the heart. I suggest to listen to Sometimes I cry. I was wrong and Tennessee whiskey. I could go on and on with his song playlist.Daddy don't pray anymore is another heart string puller. He started by playing blue grass. Wow. He is so full of soul, more blues but he identifies strongly with country. He could sing the alphabet and do it awesomely. He's worth the listen.

Precious boy, I'm so sorry for your loss. No one should have to bury a child or a sibling - - - that kind of void is never filled. You're absolutely right - - - If you need to talk to someone, reach out. And my 2-cents worth: Be a good listener. Sometimes others just need someone to be here . . . to be heard, not have life solutions made for them . . . just listen and be empathetic.

So many things come to mind and my heart is just broken for your loss. He was so young. When I was an active Nurse, I was a Vietnam Vet. Counselor and they choose suicide too often to stop the images and the pain that they can not express. The thing that I said to the survivors is, that you did not know and you could not have stopped them. You are not to blame. They aren't either. It was a desperate attempt to stop the pain. God be with you and your family. I pray that you will find moments of peace.
