You don't wavedash for speed, you wavedash to realign with your opponent if they try to step you. Having a fast wavedash is absolutely advantageous.

For p2 KBD, you can use the second position wavedash tech you outline in your p1 wavedash section. HOWEVER this is a bit of a dirty backdash, results are the same but the inputs are not strict and this will not work for backsway characters like Paul and Bryan, you'll just get backsway. I'm a dirty Feng main though so it works for me

I think the way I KBD is easier. For anyone interested try this on P1 (SOCD method and should work on sway characters): Hold left/back. Double tap right/forward. Tap down. Reapeat by double tapping right/forward again and then tap down. You do not let go of left/back during any of this.
@Inso_yuugen
@Inso_yuugen 4 ай бұрын
Additional note: You can skip double tap forward with negative edge. Example: Hold back -> tap forward and release. Imagine the release is the input. This will give you an instant backash and from there you just tap down then forward ONCE and down again to repeat. Again you never let go of back

On hitbox, if you "uninvert" the up and down buttons, meaning if you map D-Pad down to the button that you can hit with either thumb, the SOCD backdash becomes extremely simple on both sides, because you can do the backdash cancel by tapping the D-Pad down button with your right thumb. (It might make your 2P wavedash method easier too.) Same idea on keyboard, map D-Pad down to the space bar, so you can hit it with either thumb.

I started playing on a HORI arcade stick, but I wasn't so good with it, and I found it annoying that the arcade stick was so big and heavy to take with me when playing at friends' places. Then I switched to the PS5 pad, and I was much better with it. Now I'm considering whether to buy a hitbox, as I believe it's smaller than my HORI arcade stick, and I've heard you can play very well with it. Could you perhaps tell me the advantages and disadvantages of the hitbox and PS5 controller, and what you would personally recommend? Best regards.

This is very controller specific (although technically possible on any button box with a free right hand button running the GP2040-CE firmware), but if you assign pin 18 on your huate42 m16 or t16 to DDI left instead of L3, you can then use basically the same technique for p2 side as p1 side since you can now access the left direction with your right middle finger, no? An alternative would likely be PIN 19 (default RS) if you find that easier to reach. I had to update to firmware version v0.7.7 in order to do this as it wasn't clear how to configure this in the v0.7.5 UI. TLDR, if you can assign a free button reachable by your right index or middle finger to 'left', then you could probably make p2 side execution nearly as easy as p1.

@rahzaelfoe3288
@rahzaelfoe3288 4 ай бұрын
@@Chris_F I don't. I think in theory if the crossup is legal for that event (which is often not clear in and of itself), DDI should also be legal. The DDI button would be mapped to the analog stick, just like the crossup, so would technically be a different bind and nothing you couldn't theoretically do on a regular pad controller.
@rahzaelfoe3288
@rahzaelfoe3288 4 ай бұрын
@@Chris_F Also, if you're worried about the legality of this, you likely also want to rebind one of your ups to DDI up or something else entirely as by default it comes with 2 up buttons.

I wouldn’t worry about the last hit of Bryan’s string too much, it’s just an execution check. If you want to get it you’ll need perfect timing on every single backdash. Not too slow, not too fast. Try he timing varies by character

@Chris_F

It depends on the controller. For the actual hitbox brand, yes, up in on the bottom. For controllers like haute42 (which I’m using in this video) the up button is on the bottom AND the top - you can use it WASD style. I switched from 10+ years of stick without too much issue. Any tips for people like me that quickly reach their limit of muscle memory with any techniques that need to be performed in less than 8 frames or so? I still can't wavedash in the original Melee because the inputs (and most importantly, the button releases) are too fast for me to perform with any degree of consistency.
@Chris_F
@Chris_F 5 ай бұрын
I would say to treat it like learning an instrument. If you can’t do it slow then you can’t do it fast. Take a few minutes each day to go slow and grind the muscle memory. Then *slowly* increase the speed over the course of a few days. If you still can’t get it then there might be a different issue. Try it out and let me know if it helps, and if not, I’ll try to think of something else for you!

@similaritiesendhere
@similaritiesendhere 4 ай бұрын
@@mosley3485 Tapping down for one frame in Tekken 8 isn't a crouch input (crouch cancelling). It's a sidestep input and it's been that way since T3. I just sent a video to my little bro of me holding back, pianoing d,f and getting micro-sidesteps towards the screen because I wasn't hitting the down button long enough to register a crouch and therefore not crouch cancelling. You can also accidentally hit forward before you fully release the down button if you aren't deliberate in your inputs. Visually confirming your crouches might not be optimal but, it's the starting point on which speed is built. It's similar to how you should learn regular wind god fist loooong before you start practicing electrics.
@Chris_F
@Chris_F 4 ай бұрын
@similaritiesendhere this is not correct. Holding back then going to down-back without returning to neutral first will give the crouch cancel needed for this input. If you’re retuning to neutral before pushing down then you’re not doing it correctly.

For some reason I always get hit by the last hit in Bryan’s string when doing your KBD drill. Any tips? Been stuck for 2 days now.
@Chris_F
@Chris_F 4 ай бұрын
It’s not *super* important to learn. It’s hard to say what’s wrong without seeing your inputs, but you’re either cancelling the backdash too fast or cancelling to slow. Also keep in mind that characters have different backdash distances so it might not be possible at all with your character. I’d say you’re more than OK if you’re getting hit by only the last hit of Bryan’s string.

Is KBD or wavedash any different for bryan. Im having trouble especially with the wavedash because bryan does that swooping movement as he goes foward killing my momentum.
@Chris_F

That’s not a wavedash, that’s a step unique to a few characters. Bryan cannot wavedash. KBD is the same for the whole cast if done with the proper input used in this video
