Not necessary using super glue. They dry in half a second.

If you lightly score, or scour, the inside surface of the arrow the glue will have something to bite into, and will help adhesion. Do the outside of the insert too.

this was the first thing i thought of. just a quick twist with a little 200 grit sandpaper will massively increase adhesion.

The other nice thing with the RIP TKO is that if you do want to go crazy on FOC, you can build an arrow with greater than 15% FOC without having to go super heavy becuase the GPI is the same when you jump from a 300 to a 250 spine.

I agree with everything except for the use of the outserts. I dislike them and have had multiple bent outserts cause arrow failure. Switched to hit inserts with Iron will titanium collars. Makes them rock solid! I’ve bent field tips and had no issue with the arrow, just replaced the tip and kept rolling.

Good stuff Chris. Two questions if I may: 1. Do you cut the shaft to length width the added length of the outsert in mind? 2. What diameter field point do you use with these shafts? Thank you

I think my next dozen might be Victory or Sirius brand in 5mm. I've been using Day Six (.204 5mm) and Easton long range (.166 4mm) for a few years now. The Day Six HD 300 spines are tough as nails, never broken one. Can't say the same about the Easton's. I hit a golf tee on my target and one broke in half. I'm finding the .166/4mm's are just more fragile for whatever that's worth.

I’ve heard it’s good practice to have your nock removed when gluing the insert so back pressure doesn’t push the inset out. What’s your thought on that? Is that more of a concern when using hot melt, and not necessarily if you’re using a quick setting super glue?
@HighDesertAdventurer
@HighDesertAdventurer Жыл бұрын
I've experienced HIT inserts being pushed out a bit due to an air lock effect with the nock in. I always remove the nock now when gluing the insert. Superglue and ironwill hot melt. Never had the issue with standard inserts.

I love your videos. I have learned a lot from you. I’m not trying to correct you. But when you talked about your ASD and trying to explain where your insert straitness comes from you can use the terms ID (inside diameter) and OD (outside diameter) I think that’ll help get your point across incase you do other video like this in the future. Keep doing what you do. GREAT content.

I disagree a little on one point. 😳 The ASD can help with accuracy and installation of insert because some inserts have some slop going in. I’m just starting the video and I’m sure you’ll touch on it but I definitely see differences when insert is installed and I use ASD a second time. Love your videos. I’ve an idea for a video and hope to produce my very first soon.

I run a slightly heavier arrow than most other guys. I run a 5mm Easton axis with a 25 or 50 grain outsert( can’t remember which one). Blazer vanes, nocturnal nocks and either a g5 dead meat or a rage hyperdermic no collar. Total arrow weight of that set up is around 488 grains. The reason it’s so heavy is due in part to me having a 31 inch arrow I think and 75 pound draw weight. All I can say is when I’m shootings it at the range those arrows are screaming down range. At 60 yards into a block target I’m still getting 12 inches of penetrations. Also went to a double pin sight from spot Hogg this year and loving the inline set up with the pins.
