I find it fitting that none of his work survives to this day, despite the sheer volume he allegedly wrote. As a theme of Stoicism is accepting many things are beyond your control.

Stoicism is to limit yourself from negative emotion. Not positive. Stoic philosophers believed you should doubt all pleasures, but their point was to find happiness and tranquility by mastering all emotions (mainly negative ones).

For some more context: figs were associated with the wealthy. Thats why he said it should it drink some pure wine which is also something the wealthy drank. Donkeys being dirty and associated with labor / people of the lower classes made this even funnier.

This video refers to a common method of attacking ancient scholars (of whatever belief) by ridiculing them; the 'evidence' is often drawn from the scholar's own writings and fancifully exaggerated. Cf. Aeschylus and the tortoise (if you're curious). If you really want to know more about Chrysippus (and Stoicism) go to: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrysippus
