Schlatt's earth theory has been proposed by many people and would mean space travel would be much cheaper, all we would have to do is strap a few huge engines, or some propulsion system to it, and make an artificial sun.

On like my 100th listen to this episode I am observing that the arguments Schlatt make for not wanting to be a part of Ted's zombie power scheme pretty much fits perfectly for industrialization itself. He doesn't want to get his hands dirty with the labor because there could be an accident. He doesn't want to put people to work to do it for him because doing that is "terrible", risking their skin. So what we're learning here is that if industrial society isn't already prepared for Scatt, he would rather take himself out than spend any amount of energy trying to do something constructive beyond a very non-committal amount of "playing" for some vague scientific purpose.
