I really thought I had to be working at 100+% on my mission every day, every second, or I was failing God. This is such a better perspective.
@FrostFyre0033 жыл бұрын
I had a very bad experience for my two years because the leadership pushing that same idea, brow-beating everyone who didnt show that 110% mentality. It has taken the better part of two decades to let the hurt go, and to be honest, I still harbor some resentment still. But, I know it was an example of what happens when you forget the Lord's way, and I at least consider it a blessing to know it.

My ADHD brain basically loves to min-max. If you don’t know what that means, basically I have a really hard time doing anything just the right amount. It’s always too much or too little, and it’s really hard for me to get anything just right. However, I know that it’s okay, because as long as I continue to try my best, the Lord can help me get through anything.

I relate to this!! I was undiagnosed for the longest time and was so frustrated when I kept making the same mistakes no matter how hard I tried. But the Lord always forgave me, and I was confused why He wasn’t more upset with me. Turns out He knew I had ADHD all along XD and that trying harder isn’t nearly as effective with ADHD as trying smarter

I have to try really hard to have balance in my life, because I have several mental disabilities, including autism, ocd, add/adhd, depression, anxiety, etc. It's very difficult for me to do things in wisdom and in order, but with the hope that comes from putting my trust in God, I will succeed. We all will have temporary failures, which is okay because it's part of His plan of salvation and exaltation, however He will give us the strength to get up and keep trying. Jesus Christ loves each of us so much, that He gave His life for us, which means that His grace will turn our best effort into success. We don't need to try 150 percent. Showing a lot of love for Him daily is good enough.

We are not required to run faster than we have strength. If we put our trust in the Lord and ask Him for help, He will guide our paths and inspire us to choose the best way to handle our tasks with the most joy and balance. He'll give us more strength to handle our burdens and even send others to give us assistance when needed. I'm so grateful that we have such divine assistance. We just need to do our best, keep our faith strong so we can hear Him when He gives us great advice and guidance.

This whole life experience was never really about the “doing”, but how the doing can change our “being”. The Jews in Jesus day got hung up on the “doing” and it became a stumbling block. We are no different today. Be still, be present in each moment, be mindful. Look inside for the change and growth and beauty that comes from the doing, otherwise all of the doing is pointless. God doesn’t care about your church attendance percentage or temple attendance stats or number of ministering visits. Did you just go through those motions, or did they go through you? Often the Why matters more than the What or the How. Be blessed and may harmony find you.

Wise counsel indeed. Difficult to do, but reasonable boundaries can be managed with flexibility.
@naturefleur2062 Жыл бұрын
Also, it’s hard to recognize your limitations and your own goal when you’re looking sideways, comparing yourself to another person. Burnout can also occur when a person pushes themselves well beyond what’s needful simply because they fear they don’t measure up to someone else’s standard. Looking to the Lord and honoring our own limits and accepting our own accomplishments on their own merit/value is one way to find true success and peace. Comparisons will keep a person ever reaching and never resting, always feeling insignificant or running hard to get the next perception of achievement in comparison to another person. Personally, the intrinsically rewarding life spent honoring God feels deeply satisfying in a way that achieving in comparison to others doesn’t provide for me.

Living life with a physical handicap has taught me to take life one step at a time. I'm not a failure if I'm stuck in bed writhing in pain for the afternoon. I'm not a failure if the dishes aren't done every night. I'm not a failure if it takes me a lot longer to do something than another person. All He asks is that we try, and try again tomorrow, and try again each day after that. Maybe we'll fail 10 times, but we haven't truly failed until we stop trying. As for personal goals, please be kind to yourself and others. Change and growth will not happen overnight. They are the product of consistent effort, and I've found that it's better to progress a mere inch every day than a whole foot once a month.

As a future missionary this is an awesome video! Even doing college in-between an early graduation and a mission I feel like I have to put in 100% of the effort to progress in my classes. This video reminded me of how we progress, line upon line, precept upon precept, here a little there a little, and God is always with us as we strive to be better. You do not need to go into the fields of life with 100% and leave with 0%, instead enter with determination and a goal, step by step, and take a break when you're felling low on energy, eat, exercise, do something. Thank you for this amazing video!

Hoping the culture catches up with the counsel asap! Last year at a family member's stake conference, it was taught over the pulpit that, "The Lord doesn't require us to be perfect, but he does require us to be exhausted." That kind of direct counsel in an official meeting is difficult for members to discount or ignore. The attitude that if you're not completely exhausted you're not a good member is still alive and well, but hopefully messages like this one will help.
@TheArtOfBeingStill3 жыл бұрын
Well said. Still a lot of nonsense flying around in meetings that was never taught by Christ. He took naps, got away on his own to be mindful, and told us to take no thought for the morrow. He sees us as human beings, not human doings. The Jews in his day got caught in all of the doing and it became a stumbling block to them. We are no different now. Be still, and know that he is God. His burden is “easy and light”.
@travisgriggs51513 жыл бұрын
Can't echo this enough. The "echos" of lionizing extreme sacrifice over the years, kind of run against this kind of measured council. Even the recent run of "hastening the work" kind of cuts agains the message here of "slow and steady wins the race".

I am a grandmother. Mom of 4 grown within the Church's values. Principles of truth are taught in the best way as a mom. But then you're in a position where you are not as influential. I am so overwhelmed by 13 grandchildren who are far from my own home state. I know I can do good things for my family and they're struggling with this experience of being in the middle of a Pandemic. I am grateful for the wisdom and order that the Doctrine and Covenants talks of. I believe that this was just the right thing for me today! It's great to talk to others about how I feel.
