My favorite (very subtle) amazing moment in this film is, when Kylo talks to the First Order leaders about there being a traitor, Hux must KNOW Kylo could read his thoughts, so he just blares the thought "KYLO'S HELMET LOOKS DUMB" to cover up his true thoughts to get Kylo to change the subject while still feeling in control. Brilliant.

My favorite is when Rey accidentally kills Leia. (shown at this time 16:46). It's quickly shown by Leia's hand immediately falling after the stab, but there's a lot of little things that add to the how, as well as Rey's arc in this movie. Leia had just made a mental connection with Ben, which is a difficult power that would drain her. Usually, such powers require the user to open their mind/heart/whatever to the other person, so it's quite possible that Leia would feel his pain in that moment. The pain would affect her body, and the forced disconnect it cause would harm her mind. Since she was already weak, so it'd be easy to see how this would kill her. This adds to Rey's arc, too. She's spent the whole movie so far worried about falling to the dark side. She then attacks someone out of anger with a Sith's lightsaber, and then feels the lifeforce of a close friend and mentor slip away from the very body she attacked. To her, that would literally fell like she had stabbed Leia directly, while using the dark side. This is literally her fear made real, which is why she runs after this moment.

@pancakes8670

When it comes to this movie and others like it, I have a very hard time relating to the reasons people have for liking it. Return of the Jedi is one of my favorite movies of all time, and this movie completely invalidates almost everything that happens in ROTJ... Most reasons I see for enjoying this movie, even in this review, seem to be just "turn your brain off and enjoy the pretty sounds", which I definitely can't relate to. I have seen people point out how J.J. is good with cinematography and Sound Design, but I personally need more than that? Any attempt to analyze the film further demonstrates how ridiculous it is that it even exists.
@nategreat0040
@nategreat0040 2 жыл бұрын
@@pancakes8670 Yeah I can see where you’re coming from. The newer trilogy didn’t really have a good plot at all. A lot of people refer to Lucas as he said that the all of the movies “Rhyme”, which I think translates more to “copies eachother with minor tweaks”. It gets boring And yeah, trying to understand certain things in TLJ and TRoS made me hate the movies. The emperor coming back? Cool but no reason as to how he ACTUALLY survived. Maz Kanata being in TLJ for literally 30 seconds? Kinda pointless and stupid. Snoke just being a decoy of the emperor? Lame. Rey and Ren kissing in the Romeo and Juliet scene? WTF??? I get it, the movie is just all sounds and cool visuals. It can be hard as an adult to get that sense of childlike glee from watching a newer addition to the series that you love. I really can’t say anything differently other than try to focus on the things that the movie did right, because those make the bad parts of movies worth more than them not existing at all IMO 😊

I love all things Star Wars, including the prequel‘s, but I would say the sequels were better than the prequel now before you say it I’m aware they weren’t perfect. There were some flaws in the sequels but why made it so great maybe not the acting but the story and the appearance of it in the sequels is how real Star Wars should be made in order here is my favorites and order the prequel‘s are my fourth favorite. The sequels are my third favorite. The originals are my second favorite and my number one favorite of all is rogue one rogue one was real Star Wars.

10:29 You might have missed that it's actually established in the movie that Chewie was in a different shuttle. When Finn saw him get captured, there were two shuttles in the wide shot and they were putting him in the shuttle on the right while the one on the left was the one that flew in the direction of Rey and Ren. 21:43 I'd like to point out how smart the shots are between Rey and Ben in that scene. Whenever they see each other through the Force, they were facing separate directions on the screen, but here they are in the center of the screen showing their complete trust for one another. 23:02 This may be a personal opinion, but I really liked the moment where Poe felt so defeated. It was just so well acted. You feel it in his voice that he really thinks this is it.

In my opinion, the best thing about the movie is how it connects elements from outside the Skywalker Saga, like The Clone Wars (IE Ahsoka Tanno's voice), Rebels (IE Kanan Jarrus and many ships like the Ghost), Vader: Immortal (IE Mustafar starting to become more suitable for life) and even bits of the Anthology films and The Mandalorian. It truly gives you the feeling that the Star Wars story has come full circle at last.

A few missed wins I can think of: The little smirk Palpatine gives Ben when he sees him on the ground is so reminiscent of the look he gave Luke when he wouldn't turn in ROTJ. Also, as much as I don't like Ben being out of the fight, the Emperor throwing the last skywalker into a huge pit definitely felt like some petty payback for what Anakin did to him. But more importantly, Ben healing Rey had another big meaning as mentioned in TFA. When Kylo is talking to Vader's helmet he says "I will finish what you started". By healing Rey, he kept the one he cared about from dying, which was always Anakin's goal in the first place. Whether or not he knew about what the "pull to the light" he was feeling was, he accomplished what Anakin never did and truly finished what his grandfather started.

I couldn't help but see the force healing thing as a direct contradiction of what's already been established. Or to be more specific, force...reviving? That is what Anakin was after. It's what Palps used to ensnare him and drag him fully to the dark side with the promise of unlocking that power that had eluded all but his former master. The fact that Rey just does stuff with the force kind of bugs me because I think it robs her character of any interesting development and makes her a vehicle for plot. But I can set that aside. Kylo being able to fully revive dead Rey with the force makes no sense to me. How can it just be a thing he can do? We already know there was like one guy who could kind of maybe do this somehow and he was a sith who as far as we know spent a lot of time unraveling the mysteries of life and death. There's a pretty good video by Uniquenameosaurus that presents a rework of the entire sequel trilogy. It's a good bit of fun and while it isn't perfect by any means, it offers a good look at what could have been achieved if someone had simply had a plan for this trilogy. TLDR: I durnt liek furc hael!

As I can see it though maybe Rey wasn't fully dead when Ben revived her? We've seen all the jedi who die collapse immediately after death and yet Reys body hadn't done that yet so maybe she was just on the edge? Still not much more practical but I agree with above, it clearly looks like it was supposed to parallel Anakin/Padme, where this time Ben was strong enough to save the one he loved, unlike his grandfather

And honestly, I think it’s a good idea for them to revamp all the Legends storyline into a canon that’s more mainstream and easy to follow. It doesn't mean you can't enjoy the film or even that any of us hope you don't enjoy film. It just means that if asked, I'll tell you my opinion, that the film moves far from the original interpretation of the lucas created Star wars universe of the 80's and 90's. It's not even like this is the first time this has happened with a movie franchise. See X-Men Origins: Wolverine if you don't believe me. There's another movie that fans of the original X-Men series despised but I'm sure a lot of people still enjoyed it. They just weren't judging it based on its credibility with in the X-Men universe similar to people who liked the new Star wars trilogy.

That is actually an issue I have with this review and people arguing. Yes, the force was never about "just lifting rocks" that is true. The entire point of Anakin turning over to the dark side was that the force could accomplish alot more, like save Padme, but the jedi thought it "unnatural". The issue is you have someone who never trained and has horrible form with a lightsaber, has access to all of these abilities. Im sorry, but his "argument" is just dumb. "He saw her do it do it so he knows it?" Nevermind how does she know it, but he knows it because he saw her? Ima go watch some NASCAR and be back a pro racer. Look, if you like this movie it's fine, more power too you. I would rather you like it than hate it. However, it is a shit movie. The plot is basic and makes no sense at times, the characters are flat, nothing is built too, and overall, it just failed. I hate the movie because of that. I love the scene of Kylo healing Rey so so so much! Kylos big inspiration was his grandfather, Anakin. Who turned away from the jedi, and became a sith, specifically so he would have the power to save his love from dying. Now, we see here, after two generation, his grandson does indeed “finish what he started” and saves the person he loved. It’s like poetry, it rhymes
@gentlemancharmander4411
@gentlemancharmander4411 2 жыл бұрын
@Daniel Bautista don’t pretend that the force hasn’t always worked like that. With no training, Luke was able to shoot the torpedo into the Death Star, and Anakin could pilot a pod racer. It’s always come out of no where with no training. The force does as it wills. As for Anakin not using force healing. Honestly, I’ve seen a lot of different explanations. Not all force users can use all force powers. The jedi didn’t teach it. The jedi didn’t even know about it. The jedi only taught it to a few healers. It’s actually a dark side power. And that’s just a few off the top of my head. I don’t know what the canon reason is, but any one of these are valid possibilities. Although the true answer to all this is… don’t think about it. From the very beginning, Star Wars (movies) has never been bogged down by details. You could find plot holes or inaccuracies in every movie, you could rip the whole franchise apart if you wanted to. But why would you want to? It’s a lot more fun to just shut your brain off and watch some crazy movie about space wizards, than to spend all your time trying to figure out the (frankly unimportant) details

@@gentlemancharmander4411 You encapsulated perfectly things i wanted to say but i couldn't. In short, the way i see it, Star Wars has an in universe deus ex-machina built to it, and it works pretty good. There is no true way the force works, anything can happen and that' s the beauty of it. Besides, if we want to be more specific, in the movies (which in my head are the only canon) there is no real training shown except from some lightsaber training and gymnastics.

Don't forget, there are people on the internet that will constantly decide: "It's bad and everyone should see it that way!" I personally thought it was decent as a movie. The animation and action remained the same way, even though the story spiraled out of control. Here's an analogy that might work: This movie is like a child. It has an exciting spark of life. It has the imagination and the power. What it lacks is the "story". The base. The thing that all else is built on and helps bring everything else to life. Like a child, it had no organization at all and just went all over the place. Just like a kid, people can find that annoying. Some don't mind the energy of a young child, running around a room accidentally messing things up, but it can still tick them off slightly, they just care more for the child's energy and creativity than what the story/adventure is based on. Meanwhile, for others, you can guess the rest. Some would rather strangle the child and just be done with it.

Actually, I think Kylo's entire goal after TLJ and even in this one is to prove that Bloodlines DON'T matter. He's a Skywalker/Solo and she's a Palpatine. But he uses the dark side and she doesn't. I don't think Kylo was concerned about specifically being a sith. He just wanted power to exist without being held down by the baggage of his lineage and he wanted the same for Rey.

I think you're absolutely correct. That's part of what his "let the past die" mantra was about. When he gets mad that Rey doesn't take his hand it's not because he's made she's not turning into a Sith. His words are "no, you're still holding on". He realizes, much like Luke did that the Jedi/Sith are both bullshit and both need to die out so a new path forward can be made. I understand why he died at the end of this movie, it gives the whole movie a bottom. But it would've been amazing to see him and Rey forge the new Jedi order together, better than the past.

Sir, as a fellow star wars fan, I feel compelled to apologize to you. Apologize for making you feel like you had to make that introductory disclaimer. You liked episode 9 and with pride and defiance, I admit I did too! A lot of people didn't, and that's their right. I want to point out a "technology win" in that we see a development of and miniaturization of weaponry. In TFA we saw a planet sized planet killer, in TLJ we saw the dreadnought with rapid-fire orbital bombardment cannons, and in RoS (Rise of Skywalker) we saw a single ship that could blow up planets. To ME, it felt like they were all part of the same research that, while it wasn't perfect, was still "good enough" for tactical deployment.

It would be strange if there wouldn't have been such research. We know that technology is stagant in SW and mostly optimazation of existing technology. The use of kybercrystals as weapons (not as Lightsabers) is almost 1.1k years old (in legends). The Deathstar just took this idea to extreme. And with Alderaans destruction I am sure that everyone wanted to obtain such and even better technology. The emperor put all his focus into it, so why wouldnt he make his favorite weapon more powerful? (I know this is not canon, but I like to belive he used the infinty seed as powercore and recource material to build all those ships)

@@AtheistGamerz the cultural circlejerk exists on a pendulum. When something big comes out you get really intense opinions in one direction. Then a while later the pendulum swings the other way, and you get a lot of people saying "well actually unlike what those simpletons at the time thought in the heat of the moment, this thing is just the opposite" and then after that's done it comes to rest somewhere in the middle. Then it gets a bump in the positive direction when all the people who were kids at the time of release get old enough to start making content and say "hey remember *this* thing? That was the SHIT!" Then people usually forget about it.
