Carbon dating doesn’t give the precise year, but it gives a margin of years. The oldest Qur’anic manuscripts dates between 568 AD and 645 AD, Prophet Muhammad’s mission lasted between 610 AD and 632 AD. So no, Carbon dating doesn’t show at all that the Qur’an is older than Prophet Muhammad, because the date it gives is not precise.

Uthman compiled the Quran in 670, Prophet Muhammad didn't compile it so matching it with his lifetime makes no sense either way. If our narrative was true then the carbon dating would give the range 670-720. Wake up from the matrix.

You have to go to the works of the scholars that he mentioned. Jay is (sort-of) skimming the surface of a deep lake. The decades-long work of scholars reveal the deep, truths in the deep waters of the lake. FYI: All of these sorts of discussions happened within Christianity during the 19th and early 20th century. That is when texts (From ancient Gnostic groups) were discovered in caves and in ruins.[1] After the Dead Sea scrolls (post- WW2) were discovered the Jewish scriptures were verified as unchanged. The Jewish sect (Essenes) who copied their texts (and hid those texts in clay pots within caves) were only one sect of Judaism that was active in the First Century CE/AD. Yet what they copied is what Jews use today. --------------- 1.) After Trinitarian Christianity became the official (and only legal) religion of the Eastern Roman (aka: "Byzantine") empire; other sects were forced to keep a low profile. Many migrated to areas outside of the jurisdiction of the Roman-Byzantine empire (mostly they migrated into desert areas). Khadija's cousin (uncle?) Waraka ibn Nawfal was a Nestorian priest (so it is said) Nestorians used Aramaic as their church language (Many migrated to Persia) Some parts of the Qur'an appear to have been (originally) in Aramaic. Mohammad also had a connection to an Arian monk or priest. Arianism and Nestorianism were considered heresies by the official church headquartered in Constantinople (now called "Istanbul" which means "the city") Those weren't the only two heresies that the official church opposed; but those two were the largest groups of heretical Christians in the Roman- Byzantine empire.

This sounds so much like Joseph Smith's partner in crime Oliver Coudry when they came up with the Book of Mormon. Oliver Coudry worked for a printer/publisher in New York that a congregational pastor named Solomon Spalding, had dropped off the manuscript of his fictional novel he was trying to get published. He wrote it in King James English style like scripture. His novel was his hypothesis about how the Indians came to be before Columbus discovered America. The big debate around the 1820's in academia was "How did Native Americans get to America before Columbus. " They had not yet figured out that the Native Americans came from Russia through Alaska. Solomon Spalding died I believe around 1825ish and his book manuscript at the printers where Oliver Coudry worked came up missing. 2-3 years later, in 1830 I believe, Joseph Smith and Oliver Coudry published the Book of Mormon as "another testament." Meanwhile Solomon Spalding's widow along with her family and friends sued Joseph Smith in the courts of New York for stealing her husbands work after someone brought a Book of Mormon to her saying, "Isn't this the book your husband was working on?". Many family and friends, some of whom helped Solomon Spalding edit his "Manuscript Found" (That was the title of his novel) for publishing testified under owth that the Book of Mormon was Solomon Spalding's novel with some minor changes to it. One of Oliver Coudry's decendents actually researched this several years back and wrote a book about this listing all of these court documents and affidavits that were filed by the family under oath. Sounds like the Quran has the same problem. It existed before Mohamed and Mohamed stole the material.

Islam has taught (since at least, the 20th century) that the Qur'an went directly from God to an angel (supposedly the archangel Gabriel) to Mohammad's mouth UNALTERD that the recitations were memorized and recorded EXACTLY as Mohammad recited the verses. I firmly believe that Mohamed himself had the first Quran written down because of the accounts of St. John of Damascus who said: "...until the time of Heraclius, they were plainly idolaters. From that time and until now came up among them a false prophet called Mamed, who, having encountered the Old and New Testament, as it seems, having conversed with an Arian monk, he put together his own heresy. And under the pretext of seeming pious, attracting people, he reported that a book was sent down to him from heaven by God. Therefore some of the compositions written by him in a book, worthy of laughter, which he handed down to them as an object of reverence." The carbon dating fits with these writings and I trust that an actual holy man (St. John of Damascus) gave us true witness of what early Islam was all about. There are no 9 samples as you mentioned in the video. Research paper talks of less numbers. Christian Robin writes 5 samples were analyzed from folios, but presents carbon dating for 6 samples (I'm not able to understand why). One of samples (paper writes "échantillon" meaning one sample) was analyzed in 3 other laboratories.

But anyway, we have more contemporary sources for the birth, life, death, burial and raising of Jesus than we do of the Roman emperor he lived under, Tiberius Caesar. The big question then is where did Muhammad's characteristics come from. If he was invented from whole cloth then the religion's authors (multiple authors over the course of time adding additional material seems most likely) look like a bunch of evil jerks who wanted a religion that would give respectability to their darkest urges. Arab history looks invented, as if they said "we need a great warlord like the Greeks had". Why bother even mentioning Alexander in the Quran? The split between Quran and Hadith seems odd though, if you're going to the trouble of inventing a history for a man why not make it part of your invented holy book?

Saying Muhammad was illiterate is like saying Da Vinci was an idiot because he didn't go to highschool. People in ancient times did not have education systems similar to ours. Muhammad belonged to a society that had an oral tradition - in that regard he was very well educated. Furthermore, to your point on knowing about other religions: Mecca was not isolated, it was a trading post where people of different faiths passed through. Heck, even Medina where Muhammad escaped to had a majority Jewish population. Carbon dating is flawed and inexact. Many INDIVIDUALS agree on that. The Blible's oldest papyrus and parchment are PALEO-GRAPHICALLY (subjective) dated to 3rd or 4th centuries. There is NO Original Source (primary) from such ages because paper had not appeared in Europe (anyway paper without lignin lasts at best 500 years), and papyrus lasts for 300 years in wet environment such the Mediterranean, and parchment at best for 1000 years. Quran (and Islam) appeared straight forward after Nicaean Council, progressively arising from Unitarian religion, which was pursued by Trinitarian fanaticism. Muhammad (who really existed in contrast to Jesus, which is doubtful) allegedly was born in 622 AD (Gregorian date). If you subtract 325 years (date of Nicaea Council) there are 297 years! The missing years made up by the error in pope Gregory's calculation, which added 10 days to the calendar Reform when he must have added 13. (This theory called 'Phantom Years' was proposed by H. Illig, and confirmed later by H.U. Niemitz).

Carbon dating is actually quite accurate nowadays, particularly for dates only centuries old. C14 is calibrated by various means including tree ring dating. Much work has been done on this over the past 40 years. This isn't the 1950s! Also, paleontologists study dinosaurs and other very ancient life forms. Mistakes and out-dated statements really undermine your otherwise fine work.

Well, Mormons and SDAs don't kill people, don't throw acid in people's face, take over streets in Paris and London and turn them into slums. On the other hand, Mormons and SDAs are generally well-educated and hold degrees and are not poor at all. But Muslims in general don't in many cases even know how to read. So when they hear of these things, they can't study it because they can't read but still, get really upset about it. The answer then for this is to push through hate speech laws in the UN in order to silence the truth coming out about Islam. @ courag1, He (or his wife's cousin/uncle(?)-- Waraka ibn Nawfal) probably did plagiarize earlier works. BTW: Joseph Smith called himself "the new Mohammad" as well as the successor to Mohammad. Mormonism/LDS is a form of Gnostic Christianity (as were Arianism and Nestorionism) Islam, is sometimes considered to be an offshoot of a gnostic Christian group. So the problem here is that they didn't carbon date the writing on the parchment so far as I was able to find. And just the parchment itself, which was pre-made and sat for years and years according to this theory. But, this really doesn't fit the M.O. of how things were done back then. Typically, an illiterate area before Islam adopted Arab text, didn't store parchment for years or decades only to be used randomly later. That seems absurd to me that they would record such an important thing on decades old parchment stored somewhere? Oh come on, that's ridiculous. I'm sorry, but this video is basically saying that a school child couldn't possibly have written on a blackboard because carbon testing of the blackboard shows it to be 100 years old, and there is no other writing than "Teacher smells". Testing on the San'aa manuscripts shows clearly they were palimpsests, meaning they were written on and then washed clean before being reused - just like a blackboard. The paper is old, the writing is newer. We have no idea of when the ink was added to the paper! This video is simply wrong. Actually, they all match up just fine, but we Christians don't make up silly claims like "our book has been sent down, unchanged, to the letter, to the dot, to the sound, and therefore it must be the word of God," as Muslims do, especially when the Quran's original manuscripts do not agree with themselves, much less the 1924 Hafs reading. Did you know there are people alive today older than the Quran you read? We Christians on the other hand have the same Torah Jesus held in his hands, and the same Gospel (literally, "good news") his followers wrote, and they are the true followers of Jesus who your Quran said would become uppermost. Our Bible has not changed in thousands of years, and we have never needed to brag about it to claim authenticity. The Bible simply stands firm with the truth. You claim your book is the unchanged word of God, yet your Quran changed in less than one generation. See the problem here?
