Dallas Green should grace the ear & mind of more people
, nothing else to say.
I do not own any of this content, it belongs to its respective owners.
lyrics :
We chase misprinted lies
We face the path of time
And yet I fight
And yet I fight
This battle all alone
No one to cry to
No place to call home
Oooh... Oooh...
Oooh... Oooh...
My gift of self is raped
My privacy is raked
And yet I find
And yet I find
Repeating in my head
If I can't be my own
I'd feel better dead
Oooh... Oooh...
Oooh... Oooh...

This was one of my dads favourite covers. Larry Vank October 7, 1969 - March 23, 2023 Father of 5 and the most loving husband to my mother Nicole. Though he was my stepdad technically- he raised me from when I was 2 years old. He chose us as his children. Greatest father to have ever lived. Jeremiah, Eva, Alex, Amber, Mom and I all look forward to seeing you one day and having our music sessions once more.

I've listened to this song so many times after my dad passed away. He didn't want to live anymore, but I don't blame him - he was in so much pain in his last year. This song and Dallas Green's soothing voice has comforted me over and over again. "I Fight this battle all alone" etc. gives an idea of the despair Layne had. Not to mention the lyrics in Dirt. It's so dark. His bandmembers tried to help but I guess the drugs really had a big grip on him. Poor guy.
@modusceo

Mark was the only one really allowed near him around him for the last years, and he said he just hoped that some big emergency would put Layne in the hospital and give him some time to kick, but it never came. He was literally the closest person and friend to the two biggest rockstars dying in the 1990's.

People typically don't understand when older AIC fans say that every song is about heroine. Of course, this song is about fame and holding on to one's identity......but it's also about heroine. It bleeds into every aspect of the artist's expression and remains as the layer beneath. Every song has a oily black vein corroding the soul from within and that( in a strange way)makes it even more beautiful.
@marissalo94

FacePlant Layne wrote the song man. And by stating that he's paying tribute to Layne and the band I'm not discounting Jerry's contribution. Jerry wrote the majority of the band's catalogue and I'm well aware of that fact. Layne's vocals were what made the songs sore. If you can't recognize that fact then you shouldn't consider yourself a true fan of the band.

Man. I’ve been watching rock covers and guitar covers for a while, and then someone had to recommend coming to listen to Dallas’s version of something. I’ve been going through letting go of a relationship that lasted 4 years, and she used to listen to city and Colour with me a lot. Dallas’s voice just rends open my heart

I lost my older brother October 1st to drug overdose. I joined the military about a year and a half prior so I could learn self discipline and would one day be able to return home and live with him. His death rattled me. Nutshell has always been my favorite song, it was the first song I ever played at an open mic and it always made me feel back at home. This version brought me to my knees as many forgotten memories of my brother showed themselves. This version is so gentle and so beautiful. Thank you Dallas, if you ever see this.

this song confounds me...how is one even supposed to respond to such beauty and sorrow at once...my ears devour it but my heart aches...this man is comprised of music...this is beyond music...its audible art...noone is a bigger fan of layne and i say to anyone criticizing this version doooood please just stop...the last thing a song of this beauty should do is divide us...shit we have enough legitimate things to divide us...cant you see this is a tribute to honor layne...its dripping in praise and adoration for him...and why are we comparing which version is better...its like arguing about whether love or compassion is a better emotion

Of course we all miss Layne. Of course no one can sing this song with as much emotion and heart wrenching turmoil as Layne . Its because Layne wrote it. But Dallas is not trying to. He is just playing and singing a beautiful song in his own way. Not a competition but a tribute to Layne and obvious admiration for such a perfect song. I love it. I felt as if Dallas played the song with as much emotion as anyone except for Layne. He is obviously a fan that loved and respected Layne and his otherworldly talent

I think it is so fucking hard to put into words how hearing Dallas sing so many songs (his or cover) makes me feel. Haunts me, touches my soul, makes me weep, makes me think about things I never thought of before, his singing actually makes me want to be a better human being! I can't get enough of his voice and the feelings that it makes me feel. His music is such a gift and I don't know if I'm worthy but I sure will try to be! ❤

Most people could overlook that guitar work and just say his vocals were phenomenal...Not me. Being able to sing that well live is one thing. But strumming that guitar with as much feel as he did..that made this cover. The quick play on the chord progression...The way he accents certain notes..And The soft notes in between the chorus and verse. All so well thought out. What a great cover.

Such a different direction than the grunge norm this song is typically covered with, yet it still fully conveys the exact emotion as Layne's original vocals, dare I say just as well as the original.
