Hi Greg, nice to see you again in a new video buddy. Generally speaking all true - from my experience salary for setting out engineer varies between 20-23/hr. For site engineer range is 23-28 and seniors can get around 280-320/day. All gross of course and when you're self employed. Worth mentioning as a senior you have more responsibilites and need solid experience. As a senior you do way less setting out but more site engineering, quantyfing, ordering materials, steel drawings, quality assurance etc. All in all it is a very demanding and satysfying job I would strongly recommend as a career :)
@SITENG
@SITENG 3 жыл бұрын
You're absolutely right Rafal, at a senior level you need experience and knowledge, but for entry level you need to know EDM, have proactive approach and will to learn. Good to have you here!!!
@rafaziobron233
@rafaziobron233 3 жыл бұрын
@@SITENG Thanks! Entry level is quite easy - there are lot of construction agencies in London for example. You will learn lot of stuff from site engineers. Being a proactive assistant is the best way to do it. Always ask questions. As a beginner I would start with smaller project - site engineer there will have time to explain and teach you lot of stuff where on big projects there is always hustle and no one has time to teach you. Once again - always ask questions :)
@SITENG
@SITENG 3 жыл бұрын
Rafał Ziobroń I noticed that as there are more and more robotics on sites, there is less opportunities to get a job as an assistant and learn like you said (which was the best really). Big jobs are definitely busy and demanding, but at the same time giving you the chance to enter with minimum knowledge&experience, once you manage, you're alright, but as you say: ask questions guys!

Hi Leonard! Not really, it is useful of course, but there are many useful things which you do not need to know at first. On bigger jobs you won't be even using this too much as this will be senior engineer job and you will be expected to be on site almost all the time to keep lads busy marking lines, levels and checking on them. Money will be less though, but it's investment as quickly you will get more. 5 day course is just to get a 'paper' really and won't teach you much, but it might be the sign for your guys that you really want to change and to keep you it might be the only option to give you a chance. Go for it Alex! Ask your PM maybe he will let you to work as an assistant engineer in your company. You don't need to have a college, or degree for it. Once you will like it then you can think about college, or just do it by experience on site.

Hey greg. 3 years ago I started surveying in lapland sweden measuring cable internet networks and working on a huge windmill project here for ground works also doing the PLT for the windmill project. And various road construction projects. I have no university education and have been trained on the job. Machine controls and using geomax leica and trimble along with topcon gps I also have self taught my self autocad civil while we have now been working from home. And have passed my drone test and flown for projects also. I am originally from the UK and am thinking about moving back. Do you think there would be a job for someone like me with no education. And only 3 years of job site training.
@SITENG
@SITENG 3 жыл бұрын
Hi! I really think year will be crazy. 3 years experience is a lot, trust me. If you know how to use the EDM, know the drawings and CAD I don't see any problem. You don't need education as you know the job, like I said before on the channel everyone can be an engineer here in UK. Once you on site and doing your job well that's all. If a groundworker will take the EDM and do the job right he'll be a good engineer, if the MICE engineer with best school will do it wrong, he will be sacked. Remember this is site engineering and mostly setting out is needed and from there only way is up!

I have a really nice lad who's in college, but job is quite big and he's mostly busy doing cubes and keep all this up to date and don't have much time to work with engineers, so try to go as engineer assistant, or junior engineer and as you graduate don't be worry, everyone knows you will be learning so the scope will be changing as well, as the more you will know and the quicker you learn the more responsibilities will be put on your shoulders.
