I am an absolute newb here and this was both my first ride and my first Jeep. That said...after I got off that trail and recovered (mentally...LMAO) I really enjoyed everything about it except for the mud pits. Thank you for your input/test results...it actually confirmed what I thought to be true for the 2/4...it was a good ride and I never did get stuck (close but didn't). Ran it in 4H until the one mud pit when I did almost get stuck...ran it down to 4L and got right out of it. You cant compare torque by rpm cause a lot of factors as torque converter stator and turbine setup is different from v6 to 4cyl,also if you want to feel the torque in a turbo engine you need to create load,pull a broken vehicel in that trail and you will clearly see the 2.0 torque shine

It does make it tough to assess when there is more than one major variable in play. If the Jeeps were identical besides engine, it would be easier to tell what difference the 4 vs 6 makes. Apparently most people commenting don't understand dyno charts or where the engine pulls. The 2.0 does have more torque than a stock 3.6. But the 3.6 pulls sooner at lower rpm. The 2.0 spools up a little later in the higher rpm. Where you won't be crawling at. The 3.6 is better at lower rmp and you don't have turbo heat. The 3.6 is also detuned compared to the Ram or charger by a considerable margin. Doesn't take much to unlock it. The 2.0 is a great street motor with zip

In 4-LO 4WD, even the crappy 3.8L is good enough on trails, but the 2.0 TC is helped by an electric torque motor (not sure you mentioned it), so the engine itself w/ turbo isn't enough... it needed electric assist. But the bottom line is that the torque is there when needed. I think you did a good job trying to keep things even and I definitely appreciate the effort for the video overall. It seems either engine is OK. Sadly the 2.0L TC doesn't offer any significant increase in fuel consumption so really..... it's buyer's choice. Good job though!

I know this video is from 2018, but I purchased a 2022 2.0L I-4 and does just fine. In the years of tweaking the engine for better performance, I am showing fewer RPMs than your tests. It is not as bouncy and is very capable. I am not a hard-core trail rider. I consider myself on the amateur end of average, but it has done very well. For the record, it's a 2022 Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon with OEM steel bumper and stock tires. My only complaint is that on the highway I feel like I have to push it to get more power. Acceleration for passing is not has strong as I would like. But I am comparing the Jeep to my previous vehicle (Chevy pickup) with an 8 cylinder. I think Jeep/Stellantis did a good job with tweaking the engine between your tests and today.

Good comparison. Were there any differences in gear ratio? Let me know next time y'all head up to AOAA, I'll wheel with ya.

Sounds great! They were both 3.45 gears! We'll definitely be going towards spring time again!

I like this comparison. At least put the same tire combination on both rigs. Thanks.

I hate having a turbo vehicle for many reasons, minus the good gas mileage when I am not gunning it. The previous 4 Cylinder Wrangler would do good at low end if not for the turbo, because you are waiting for it to spool for that torque.
@bekajikia17542 ай бұрын
3.6 will be more responsive in such situations. Don't refer to dyno charts and claim that 2.0 has more torque. That is just on paper under specific conditions. Dyno charts demonstrate full throttle power once turbo fully spools up. At low RPMs where you crawl at, and at part throttle situations where you modulate throttle lightly, the 3.6 will be better and more responsive. I own a 2.0 now. I had a 2011 3.8 auto before (which a lot of people hate on) and can clearly say that in low range 3.8 was much more responsive and it would crawl over things with less effort, even with its terrible long gearing in the transmission. Once in 4 low you had to really push the breaks harder to prevent it from going. Nothing like that in 2.0. It has much lower 1st gear but i barely feel any difference when I engage 4 low and put it in Drive. Only when you get going and RPMs climb, you start feeling the difference. Now I will not say anything about how 2.0 just rolls downhill while larger 3.6 and 3.8 are able to maintain low speed during descends much much better.

the tires appeared to be 80 psi ...you would get less bounce and more traction where you guys unprepared to Air down? and I feel the only Real /kinda part was the hill start-stop everything is feeling and 2/door /4/door and I don't feel any of that was challenging enough you need to wheel the same trail for a day and not just a photo shoot ...I wheel harder picking up my kid from school. I don't think this does anyone any good.
@CJBroncoF1506 жыл бұрын
Tires were aired down to about 20 psi, and if you wheel harder than that picking your kids up from school you should talk to your local representative, and ask him where your tax dollars are going!

Anybody out there running 87 in their 2.0? Manual says designed for 87 but 91 preferred
@conniekennard73625 жыл бұрын
Ryan Lawson I run both in my 18 rubicon and notice a .4 mpg difference. That has been the only thing I noticed. 22.7 on 91+ octane consistently. I love the 2.0. I have the 4:10 ratio and 8 sp auto and it will smoke the V6 every time. I don’t agree with most that the V6 is the best. This is just my findings and maybe I got a (good Jeep) .

And whats the comparison in usage of fuel while doing this? Because thats what they point at in this generation. Smaller engine with a turbo that presses the same or equal power but with less fuel. Just like these normal 5 door cars these days with 1.1 to 1.3 3 cilinders and a turbo that brings you the same performance as a 1.6 or 1.8. How ever, in some countries you pay extra taxes by the weight of the car and the engine size and fuel usage. So i still think people would go for a lighter car with a lighter engine that almost brings the same amount of power and torque as the brutal heavier one. But still. A v6 3.6L is bad ass doesn’t matter how you take it :’)

If you own a Jeep as a status symbol vehicle and just use it as transportation around town maybe the turbo. If you use the Jeep as it should be used and get it dirty, I'd get the V6. Turbo's get expensive being abused the older they get.

I’m so stressed I got the 4 cylinder turbo I had no clue lol I was looking for bells and whistles I did tell the dealership I didn’t want new technology I hope I didn’t make a mistake I have been a little worried about it I keep watching these videos see if the turbo wins lol

You're going to love it. I picked up my 2.0L rubicon the end of December and it's been great. Most negative comments come from people who've never driven one. The hurricane motor is a proven engine and it's been in the Fiat lineup for some time. It's not new technology. The ESS has been flawless. The mileage is awesome. On my 600 mile trip home from the dealer I averaged 24.8 mpg. The only advice I'll give you is to run 91 or 93 octane fuel. I've also had a 2017 rubicon with the 3.6 engine so I've driven both. For me the 2.0L is way more fun to drive...

i remember back in the 90's when Jeep Wrangler has that crappy 123HP 4 cylinder engine VS the 4.0L 6 cylinder 180HP......that 4 was so weak. my brain is trained to tell me that a 4 cylinder is NO GOOD for a Wrangler, even tho this new 4 cylinder turbo engine does seem very good

Jeeps have had 4cyls since the beginning. The 2.5L in the YJs was a decent match for the 5spd and 30" mudders. It would bog down in 1st/4H before it buried itself in deep, heavy snow/mud. Then you could back out in 4L. My 4.2L Jeeps had similar power, but enough torque to bury themselves in 1st/4H. With a K&N and a catback, a 2.5L/5spd YJ could turn 30" mudders at over 80MPH on stock 4.10s. That's enough giddyup for me.

Don't turbo engines fail sooner than a aspirated engine . All that carbon build up kills turbos.
