This way of eating, or way of life, totally defies all I’ve ever been taught about food and nutrition. I really damaged my body after trying extreme cleanses and restrictive diets. After taking a yoga teaching course, I was introduced to Ayurvedic medicine and how to properly eat for my body’s constitution. It’s worked wonders! Hello! So great to hear from you. For a vata/pitta imbalance, you'll want to focus on grounding foods. The sweet taste is favored for both of these doshas. So foods like quinoa, rice, nuts, seeds, yams, sweet potatoes, carrots, mangos, banana. As for meals, root vegetable dishes would be favorited. Check out www.joyfulbelly.com/ - they have TONS of great veggie dishes and you can search specific to your dosha! For a coffee substitute, us.foursigmatic.com/ has some of my favorite. They have a small dose of caffeine that is much gentler for vata. I also enjoy making my own grounding elixir with fresh cashew milk, ashwagandha, cinnamon, cardamom, 1 date, :) Enjoy!!

@Clareminded4 жыл бұрын
OnceUponABlink hello! Yay I’m SO glad to hear all of this. I too found so much light in these connections :) Lentils are fine, but soak them over night and cook and spice well. Legumes are generally astringent, making them naturally more difficult for vatas to digest, so by soaking, cooling well through and adding digestive spices will be a huge help. Millet is more pacifying for kapha, but rice oats, and wheat is better for vatas :)

Thank you for sharing. Would like to ask you please: why to avoid lamb meat if it's fatty and vata needs fats. why to avoid sour cream if vata needs both soury and creamy tastes? Finally would like to know about banana and molasses. Wouldn't they raise blood sugar? And that could make things worse?? Thank you. Regards 🌹
@Clareminded5 жыл бұрын
Amani S Very good thoughts, thank you for sharing. My personal beliefs follow more of a plant based diet. I believe that the use of animals should only be used for medicinal purpose, which yes if vata needed tonification then dark meats like chicken and turkey would be best. Lamb is very very heavy for digestion and sometimes too difficult for vata to digest, however if spiced correctly it is easier to consume and digest. Personally, I believe the dairy industry is whack and most of the sour cream people are buying is filled with chemicals and unethical and unsustainable practices. However, Takra Can be super beneficial for many digestive issues. Using high quality dairy products for medicinal purposes, I have no problem with. But this all gets super confusing when presenting something to the mass, so I simplified it in the video. You are very right in what you are saying and I appreciate your thoughts and words. These are just my personal beliefs. Lots of love x

@@Clareminded thank you for your answer. Appreciate it. I really agree with you when it comes to animal protein and plant based protein. But i asked you coz I found that you already mentioned beef meat in the " best sources" but lamb was mentioned in the other category. Anyway I m still curious to know about the sweet tastes like banana and molasses. Recently we were tought that balancing the blood sugar is d most important thing to maintain the health. Så how about bananas and molasses and mangoes which they raise the suger to a high level. I mean I would like to know what this equation is 🤔 I used to think that banana and mango are not good for us . Great regards from Sweden
@Clareminded5 жыл бұрын
@@amanis3614 Thank you for willingness to hear me out. As for the banana, mango and molasses, I'm sure there is many many research studies that could be referencing the blood sugar content you speak of. From an ayurvedic perspective that I've learned, is that they all contain a sweet rasa (taste) meaning that they are mostly made of the earth and water elements, meaning that they would be balancing for vata. Now if someone is experiencing insufficient blood sugar level or diabetes, that brings in other concerns and issues that would be addressed ayurvedically. I suppose my favorite part of ayurveda is how unique it is to each person. Because there are so many causes and possibilities of combinations that can be leading to 1 "disease" but they're all linked together. It would really depend on what else the person is experiencing of whether or now those fruits would work for them. Blessings :)

I like your video. I’m confused is celery good for vata? In the beginning you mentioned celery is balancing for vata because it helps retain water but then towards the end you mentioned celery is unbalancing for vata.
@Clareminded5 жыл бұрын
Hi Sharhful! Great point. Overall, celery isn't the best for vata because of its air like qualities. While yes it does contain water, which is good for vata, you would need another element to help absorb the water properly and make it more digestible in the body. So having salt or lime sprinkled on top of celery would help it move through the digestive tract better. Cooked is better than raw, but again either can work as long as you balance out the tastes. Above everything, do what feels best for you. :)

Thanks very much very helpful!! Can you tell us why buckwheat is to avoid for Vata dosha people? I'm very Vata type and usually cunsume it as an alternative to oat porridge with fruit, nuts and seeds and is quite moisturizing and warm just like when I use oats instead but I find my body likes that change sometimes 💚
@Clareminded4 жыл бұрын
Hi!! Great question, so the reason buckwheat isn't favorited for the vata dosha is because it has drying qualities. Buckwheat is warming, but also drying, making it most beneficial for kapha dosha. However just because a certain food is favorited for some doshas and not the other, should always discourage you from consuming. If you have a vata imbalance, then you would want to stay away from buckwheat because it may continue to aggravate you. BUT if you're living clean and don't have any major imbalances, you're fine to consume other "non-favorite" vata foods as long as you learn how to balance them. So because buckwheat is naturally drying, as a vata a better way to consume buckwheat would be to add extra oil or demulcent spices like cinnamon to help balance the natural dryness with moisture. Does that make sense?

Andrew10c With a mix of vegetable, high protein grains like quinoa, and nuts and seeds, yes I personally believe it’s possible. However every body is so different so if you start to feel off, see a practitioner. Legumes are best for vata when mixed with digestive spices and oils to make it easier to consumer. Also one more thing to keep in mind on a plant based diet is monitoring your vitamin levels. Magnesium, zinc, d3, b12, omega 3s, k2, these are all super important to get too :)

@Clareminded5 жыл бұрын
Hi! great question. I personally follow a WFPB diet the majority as well. For the oils, they are technically refined from their original form and why they're not recommended as much for a WFPB diet. Also most people are looking to lose weight and oils don't cater to that as much. However, Ayurveda promotes oils because of their lubrication. Oils are best for vata's because they are naturally super cold and dry and oil help alleviate that. Of course, over consumption is never best, but ayurveda is definitely is pro oil. Choosing the right oil and in its highest form can be very beneficial for some people. Hope this was helpful :)

@@markkremer1186 Of course, this is no problem. Ayurveda promotes individual needs and desires and you can totally make it work for your life. I would recommend implementing sesame, chia and flaxseed if you omit oils. Other fats like nuts and avocados are good too! For the flax, its best to buy the whole seed and grind it at home. @Clareminded Hi Claire, I currently drink green juice in the morning but sieve out all the fibre, and I don't add fruit. Just so I can get the nutrients from the green leaves like parsley, coriander, dill, mint with a cucumber and celery and lettuce for more hydration and ginger. So I do not have to have them raw but can have the nutrients. Then I eat some fruit like kiwi and couple dates. What do you think about this? As I get constipation symptoms and dry scalp, I try to avoid too much fruit sugar and need to get bowels moving in the morning with water and green juice. Do you now how I can reduce dermatitis problems on scalp and put weight back on as a vata?
@Clareminded4 жыл бұрын
Hello! A good place to start is with oleation. Oleation is the use of medicated oils, internally or externally. For your scalp, I would recommend massaging castor oil into your scalp 2x a week. Leave it in for a couple hours, then wash out. To decrease constipation, consume more warm spiced teas, like fresh ginger. Hmm that is interesting, the best thing to get me going, is just eating a lot of mangos. Sounds like you're not eating enough to warrant needing to empty your bowels?

Can somebody help me on my path of healing? I am vata dosha, and also I have imbalance of vata, but my main problem is acid reflux which occurs as a result of pitta imbalance. I am new into ayurveda and still exploring and learning. So far this style of life helped me like nothing else until this point of life so I would like just a little help so I can continue my healing. How to cure imbalance of pitta dosha as a vata dosha person? Thank you. Namaste

One thing that you said about meats that are best and the ones that you must avoid is that I’ve been listening and reading that according to Ayurveda Beef and pork are the worst kinds of red meats while lamb in moderation is good. As Ayurveda believes that the properties of animals are absorbed into your body and pigs and cows are slow moving animals and are heavy on the digestion to integrate it in our body whereas Lamb is a smaller and relatively faster moving animal and is easy for our bodies to integrate in our system.
@Clareminded4 жыл бұрын
Great share. Personally and in Ayurveda, meat should really only be consumed if was created consciously and if a patient needs to tonify their body and system. Lamb is a lighter meat, like you mentioned, and therefore energetically would contain less heavy dense qualities than beef and pork. For vata, especially a very depleted vata, tonification of heavy, dense foods would pacify its imbalances. I completely agree, as does Ayurveda in the fact that conscious consumption is extremely important as we do consume the energies of the animals we consume as well :) Thanks for sharing!

Very informative! But could you explain the problem related to white chicken & lamb for vata people?
@Clareminded4 жыл бұрын
Hi! Great question. So lamb is extremely heavy. It's a muscle meat so it's quite hard on digestion and if not properly digested/absorbed it can cause blockages in the blood. However this can be lessened if you properly spice the lamb, making it easier to digest with herbal allies. Making a lamb bone broth soup or consuming a smaller amount at a time would be more appropriate with lamb. As for chicken, dark meat is favored for vata because it is oiler and has more fat content (nourishing for vata), while white meat is dryer (more aggravating for vata). Of course, using herbs aids in the digestion of all of the above, but these are the general rules I learned through my studies. :)

I take coconut oil in my coffe every morning, is it considerated as "moderate" ?
@Kyriehubbard5 жыл бұрын
Ty for doing these lists. They're SO helpful to me. I am a Vata, except for the typical Vata body (im more Pitta shape). How should I best lose weight while not throwing dosha out of balance? Cut calories and only eat 3 meals ? Ps. What about watermelon for vata?
@Clareminded5 жыл бұрын
Kyrie Hubbard of course! These are all super helpful for general eating. To lose weight, you’ll need to take into account lifestyle as well as diet. Don’t starve yourself, but eat only until nourished. Oatmeal in the morning is great and filling. A root veggie bowl and quinoa for lunch and veggie soup or curry for dinner, maybe some rice if you need more substance. To lose weight, lighten up on the oils but maybe practice alternate nostril breathing to bring balance to the vata dosha. :) And watermelon is something to moderate for vata because it’s so light and airy, but if you do eat.. don’t eat it with any other foods and sprinkle a little salt on it or squeeze lime to help aid digestion. I hope this helps!

Can I ask if juicing vegetables and making fruit smoothies are ok for balancing Vata Dosha, just a bit worried that they are raw and cold in these forms, is that an issue? or is it ok as long as I keep to the suggested fruits/veggies?
@Clareminded4 жыл бұрын
Because juices and smoothies often use raw foods, are cold and light, they typically are not suggested for vatas because they carry a lot of like qualities. Cold and light aggravate vata. However, this doesn't mean you can never have a juice or a smoothie, but I wouldn't recommend making it a daily habit if your trying to pacify (reduce) vata. For vatas it's best to have a fruit bowl with seeds, maple syrup or cinnamon/ginger sprinkled on top to add grounding and moist elements. If you do consume juices, aim to incorporate vata pacifying veggies like carrots or beets, and be sure to add digestive spices like fresh ginger to stimulate your agni ;) Same for fruit smoothies, focus on bananas, mangos, dates :) Let me know if you have any follow up questions! Hope this helped to guide you.
@nicolasmith7274 жыл бұрын
@@Clareminded thank you so much that has given me direction there! One last question if I may, if I added warm milk (plant based) to my smoothie would that improve things? i.e. to get over the juices being "cold"
@Clareminded4 жыл бұрын
@@nicolasmith727 Great question! It really is about the overall temperature of the juice or smoothie. The warmer the better but sometimes warm smoothies are weird. When I consume either, I opt for room temperature. Avoid adding ice and use fresh fruit rather than frozen. Observe how you feel as well, and throughout the day. consuming anything cold will dampen your agni and make things you consume later in the day more difficult to digest then they would be. or balance with a warm digestive tea after having a smoothie or juice to rekindle your agni :)

@Clareminded4 жыл бұрын
Mmm yes I understand. I would suggest focusing on soups and stews, porridge and soft rice to ease the tension of the mouth :) I hope this helps! Smoothies would be ok too, but try to consume at room temperature, and have some digestive tea before and after smoothie :)

I'm vata, I have adhd, coeliac disease, vitiligo all since i was a child for a reason i don't know but i looked into this and found out vata symptoms are of dryness. Well I have dry skin, dry eyes, dry lips and probably a dry scalp lol. So i've been eating vata pacifying foods for the last two weeks, where i've cut out potatoes, chips and tinned foods and now i have sweet potoatoes and fresh green beans. I also have spots on my scalp and redness on my face, something i've had since 2012. I couldn't understand why an i've tried many things to remove them, but they continue to come back. I was told it's likely due to the vata energy rising to the top of my head. How long will it take roughly to notice changes and for the vata to go back down and away from my head?
@Clareminded4 жыл бұрын
Hi there :) Such beautiful information you're learning about yourself. It is all such a process and I encourage you to be patient and trust your instincts. Tuning into your digestion is a great place to start. Vata's especially need to maintain a strong agni, as everything can be traced back to the digestive system. sipping on warm fresh ginger tea throughout the whole day will help with this. Beyond that, it's tough for me to give specifics without doing a full diagnostics. I would definitely suggest checking out some more videos and experimenting what works best for you in your life. Vata's need some type of routine as well, especially around eating meals. :) I'm in the process of starting to take on clients and will post on my channel when that is officially up and I will be offering virtual consultations. Sending love xo

@@Clareminded what you think about the ADHD ? I symptoms such as a poor working memory. I can do things again and again but can often still struggle to remember what I was doing. How long would living vata balancing lifestyle take to improve this?

@@deanslife1 Hi Dean, keep after it. Ayurveda is a total lifestyle change and takes time to make real change. I would definitely try out some vata balancing pranayama (breathing techniques) as well as other stress reduction practices that feel good for you. Also, routine is key for vatas. Create a routine as much as possible throughout your whole day, especially around meal times :) Enjoy!
