The Wizard is back! In this video Clarence maxes out at a meet up we had at Murder of Crows this past week. Clarence is recently returning from a back injury sidelined him for a few months. All three lifts were performed within about 45 minutes (I *think*, I forget how long the event took). Make sure to check out Clarence's channel and like this video if you enjoyed it! kzbin.info

If I had to make a super lifter out of these three, I would take Clarence's speed, Greg Nuckols' research papers, and Omar's calves. I picked Omar's calves because of their untrained potential. And with Greg's brains I could do 4-5 different calf raise variations to bring them up. I will be the perfect lifter ever
@Gallagher.661
@Gallagher.661 6 жыл бұрын
I remember reading that having lots of hamstring involvement makes you squat less in a Greg Nuckols article so I've basically discredited the brains lol
@pookz3067
@pookz3067 6 жыл бұрын
Panther132014 I mean, that’s true. The squat naturally uses the hamstrings a little bit but the vast majority of the work done in the squat should be done by your quads. Obviously going from front squat to high bar to low bar increases the weight one can put on the bar usually, but those are 3 different lifts. Given fixed bar position on our back when squatting, you should be focused on maximizing quad involvement, which is almost impossible to do when you’re also trying to maximize hamstring involvement (e.g. the “hip drive” meme). All else equal, more muscle involvement is obviously better, but trying to focus on activating more of the posterior chain in the squat almost always leads to a weaker max squat long term.

Panther132014 unless we’re talking geared squats.
@Gallagher.661
@Gallagher.661 6 жыл бұрын
I do both raw and geared and the biggest thing that helped my raw squat was to learn how to load my hamstrings and glutes getter to take the weight through the whole movement. Maybe I'm just weird, though, because training geared got me better raw gains than my raw training did lol.

I would really like to build on my cleans and snatches. What training program would you recommend for a 46 year old? I have been training crossfit for about a year now and would like to improve my overall oly performance. I do have some shoulder limitations especially when it comes to cycling the barbell, but nothing that would hinder programmed movements. I would love to improve on raw strength.

Any tips or techniques on how to squat, bench press amd deadlift raw heavy weights? Ive been lifting for nearly 2 years and ive seen mr. Clarence videos and i want to be also be like him being able to lift heavy weights without the usage of equipments and tips and ideas on how to lift heavy without equipments on the squats, BP, Deadlifts??

This is something I want to know...I have been lifting for 1 year, trying to do my best to increase my numbers in the Big 3, I started out with a body weight of 145 lbs, I'm not taking anything right now except for Creatine, my current body weight must be between 158 to 160 lbs, but my tested max for the exercises is 195 x 1 x 1 Squats, 185 x 1 x 1 Bench and 230 x 1 x 5 lbs, right now I deloaded and I'm currently at 195 x 2 x 5 lbs DL, 170 x 5 x 5 lbs Squat and 150 x 5 x 5 lbs bench, but all of them feel heavy...like, way heavier than I think they should be, what I'm trying to say is, are those good numbers or not? am I increasing the weight too slowly? should I be lifting more weight?, is the weight I'm currently lifting too much for me? should I decrease the weight even more? I intent to test my strength every 7 weeks or so, since I'm relatively a noob and I think that I should be able to increase my max in those exercises more ofthen. Should I test more often? or take it slow?

clarence you should get your shoulder checked out. you may have distal osteolysis of the clavicle and it only hurts on flat bench. OHP and incline bench are fine so that may be why you cant bench but you can still clean and jerk

Can you ask Clarence about how he feels about the new Olympic qualification system? It now requires significantly more international competition placements at a more frequent interval in order to qualify for the Games, limiting the ability for -certain- countries to near freely pump their athletes full of PEDs. Would this new system provide an acceptable framework for Clarence to return to competitive weightlifting?

The high frequency / intensity works and I truly believe it's a "hack" for powerlifting and oly lifting. After seeing the strength level of Clarence and Kevin Booey, I decided to test it myself. Not only does it make you stronger much quicker by stimulating your CNS, but also hypertrophy as well. The key to to receive enough recover from diet / sleep, AND start taking cold showers. I'm on my 2nd months of squatting 5x times a week, deadlifting 2x, and my numbers are still consistently going up with no hint of slowing down and feeling burnt out. If I feel a bit crappy and sore, I take a day off and feel 100% the next day. Never have I had such quick gains in terms of strength and hypertrophy when I was on 531 or even squatting 2x a week.

A question for Clarence (hopefully he'll see this): Do you EVER use weight belt as part of your training? I go raw all the time, but a few of my powerlifting buddies said if I want to progress fast, I should do workouts with the belt from time to time. I don't like using a belt because it pinches my stomach at the bottom of the squat and the start of the deadlift.
