A few things with this that I love: 1. All the stuff happening in the background; you can see riders that got knocked off their mounts fighting each other on foot, other fights going on (when Aragorn picks up a spear to save Gimli you see a man on a horse get tackled by a Warg and its rider and Warg, orc, and horse all go over the cliff), plus stuff in the aftermath (you can see wounded Men crawling, orcs finished off by riders, one wounded guy getting a drink from another Rohirrim) 2. Legolas's facial dialogue when Theoden says to leave the dead. Without saying a word Orlando Bloom really conveys that Legolas feels betrayed by Theoden that they won't search for Aragorn and that he REALLY wants to search for him himself. And Theoden's pause shows he understands that but that HIS people come first.

I wouldn't go that far. It's hard as hell to capture the fantasy genre well in cinema, and PJ obviously did a good job. But it can be a little hokey at times, or fall flat. This scene in particular was unnecessary and inconsequential, for example. We know Aragorn lives to tell the tale, so why put the audience in suspense of his death? Even people who are unfamiliar with the books would have seen the trailer and wondered why Aragorn was to die before the scenes of him fighting in the rain (Helm's Deep). I'd go on but I'll surely get cooked by the fans if I do lol.

Nice little touch that it's always Legolas that doesn't handle death well, he'd have a child's understanding of it as he's never had to worry about it or deal with it being close to him until now. For him "death" is a temporary and physical thing only, he knows where his spirit will go and that his body will reform sooner or later (since he's a great and honorable hero it'd be sooner). But now that he cares about humans, hobbits and a dwarf, he has to deal with real death, permanent and unknowable and he has no practice with it.
@MikrobizepsАй бұрын
Yeah. Legolas looks confused after Gandalfs death in Moria. Like he is struggeling to process it. The ending of a life must be so uncomprehensible for an immortal being. I think about it now, & see how Theoden spoke to Eowyn. "Do this for me." when he sent her away. I don't really get why they made her into such a generic character. Before being a father I didn't understood the whole thing Those are not just soldiers charging against wargs, those are fathers and brothers, and they don't just charge for their king but to protect their family and they don't care about being alive, a lot just want to delay them so they can be safe.

Orlando bloom can play a great character. He is good. I like him as an elf and a pirate.

Damn, if they had a few more elves in company there wouldn’t be a need for anyone else.

I love the way the first reaction when the group is aware of the attack is to protect the women and children which in reality is what happen. Actually everything about this scene is class. Even the bit ot steel sticking the wargs skull together who "killed" Aragon is class.

what I liked especially about this scene is that they made the common Rohan soldiers look capable and fearless. A very big contrast to how weak and helpless they made the gondorian soldiers in ROTK

One of the best scenes in the whole trilogy.

1:58 the scene and the music go so well. I really like the calvary riding the horse and the flag. In this film, I like Rohan more than Gondor because of the calvary

What I love about LOTR is the extras don't feel like NPCs. You see the Riders of Rohan killing Wargs as well as the heroes. It makes it more realistic.

I notice when the battle subsides, Legolas and Gimli are first concerned where Aragorn is, and they don't believe the Orc until Legolas sees Arwen's necklace in his hand....then he knows its true.

2:22 My dad still hate that scene with Legolas 😅. He keeps saying it's impossible to swing your body that way! He dosn't understand it's a movie or that Legoas is an elf who can do things all others can't do 😉.

Let's just incur magic and say FU completely to Physics. That's not Legolas doing cool stuff, it's a VFX team that made a mistake.

This whole sequence is vital to seeing the leader that Theoden is without Wormtongue around: A very effective warrior (4:00) who is perfectly willing to risk himself, and a guy who makes multiple difficult decisions (keeping Eowyn in reserve, leaving the dead behind). The Aragorn fake-death thing seems a bit unnecessary, because this is about seeing Theoden in action for the first time.

First scene I saw of the Two Towers. I think it was part of some promo, which faded out just before the two forces clash together. God, I love these movies. Watch them once a year, just on principle and to remind me, that cinema can be like this.
