Idk if you address this- or if you even know- but Darrell Brooks didn't have a shock anything, they were soft cloth and padlock restraints, the judge had the deputy that worked only the job of securing Dummy Brooks... @@annacostello5181 Sovereign citizens often claim they're travelling rather than driving because they think that means they don't need a driver's license to operate a vehicle. Another trick they usually use is "It's not a car, it's a landboat" or "this is my house, I live here." There's some ancient law from before cars were invented that say that you can't be inhibited from travelling to whatever state you like, which is where this idiocy stems from. They don't realise that yes, they may travel wherever they like, but not HOWEVER they like. Train, airplane, car, bus, boat are all fine, as long as they are not operating a vehicle without a license. You can walk if you like, but as long as you are operating a vehicle you are required to have a license. They are just too dumb and too arrogant and think they found a loophole without checking for other legal hurdles.

I am a criminal lawyer myself Bruce, and you said ‘I’m not sure of WHY he is doing this?’ (Ie. Running a trial he is destined to lose) I too have pondered this the past week as I can’t see what his defence is. However I remembered for a narcissist “you can’t win a fight with a narcissist- because for them, the fight IS the win” And then what he’s doing makes sense: 1. He is a narcissist and a control freak. 2. Therefore he cannot and WILL not take blame for any of his actions. Narcissists never do, unless a ‘faux’ apology serves their agenda. 3. Which means he will not plead guilty. 4. Which is why he fired his legal team (because I have No doubt they are like ‘you are f*cked. We need to secure a deal, not run a trial’) 5. Which is why he is bucking at every turn. Because it’s all about control. (He repeatedly says “are you ASKING me or TELLING me judge”). 6. This trial is him vs the system. It is his last time he will be able to challenge authority. Once convicted, he will be subject to authority. 7. So this is a final ‘F U’ to the system. “I’m going down, but I’m going down swingin! I’ll never surrender, you will have to force me to submit” So yeh. That’s the motivation. His hatred for authority- both individual and government authority.

I’m not saying you’re wrong and the narcissism was very very real but I’ve also seen a lot of people who are frankly way overthinking his motives for self-representation, probably because they’re not fuckups who’ve dealt with the mindnumbing experience of sitting in confinement with jack shit to do. To me it was actually pretty straightforward: the longer he drags out the trial, the longer he gets to spend significant portions of the day building his defense, with lots of library time, the limited access to the internet they have, etc. If he doesn’t act out in court, then the trial gets resolved quickly and he loses that library time, internet access, etc. If he lets real lawyers handle it, he can only sit in his cell and wait for them to contact him. No death penalty in Wisconsin so he honestly didn’t have much to lose.

I mean, being a black man myself, and having watched this entire 60 plus hour pre trial, trial, and commentary, I can safely say that he already knew his life was over, and he decided to go out with a bang. He spoke about no one ever thinking he would graduate highschool, "offing" himself, and many other small seeds in the pre trail that grew into most of his antics throughout the trial. Also he is racist, and has a Napoleon complex (Although the camera makes him look rather tall and built up). He was mad because some white folks was helping his girlfriend, and he drove over those people out of anger, small quiet town where he already knew people and knew the atmosphere, which he talked about during the interrogation. Only Google knows just how many hours of this trial I have watched, studied and fascinated over.

I used to be a mental health worker and I have to say Brooks kind of reminded me of one of my clients. I couldn’t provide legal advice, but I was able to coach her on courtroom etiquette before she had some sort of hearing regarding a PFA her ex had against her. I kept reviewing with her again and again and again that she should only speak if somebody asked her question, she should answer the question and then shut up, and she should never ever argue with the judge. What did she do? Just started shooting her mouth off and arguing with the judge. She got thrown out of the court room and probably would have gotten arrested if she hadn’t been coming in there with a mental health worker to signal that yes, this woman is certifiably loopy.

He either made that up, or one of his jail mates was having some fun with him at his expense. The tether was hidden by a screen attached to the front and sides of the table he was sitting at. I tuned out after 10 minutes, she can't. I think she should try changing tactics now. Try not replying and see if it shuts him up. Every time she changes tactics, he shows just how very competent he is to stand trial. The discussion with the cop about how far he was from the car was edifying. The Prosecutor had to wake up and make an effort to refute what he was saying. Brooks knew EXACTLY where he was at all moments of the crime. The jury saw that. I also think he is abusing her, He has a history of female abuse. There are moments she is obviously uncomfortable, close to fight or flight. I've been watching this trial as I'm from the Midwest. There are moments this guy throws a fit, but he still knows the consequences. I think the Judge is just giving him enough rope. There was another incident from earlier this week. It was his Covid test results. He has to be regularly tested to be in the courtroom. He refused to give the bailiff the envelope to give to the Judge. So, after warning him that the Sheriff (enormous gentleman sitting behind the defendant) can either help him look for it, or he can do it for him. Brooks threw a fit, was forcibly removed again. He'd slipped the envelope off the table on the floor. While he was in "The Bull Pen" the Sheriff handed the envelope to the bailiff, to the Judge... just to read that it was negative!! This just shows the events and motive of him driving through the parade, hitting many people, and several had lost their lives. He had gotten into an argument with ex-girlfriend, threw a tantrum, and proceeded to take innocent people out of this world, because he didn't get his own way. He's proving his case with his actions...self snitching

Judge Dorow is doing a great job protecting the record, being as patient with Brooks as possible to build a record. He's competent to stand trial and shown himself competent to self-represent (not wise, but that's not a legal right to be wise). The Prosecution has gone so far as to help him find evidence (documents), not because they are kind, but because that also protects the record.

You can actually look up the things he claimed there. The jury thing is because his attorneys before filed for new venue because fear of tainted jury in the high profile case. The Jurisidction thing I'm not sure on. During pre trial he did ask for more time then 3 days only to prepare and a Standby to help with procedures she denied this which is usually given to new Attorneys who come on case. Standbys are usually appointed to those in these types of cases doing their own SR. So while it all seemed silly it was actually based on real things in the case

I was the defendant in a case my very excellent lawyer got dismissed, and when we showed up for court the defendant whose case was immediately before ours was representing himself pro se. The judge bent over backwards to help this guy, and he actually asked him, "Did you bring a toothbrush? Because you're going to need one." You could hear a few muted chuckles in the courtroom at that line. The judge then gave him a very generous time extension (two months if I'm remembering right) and told him to go find himself a lawyer. The guy actually took this very seriously and thanked the judge, who let him walk out ROR. I bet if Bruce ever found himself behind the bench he'd be more lenient with pro se defendants than he thinks he would, that judge was basically upholding the same moral principle behind "stop self snitching."

5:20 Courts go to great lengths to conceal the fact that a defendant is in custody during the trial. I believe it was Dellen Millard in Canada who acted as his own defense counsel for one of his murder trials and was required to wear leg chains, so the court used a podium to conceal his legs, since they'd would be visible to the jury. In the very few instances, he has asked a compelling question in cross you can see him reading it from the notes in the files his former public defenders turned over to him.

I've been unknowingly waiting all week for this video. Great way to close out a crazy week and crazy trial. The tolerance and patience exercised by the judge and prosecution is something we could all learn from.

Yep. Also, totally can't see this guy as a terrorist. Nope. No signs at all of being unhinged.

I’ve been a criminal defense attorney for 15 years almost 16 in December. I have seen some people represent themselves and they did a great job. Mainly because they had decorum and respect for the court. Not so much knowledge of the law obviously. But this guy? He is crazy without brakes. This dude makes Ronnie O’Neal look even keeled. Sovereign citizens of the absolute words! But this guy takes the cake.

I agree...And the judge has been wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy too easy on this freak! I wonder if this judge could be replaced by a more competent judge who wouldn't bend over backwards so much for this loser. Imo, this judge is more irritating than Darrell Brooks!

This judge is amazing patient but also knows EXACTLY what she is doing. With her allowing him representing himself (which I'm sure alot of judges wouldn't deem him fit to) she is letting him wrap the noose around his own neck.

Later in the trial the prosecution pointed out that the boxes Mr. Brooks has are from his previous attorneys who he fired the day before trial. He has alphabetized folders of notes for each witness from the attorneys. So that’s where the somewhat good lines of questioning come from, and then he goes into the sovereign arguments with every witness after lol. Also this short video showed two small wins Mr. Brooks had so far but leaves out the hours and hours of moments that have been nothing short of a train wreck. Just to put it in perspective!

Thank you BIG time for this contribution. THAT explains a lot I have seen in other videos. All this time I thought that he studied like crazy while in jail, and written his own questions. While instead he's just reading question written by previous attorneys. So, not only is he a murderer, he's a plagiarist.

He occasionally asks a good question or makes a good objection (even a broken clock is right twice a day), but in the midst of all the awful questions and pointless objections they just lose any power in terms of the jury.
