Love how the show contrast Lelouch and Suzaku when they speak. Lelouch as zero, stands upon rubble, signifying his path of superiority and chaos. While Suzaku stands below the orderly designed seats of the theatre, showing his loyalty to the system and order. Something I never saw on my first viewing but came to see later, beautiful.

+mandustinREACTS You would be surprise how many countries still care about pure blood royalty thing up to this day, including Japan. Recently, there was a news that a Japanese princess renounced her royal status just so she can married a commoner man. Thailand was like that too. And I'm pretty sure it is the same for European back in the day. Although a theory that Lelouch is a Japanese has never crossed my mind either. I can understand where Blind wave were coming from. Since it show that Lelouch stay in Japan, up until and even after the invasion. Be an acquaintance of Japanese prime minister son. He must tightly related with Japan somehow. Remember, there was no additional flashback about Lelouch's past at this point. I'm sure a confusion will clear up over time.

Doesn't have to be royalty though. Although marriage between royalty was the ideal, there were also many marriages between royalty and nobility, such as aristocrats, dukes/duchesses and whaterver else there is. Of course, the higher the persons status, the more "acceptable" it would be for that person to get married into royalty. A commoner being married into the royal family would be seen as an insult to nobility, and was therefore frowned upon. Although it rarely ever happened anyway.

And boom, they have begun to really like this show. I like how theatrical Lelouch is with Zero. The discussion of change is why I love this. Suzuku wants to change Britannia from within, while Lelouch wants to demolish Britannia. Remember that Zero is incredibly in love with his performance, him using his Geass on the people on the train was completely for theatrics. I like that you guys are getting into it. There’s many episodes where I just can’t wait to see your reactions to.

I feel like he's being theatrical/dramatic on purpose in these situations, since people in desperate situations would be more attracted to shiny/flashy things no matter how fishy they look to "healthy" people, so it's a clever psychological trick.

Ahh, the lovely "orange" episode. I think this is when I started getting into the show. But, seriously, why was Aaron the only one who realized "Orange" was just a bluff? They made it pretty clear that Jeremiah had no idea what Zero was talking about...

Thackman I don't understand why the others still believe what he says. Aaron at least has the good sense to always go back to a certain moment in the episode to _correctly_ hear what was said. Calvin just invents plots and convinces himself that they really happened. "Detective Calvin", my ass. As annoying as this tendency when I first started watching Blind Wave, it has actually become almost comical at this point...

A really amazing thing with foreshadowing that Code Geass constantly does, is show glimpses of characters across multiple episodes, before they ever talk or get officially introduced. It's something that I haven't really seen anywhere else, and I think it's fantastic.

They clearly _are_ foreshadowings, they all have a purpose for being shown when they are, and get fully cleared up later, though if you pay enough attention to these quick shots, you might also get where this is going, before them getting referenced later, like all foreshadowings do.

I know. So many people bitch about this dub but I think its pretty solid (apart from a couple of roles who are not bad but a little weak). I really hate it when people complain that Bosch doesn't have any distinction between his "Lelouch" voice and his "Zero" voice when neither does Jun Fukuyama.

Yeah Aaron is the sharpest of them, Calvin and Eric are then next.

Each of them has very bright moments and some dull moments ^^ Aaron sometimes is more focussed on being funny, Eric overthinking and Calvin is sometimes stubbornly sticking to a faulty perception of things, those things occasionally distract them but I would say Calvin has an analytical eye, Eric one for Story, Aaron for emotional depth, though those aspects can switch occasionally as well. It's not like they do the same mistake every time or have the same type of realization every time, but that's how I perceive their affinities.

I don’t know if anyone else has mentioned it already but in Persona 4 the lead character is not Zero. In the og game P4 and P4G he is nameless and simply referred to as the P4 Protagonist, in the manga he’s name Souji Seta and in the anime and fighting games he’s call Yu Narukami (which is what he is now more commonly called). Igor the Master of the Velvet Room tells him that he holds the power of the Wild Card (the Fool tarot card), he simplifies it by telling him to think of it like the number zero because even though it’s empty it holds infinite potential. Unless you were thinking Persona 5 which his code name is actually called Joker lol

Orange was made up for everyone to believe something bad/humiliating happened to jeremiah in the past. So Lelouch just used geass to make him act accordingly. To everyone, it looks like Jeremiah was blackmailed.

Yeah expect a lot of mind games here just like in Death Note. And remember Orange specifically, it becomes something of a running gag in the series after this point as well as an important plot element (despite being a completely made up thing). Also get used to Suzaku being frustratingly stubborn because he'll be getting SUPER annoying later down the line.

I feel like the orange thing would be much clearer if the anime showed Jeremiah *thinking* to himself "huh, orange? what is he talking about?", because him loudly yelling "what are you talking about?!" might as well have been a bluff on his part, I feel like every person would react in this way if they didn't want anyone to learn of this orange matter.

This episode highlights why I despise Suzaku. If you are living under a Dictatorship, fighting from the inside does pretty much nothing. I mean he got shot and nearly killed for not killing a civilian. And he has the nerve to get on Zeros back despite freeing an innocent while not harming or killing a single person. Suzakus ideology logically results in significant more deaths and pain in comparison to Lelouches.

I'd say it depends on the dictatorship... I mean, you could argue that part of the reason the Roman Empire did so well, for some time, was partly because they helped integrate the other areas into the empire... Yes, they had a great military, but that alone would never be enough, especially if they didn't bring in some of the locals too. Happy citizens makes for less resistance... It might be hard to implement, but that doesn't mean it need be impossible. Yes, Zero did all that without any deaths, but he's clearly aiming for a larger scale conflict... It means a lot of deaths on both sides could be pretty likely, plus who knows who could be caught in the crossfire? And hey, in a way, Suzaku almost completes his goal with the princess later, if it weren't for the accident... It may not have worked out long term or in as large a scale, but who knows? If it had turned out well there, maybe other areas would adopt their policies... Yes, maybe if Suzaku hadn't have gotten in Zero's way, maybe everything could have turned out better, but there was never a guarantee and I don't blame Suzaku for not trusting him... Also, if he had been able to stop Zero, I think he may also have been able to stop many deaths and pain as well... It's hard to say definitively, we can only see the end results.

DanielSapphire Suzaku undergoes a major character development though, it's not like he stays the same throughout the series. Of course his idealism is contrasted with Lelouche's realism (or something like that), so the story requires him to personify that at the beginning. But the past with his father already shows that he is not truly as idealistic as he wants people to believe that he is. View it this way: He is plagued with regret and self doubt, and he could have gone a number of ways from there. He chose to think up an ideal where he would no longer betray the system or moral code in order to achieve his goal (like with the staged suicide), instead he would go the proper way and he would stick by that principle. His arguing for that is basically him desperately sticking to his ideology because it represents everything he has built from the ruins of his former self. And over the course of the story you do see him suffer a great deal when it is bit by bit dismantled by the forces of reality.

What is interesting too is the fact that there is a Japanese word for zero (the number) "rei" 零, however "zero" ゼロ is more commonly used. All the other numbers from 1 upward are Japanese but for 0 they mostly use the English word.
