4:42 I actually think I can see some split serifs on both Gs and the E here... Also the dots between D, G and R are elongated - which can suggest a doubled die as well. Were I you, I'd ask around about it, it may possibly be an undocumented variety...

Thanks for mentioning it. I actually noticed the same thing when I was editing. I'll definitely look further into it. It's not as striking as the examples I've seen before, but there's definitely something going on there.

Another great video. I just bought a semi-mysterious lot of old Canadian pennies a few days ago at a local on-line auction. There were two big surprises. The first one was the vast number of, specifically 1950 pennies. The second surprise, sadly, is that most of the coins had been cleaned :(. Anyhow I did make a KZbin video on it. Neat collection but probably not worth the 25$ I paid for it. Thanks for all your tips!

always weigh not only 1983 US Cents but 2009s as well. some 2009s were minted in Copper for sets and will weigh 3.1 Grams. 1983 had a transitional error where some were minted on copper planchets. i managed to get two original wrapped rolls of 2012 Cents, steel and zinc, for my collection as well. they are stunning.! and the Rock Dove Penny is one of my favorite designs. nice finds.!!!

I asked for 50 cent pieces at TD one time and they told me "no we don't have those, and if we ever got any, we'd be obligated to send them away." And Canada still mints the things. I also went in to pick up a case of nickels one time and I got just a plain "Why?" They still sold them to me, but this just shows you the attitude they have at this branch. There are some banks you just can't seem to get chummy with no matter how polite you are.
@CADRollHunter3 ай бұрын
That's too bad. That's the way it goes sometimes, and it's all about the tellers. You get some great ones, and things can go really well. If not, well, it's unfortunate. And they have it all wrong with respect to 50-cent pieces in that they are still circulating coinage and there is no reason to send them back. They probably just don't have room in their tray for them...

@@CADRollHunter I would go to Toronto Dominion Bank and buy rolls of 50 cent pieces and silver dollars.Taking out the nicest coins,oldest is 1938 50 cent piece with consecutive years up to 1964.Not as many silver dollars,most in 1940's to 1950's.My grandmother's sister gave me a proof 1964 Confederation silver dollar when she heard I was collecting coins.Was in the Cubs and when the coins were being counted after apple day,I spied a 1943 tombac in the pile of nickles.Quickly took a ordinary nickel from my pocket and made the trade.

Question: With the price of nickel(metal) being 1.6c per gram. And a nickel(5c) from 1955-81 (pure nickel) weights 4.54 grams. Why is no one stacking them like copper pennies? One nickel(5c) is worth damn close to 8 cents!!
