I cannot imagine being in Chafee or Webb's position, running for president, polling at close-to-zero, and being ridiculed on national television. That being said, I'm not American and it was HILARIOUS.

+Le Di Chang yeah, but for the most staunchly diplomatic internationalist in the race (Chafee) to have been nothing more than a ridiculed sideshow while actual warmongers continue to earn adoration sits pretty poorly with me. Then again, that's what we've always done; we Americans always blame our leaders for being such bellicose hawks while we readily embrace the narrative that portrays peace, diplomacy, and cooperation as weakness and might as greatness. Whomever we get as the next president will probably kill a lot of innocent people unnecessarily, just like all the previous, and we'll all pretend it wasn't our fault in spite of it all.

***** Stalin was more a Marxist than communist. If he were a communist then the USSR would have been very different than it was.
@ConnerMello29 жыл бұрын
+David Grimm I'm not going to result to ad hominem attacks, since you're clearly misinformed by the Fox News propaganda machine, but you should know that it's absolutely impossible for a politician to be fascist and socialist. They're polar opposites. Bernie Sanders IS a socialist, which didn't work well for Marxist Socialist nations like the USSR under Stalin/Lenin. But it has worked extraordinarily well as democratic socialism in modern-day Scandinavia. If you're going to try to go at someone with historical examples, you should at least be informed.
@ConnerMello29 жыл бұрын
+David Grimm Okay, retype that with punctuation and I'll actually try to read it. Otherwise, it just gives me a headache. I'm not picking on you, just asking to give me an actual argument that I can read.
@ConnerMello29 жыл бұрын
+David Grimm It's not a spelling bee. You didn't put any punctuation in your response. It was one long run-on sentence. You threw like 12 ideas together without any punctuation. That literally has nothing to do with spelling. Autocorrect has nothing to do with how you do or don't use a period or comma. Are you a fourth grader?

I guess I am the only somewhat Conservative person commenting here. This is a brilliant piece. It is hilarious. I knew Stephen was going to go downhill after he left the Colbert Report. All he does now is insult Trump. Stephen, when you did that welcome home to the troops I actually cried at how funny and sincere it was. (I had just got back from a year in Iraq) and I was so happy that someone had my back in that shitty war that WE SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN IN. I became a grandfather because my son did not have to do a 2nd deployment to Syria. Colbert you were WAAAY MORE funny when you were a caricature of republicans than you are now showing your true colors.
