In 2008, I personally witnessed Steven Williams (Boogie2988) take photographs up the skirts of young females during our area’s first anime convention. It was during a cosplay parade. He tried to make a joke of it. For one time in my life, I actually verbally confronted someone and said, “those girls are no older than 16.” I left the convention room crying. He was laughing. Later, when nearly everyone was gone and the staff/volunteers were clearing the room, he shed his shirt and had a girl freshly out of high school hit his abdomen as hard as she could with a wooden paddle. I have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and syringomyelia, SO many EDSers love chiropractors and always tell others in our support groups to use them. Because so many people stopped speaking up about James and kept the conversation going and he stayed quiet for a while, everyone lost interest and seemed to forget. That's why it's SO important to keep the Colleen conversation going and make these people accountable, as we have short attention spans and that how THESE people get away with it. Damn that’s awful. I also know of a horror story with a chiropractor. A person in my sisters grade was permanently paralyzed from a quack chiropractor. It ultimately took his life early from all the complications. Shit was horrific. When my frail grandfather tried to sign up for one i refused to let him sign anything. Tried to get him to commit for 3 days a week saying they could fix his neuropathy. Luckily he was a saver and when they told him the price, I didn’t have to do much more convincing to get him out of there lol. Anyways hope your dad gets some relief! I know how much chronic pain can effect someone’s whole life. My dad also has back and hip problems so trust me when I say I have all the empathy for the situation you and your family are in.

i get this but there is also genuine chiropractic work that focuses less on breaking bones and more on healthy adjustments, and there are those that are passionate about helping people. chiropractic work does work but like the above comment said it’s more of physical therapy than the crazy ones seen. i went to uni for physical therapy and trust me there is so much evidence supporting it, i had to write so many fucking essays lol. most of it is strengthening muscles to reduce your pain. all my lecturers talk mad shit about chiros lol

But that's the problem. They may be passionate and want to help people, and the "adjustments" may feel good for a while, but they can't help "fix" anything. You just have to keep going back. It's like a massage. Feels good, but if you don't change your lifestyle and work in targeted exercises, the pain will always come back. When you add to that the risk of getting BTFO, it's not worth it. And because it's all basically BS, there's no way for regulators to separate the "dangerous" from the "helpful" chiropractors. They have a license or they don't, but that license isn't backed up by any scientific evidence that they will help in the long run, just that they've learned to make people feel good temporarily and lower (but not eliminate) the risk of them killing people.

As a Doctor of Physical Therapy, I can confirm that Chiropractic is not all what people think it is and I support Ethan's opinion. In physical therapy school, every semester we had a course called "Evidence-based Practice in Physical Therapy" learning about various topics like research and evidence supporting evaluation skills, treatments, etc. Meanwhile a girl I knew from high school who went to chiropractic school posted a story of her in class and I noticed the lecture was titled "Issues with evidence-based practice". I audibly laughed when I saw that. Also throughout PT school, almost all of my professors who are all well-established successful physical therapists made comments about chiropractors.

He grew up in Bethlehem, New York, which is a suburb of Albany, not a "small/rural town" like he often likes to say. Albany is a very accepting area and while I won't say that it's impossible that he experienced homophobic bullying it really wasn't common in our school nor in the area.
