For anyone having issues with the background music I'm sorry, I goofed and put music in that just didn't work. It also depends on what you are listening on. I think I've sorted it for all future stuff and sorry again

I absolutely hate, hate, hate ALL music when people are talking. I don't know how people made it through school and our teachers managed to teach without background music. Our brains are not designed to learn with distracting music. You are such a great teacher, very personable, funny, techie and creative, inspiring too. We don't need any music, Alex. And no one will ever use music that makes everyone happy. Just as some love metal, others punk, country, whatever ... it's a no-win situation. IF a vid has no commentary, then we can turn off the music we don't like. But when talking, we are stuck with it. It wasn't that bad, but now I have some ear worms. Ouch. But still, thanks for the cool vid!! I subscribed before being asked. I'll be back! Stay well, Alex!

Alex: you are THE coolest! I love the way you explain what you do and why! Your dedication to your craft, the technical and artistic aspects, are so inspiring and admirable! You have far more friends than you know. Honestly, would your prefer hanging with friends or creating photos and diving into software? We know your answer and it's the best way to live. You have intelligence, creativity, energy and talent. There's always time for friends later. You are living a great life, so please don't negate who you are. You never know how many people are your friends, but on the other side of the screen. I only accidentally discovered Color Grading tonight while researching macro photography cos I want to dive further into macros. You know we photographers, one thing leads to another. I started out photographing my art, then used that camera to photograph the Ramones when they first came to LA, then next thing I knew, I was shooting rock n roll and being published everywhere for many years. But in my heart, I always wanted to be more creative. And my art was always about colors and textures. I like Color Grading better than Split Toning. But I use a ton of software, so I don't know how much of this tool I'll use. Lightroom and tons of presets, just bought Nik suite, gotta update Topaz when I get back into it, haven't used Luminar yet, JixiPix and of course, the one that started it all, Photoshop (since 1990). Call me a creative software junkie! But I want to create images that that look painterly or surreal or I don't know yet. I just want to explore and see where my imagination, camera, lenses, lighting and software take me. But the more I know about all that, the more fun and possibilities when creating. Unlike you, I don't travel the world. So I do what I can from my home. PS I am so in agreement with what you said about human destruction of the environment. Another photographer talked about that in his fab macro vid I watched earlier tonight. Today? What do you call 2:30 in the morning? Still night? He emphasized the importance of not changing the land just to get that perfect photo (cutting branches, grass, whatever). Plus of course not disturbing nor harming the creatures we photograph. It's vital we photographers take ethical stances and always, always speak up. I'll end with the vital importance of Watermarking ALL OUR PHOTOS. I'd be a very rich woman if I were paid for all usage of my early punk rock photos. I could buy whatever camera, lens, lights, whatever, anytime. But alas, no. People assume I've made so much money cos they see my photos around. But sadly, people steal from books, fanzines and magazines, even documentaries. And yes, many give me a hard time when I call them on it. If they are a business, I might be compensated, but very little and rarely. So please don't post without watermarks! I know people can remove the watermarks, but the least we photographers can do is our best to protect our work. Plus protect the environment and the creatures who inhabit our planet. And beyond.
@AlexArmitage3 жыл бұрын
Jenny (I think?), Thanks for such a lovely comment. I think you responded to quite a few videos here and I'm not entirely sure I can even get to it all, haha. I do watermark all my portfolio work but like you said, if someone REALLY wants to steal it, they will. Thankfully they'll never have the raw images I do and it's a lot harder to print without those. Anywho I hope you are doing well and thanks again for such a wonderful comment.

Thanks Alex for the informative video - I just subscribed. One question and one comment. Firstly would you suggest doing the color grading before any HSL adjustment or after? And then I would rather there wasn’t background music over your voice; just to allow me to focus better on your wisdom!
@AlexArmitage4 жыл бұрын
I would always save the color grading for last, with that said though that doesn't mean you can't go back and adjust your HSL after you do your grade. Sometimes you might apply a color grade and a specific color becomes over saturated which you can quickly go in and fix with HSL. Someone else noted the music and I've corrected it in my latest video I hope. I try to use some background sound to help with my noise floor that's in my office. In my latest video regarding color calibration I use a much more mellow and instrumental sound that's barely noticeable hopefully. I do try to listen on both my studio monitors and headphones but sometimes things slip by my ears that others might pick up and I think within this video the highs of the song were just too much. I'd love for you to check out the calibration video and let me know if the background in that one is distracting what so ever. Thanks for the sub and comment Stewart!
@stewartlogie4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the quick advice on the order of making color adjustments. The music in the calibration video is much less intrusive - I viewed that one first actually, it’s what brought me to your channel.

Enjoyed the video as a follow on to the tone curve one from last week. While I would describe myself as an advanced Lightroom user, it's always interesting to see how other people use it to unlock its true potential. I honestly don't think you need the background music though as your content is compelling enough.
@AlexArmitage4 жыл бұрын
Firstly thanks for even taking the time to comment. Was the background music too loud? I typically throw on some to help with noise floor and push it way down in loudness. I also check on both my speakers and headset and thought that balance was good. Like I said it's mostly there for the reverb in my office and noise.
@wilderberryphotography11224 жыл бұрын
@@AlexArmitage It's probably more personal preference than the music being too loud. When I watched your video about the tone curve, I didn't feel there were any particular issues with the audio on that. I don't recall you using background music on that one to disguise the reverb or noise. I have Genelec M040s which are studio monitors for Pro Tools, so that might have accentuated the music a little more for me than the average KZbin viewer. I think your content is compelling enough and the delivery is engaging, and I personally just found the music distracting and unnecessary. As I said, it's probably more personal preference. I didn't mean this to sound critical as I found it a great overview and it encouraged me to go and experiment with both tools, which are probably under-utilized compared to how I leverage the rest of Lightroom.
@AlexArmitage4 жыл бұрын
I actually forgot music for that video haha. You have nothing to apologize for at all. This is the type of feedback I need and love! I tend to put that background music on during a tutorial just because there's pauses or simply some noise floor in the background, my dogs snoring, or something. I haven't treated this room and it's hardwood so I know the reverb and quality isn't perfect either. Not sure what the right balance is, maybe just a more mellow sound that doesn't have as much highs so it's barely noticeable to anyone listening.
@Mel-953 жыл бұрын
I tried the "scrubbing zoom" but could not get it to work in Lightroom with my Magic Mouse. Is a mouse scroll wheel required? Thanks for the introduction to color grading.
