Not sure what is going on with the grey areas in the video. Something to do with KZbin's compression as it's not in my original video. Going to see if I can do anything about it. Apologies if it's distracting.

@@AlexArmitage Question: do you have any lessons regarding the proper use of the “image size”? It gets so confusing…! For example why when resolution is smaller… like 72ppi… the pic can be printed bigger. But if I use 300 ppi is usually good for smaller prints: magazines… I think you know what I mean… Also the resample option… dimension… etc, etc… man if you could explain that the same way you explain your other lessons, it would be amazing!!!!! ;D. Ok, hope you can do it! Best!!!!

@@wildpatagoniafilms16 So PPI/DPI is different for print and your screen. In terms of screen resolution if you are have image that's 1000x1000 resolution and a DPI of 150, it exactly the same as an image with 2000x2000 resolution and a DPI of 75. Print is a different ballgame haha.

Hi Alex - your videos are more appreciated than I can put into words. They've helped me take a whole new approach to editing and for that I'd like to say Thank You! I wanted to ask something I haven't been able to get an answer to; I notice most amazing photographers have a sort of sheen to their images, it's like a gloss and it just elevates the quality of their image. I'm not sure if this is post or the gear. I can't seem to get that look on my photos. Current Gear: EOS R with a 24-105 F4. If you have any ideas/thoughts, I'd greatly appreciate that. Thanks!

Hi Alex, thank you for the great tutorials! I have a quick question about your Main light source - the first one you added as a radial filter, you added it to look like light was coming from the top left, I'm curious why you chose to light from that side? (only asking to understand better how to approach this kind of work because to my eye the dominant natural light was coming from the right... - would love to know your thought process behind this, if you're happy to share!! Thanks in advance!! Melanie
@AlexArmitage4 жыл бұрын
Melanie, to be completely honest you could likely put it in the top left or top right and your results wouldn't be much different. I likely put it top left because I think the sun was in that general direction but don't think it really matters all too much for the end result, at least in this picture.

Great tutorial. Just one question. Since you are adding a light source to an image taken in the natural world, I would guess you want to mimic light coming from the sun. In that case I would say the light at the top is the same amount as the light on the bottom, or.....
@AlexArmitage4 жыл бұрын
Technically you might be correct. But artistically you're just trying to replicate fading light into your scene. It's definitely not an exact science. Especially considering your adding 2 dimensional light into a 2 dimensional image but trying to make it look 3 dimensional. hope that makes sense? lol

Used this technique on a photo from today in the Peak District, UK. Had gorgeous light and colour in out-of-photo scene so didn't need to do much, but I thought the first edit made the tree a little too silhouetted and dull as it was one of the main subjects. Using the radial filter on the tree's range of luminosity made it a little more interesting I think. imgur.com/a/kBK49J7 *not sure though. I love a nice winter tree silhouette. Might need to rework it a little to make the transition a little less harsh..

A minimal shift that doesn't look unnatural. I'll say you might be deciding over details that only you will notice though. the struggle of editing :)

Fantastic video. I normally use the brush to burn and dodge, but the radial filter does a better job. The before and after is amazing. I like your presentation style. It is calm and measured. You have a nice speaking voice. I am not a big fan of the nose piercing. It makes me slightly uncomfortable to look at it, so I just look elsewhere. Fortunately, most of your video is the LR screen.

Alex, do you even realize you are putting the light most often on the wrong size of those ridges? You should have placed your main "light" a the bottom, given the orientation and PoV of your landscape.
