This was the best ending to any Columbo for me. Staging the dig, knowing that nothing would turn up. Realizing that this guy was trying to trick him with these classes about tombs/burying bodies and KNOWING he would go back after the dig to dump the body. Lieutenant Columbo is my hero.

You know I love Columbo. So much, that I imported the blu-ray version of the whole series. Ironically, you can only get this from Japan. Apparently Columbo is huge in Japan and the Japanese decided to remaster them to blu-ray. Go figure. Cost me $500 back in 2012. It's a beautiful set presented in a cigar box design. Literature in is Japanese and the title menu is too. But it's easy to figure out.

Then the scurfball jackasses who were following me around polluted the environment with their asshole takeover. I tried ti have a little garden. The derelects hosed raw sewage to it. It was only supposed to be a transition but turned into the trashy environment that arrogant people are want to do. Men were being pimped at me. Stalking me. I suffered severe emotional damage. Just ask Doris Day. Oops, Betty. She fled when she found out what the trash were doing to tge place.

Not it isn't that he likes to play cat and mouse. The thing is just because he knows someone is guilty doesn't mean he can prove it. There is an audio drama called Black Jack Justice that has an episode that brings that up. There was a crime boss that thought The PI's were investigating him and they went to talk to the police about it. The Lieutenant had a couple boxes full of files pulled for them to see. It was full of what they knew about the crime boss. The problem was as much as they knew about the man's crimes they couldn't prove a single thing.

@@bonnie_gail True. One thing, though, that people forget about flying is that until deregulation--late 70s--flying was quite expensive. In a sense, it was like a fancy restaurant. Then it became McDonalds.

Two actors more concerned in dialogue and performance than being aware the blackboard hasn't been properly wiped! And can't someone with a car glove compartment full of country and western songs not also listen to classical music or any other music on radio?!

I watched all épisodes of "Colombo" on french TV when I was a young kid first time in thé 70's and this one is my favorite. Pls, note ... I think Patrick O'Neil was an excellent actor and remarquable as an architect in this épisode. About "bureaucratie" , it's the same problem every where and every time in the world about "construction building" .

columbo's success is based on the fact that none of his suspects ask for a lawyer. if they did columbo would not solve a single case

It’s hubris. Usually the suspects are so sure of themselves that don’t feel the need to lawyer up. They’ve committed the perfect crime and now all they gotta do is play it cool... 😎
@MrK623

Part of that, is because they are never arrested. He wants them to be free to make mistakes trying to cover up the crime. What do you want a lawyer for? You're not a suspect, you haven't been arrested. Asking for a lawyer would only make them look guilty. A murderer who is playing like they are innocent is not going to leave town. They have to keep up the pretense. All of these killers are upper class, elitist, rich snobs. Who all think they are smarter than this disheveled, bumbling cop. Most of them begin to realize he is much smarter than they first thought. But by then it's too late.

Only in television; In real life, a professor would never tolerate a detective intruding into their classroom and then asking questions that a suspect doesn't have to answer.
@raistlin3462
@raistlin3462 3 жыл бұрын
In real life if a detective asks you questions is time to: 1) call a lawyer. 2) quote your rights. 3) shut your mouth until the lawyer arrives. But that would be boring in TV.
