I thought I gave the Army the best of me…. Came out a bit broken. Got even more broken after the FACT but just takes some time and work arounds to get back at it. Muscle memory is insanely efficient. I’m in far better shape than I was before breaking my femur TWICE. I can’t run like I used to… who tf needed to run an 11 min two mile idk but I did so I can live with what I’ve got.

I've ruptured my quad tendon, I've got a couple of bad disks in my neck, and a couple of really bad disks in my lower back. The disks in my lower back had me thinking "if this is what my life is going to be like, I don't want to be alive". I said f*ck that, I don't want to be broken anymore and I'm not going to make excuses. I wasd also addicted to several substances at the time. I learned to work around my challenges and, at 47, I am in the best shape of my life. My career is light years ahead of what it was and my mental health is such that I have the strength to pick other people up when they are struggling and raise 2 rebellious and stubborn teenage boys. When I was 25, I was stronger and faster, but my diet was sh*t and I was drinking and using drugs and smoking. I have days where it's very hard to get out of bed or where I'm miserable all day. And sometimes those days turn into weeks. So I double down on my PT exercises and push through it because I don't want to be a quitter or a weakling. If you've already decided you are a "physically broken man", then that's what you are. I don't know your personal situation and I would never judge you, because I've been there. But it can always be better. Pat Mac could say the same thing. Lots of injuries and I guarantee he has plenty of days when he's hurting like hell. He's a certified badass, but he's a human, just like you and me. He could say "I'm a broken man" and then get busy dying. But he's convinced himself that isn't the right path and so can you. Change your mindset to "I used to be a broken man, but I'm going to put in the work to change that" or just "I am a strong man who CAN overcome my challenges" and watch yourself grow into something that you never thought you could become.
@gunsandcommissions2 жыл бұрын
@@hailtothe_rooster1572 gets it. Stop thinking in terms of "I've got to be the athlete I was 20 years ago" and think in terms of small, achievable goals like "I am going to the gym 2x a week and will walk my dog for 2 miles, 3x a week." Start small and celebrate those little wins. Who cares what anyone else thinks or is doing or capable of. Prove to yourself that you can do it and f*ck the detractors or those who think you should do more. To walk a mile, you've got to first take a single step. Then another. Then another. You don't just jump to the end in one stride.

My drumkit instructor had a saying…”If you are playing things you already know how to play, you aren’t learning, you’re self-medicating.” Same principle here. Going to the gym, going thru the motions, spending time and getting very little to show for it. I did that for years…so much wasted time. Cross training for strength and acceleration, endurance and durability is the way to go.

“Changing things up”! YES. My sensei in Japan would tell us after a day of training, “ok, tomorrow we will focus on X weapon system, so bone up on that and prepare for X weapon day (e.g., sword, kusarigama, or short staff).” Then, when we got to the dojo, he’d say, “today it’s judo day!” TOTALLY FUCK with us, to keep us off guard and changing things up! Good job, Sensei, in keeping us on our toes, or actually off-balanced and ready for anything…..

SGM Pat I'm wondering if you ever read the book "Natural Born Heroes". It is very much about this subject. Traces the evolution of natural fitness of the Greek heroes (think Spartans, Achilles,Hercules) through the training of WW2 OSS agents and Greek Resistances fighters. Fairborne and Sakes (developers of the famous knife) were practioners of natural movement (parkour) before it had a name. They would climb thru the manor house that was their hq like it was a kids jungle gym. And relative to your topic is the authors study of our bodies facia (the elastic bands that hold our muscles together) It talks about how speed and quickness come from the facia not the muscles and that those transverse movements (ska natural movement) build that speed, power, and quickness.
@chrisconversino62942 жыл бұрын
P.S. if anyone is concerned its a dull physical science book, woven through the book is the story of the Greek resistance fighters and OSS agents kidnapped a Nazi General out of his own bed.

Got a lil home gym and I train about 6 days a week covering all points: power, strength, hypertrophy, speed, quickness, with endurance and flexibility/mobility added in.
