I ran my own building company and I Sacked a plasterer because he was treating an apprentice like shit, he was making him mix the plaster with bike cog welded to a bit of 4 inch steel pole even though there was a cordless drill with a proper mixing pole. The excuse the plasterer used was what if we can’t get power from anywhere he needs to know how to mix it by hand (only difference between mixing it by hand or with power is it takes longer by hand) and we didn’t have power tools when I did my time so why should they have them. You don’t want people like that working for you making a kids job harder just because that’s how he had to do it when he was training, it’s not the kids fault cordless drill weren’t around when his old ass was been trained.

Regardless of all the free market capitalist arguments in these comments, bottomline is that if you would be *embarrassed* for people to find out how much you pay your opener, you should be paying them more.
@stellarscrubj8 ай бұрын
Exactly. That's the market place at work. Not everyone is will support a guy with shoddy morals like Theo, so even if it's for selfish reasons only (retaining fans), Theo is incentivized to pay more. If a Walmart somehow found a way to pay their employees less than minimum wage, the market would force them not to because the bad PR would cost the company more money they they're saving. If it's true, Theo made a business decision and thought either he wouldn't get caught, or the money from openers he saved would be more than the hit he might take from bad PR.

I hope one day people realize how important Luis J Gomez is the comedy when you look at a lot of these big artist when they were first starting, Lewis was the first one to give them podcast and exposure and on multiple occasions when the people he helped out wanna leave their contract with his podcast network early to go to Patreon and make more money. he lets them go no problem every time
@boogityhoo8 ай бұрын
Absolutely. Luis is such a knowledgeable and selfless guy and literally just wants to see other comics succeed and it doesn't matter if they end up becoming more famous than him such as Shane Gillis. It's crazy , even though I do understand a lil bit, that so many comics refuse to associate themselves with him and even the other Skanks and the most common excuse I hear is because of how unfiltered they are but the fact so many ppl can't look past that and they always dismiss how much he truly cares about the entire comedy scene.
@blopblop3338 ай бұрын
Luis gives everyone a platform because he wants to leech off of them. Luis isn't important at all. He just wants to take advantage of anyone he can and make money off of them while not paying his employees for doing their job. If Luis died tomorrow, nothing negative would come of it. LOS would end, which it probably should have years ago...and Big Jay would go on to do another podcast with people who are actually funny. Every time I’m like “oh cool, so and so is coming to town I would love to see him/her” & I go to get tix the prices are like $100+ a pop then you gotta factor in a bunch of a bs service fees or whatever imaginary fees they keep making up but I know that part isn’t their fault but still I’m not paying $200-$300 (2 tix) to see anyone for one hour of my life to sit so far away that I’m still watching them on screen bc if you want even halfway decent seats you’re gonna end up paying 300-500$ or more (halfway decent seats to dave chappelle were like 2x my rent) I’m sorry but that’s ridiculous!

You gotta buy the tickets from the venue The comedian is going to be at or go directly to that comedians website to buy tickets. I’ve seen Bill Burr, Nate Bargatze, Jim Norton, and a few more, the only one that cost $100 was Jim Norton but I bought those tickets through Ticketmaster. Most of them charge $80 and maybe $100 at the most. If you buy from Ticketmaster or any third party website selling the tickets they jack up the prices like crazy. Shane Gillis was talking about it on a recent podcast, he charges the least he can, I think it’s like $80 at the most and people were paying over $350 on Ticketmaster. Like I said you gotta go to the comedians website or the venue they’re going to be at to busy the tickets. But there are some comedians that do charge ridiculous prices.

@@angelgjr1999 Um, I mean, that depends a bit more on location and what one would constitute a "mansion". Some places are relatively dirt cheap whereas others are ludicrous - a place with no life could offer a truly idealistic mansion in every sense of the word for ~300K vs a basic af 2 room townhouse could cost 600K+ in a thriving area lol Tho idk what standups you're thinking of, given multiple homes is still the exception for that branch of career. The ones who can fly themselves or others private at whim likely have at least one really nice house with good acreage even in expensive neighborhoods. Most likely they also have 1-3 smaller places they frequent often for work, eg condos in LA or NYC. 100% not cheap stuff, but idk where "multiple mansions" could be feasible unless it's someone like Rogan or Whitney whose wealth isn't from their standup.

Depends on the venue and whatever service they use to sell the tickets. Service fees usually cost $20+ extra, and there are taxes as well. Generally, Arenas will start $100 even in less optimal seats, centers $40, and clubs have the most flexibility and could even be free. Some services also fluctuate the prices depending on the current interest and time until the event, and it's one reason the more decent standups (ethics) insist fans join their mailing list so they're able to get the prices the headliner is charging; presale is far cheaper. And there are always scrappers, albeit trickier depending where, who upsell always lol

@aSinisterKiid8 ай бұрын
You might be paying to see Theo, but Theo is asking someone to work for him to begin the show. So Theo (Or any other comic) should be paying their employee a fair salary. Being a comedian isn't like working a blue collar job where you would say $100 for an hour of work is a great deal. Comics base their jobs around filling seats and ticket sales. So when you have a place that seats 500 people or 1000 people and you're asking them to pay $100 for that ticket, it shouldn't be a stretch of the imagination to pay your employee a % of your net profit for the night. You obviously don't need to pay the guy 50% of what you made that night, but even 5% of the ticket sales would be $2500-5000 bucks. So if a guy is getting $100 bucks instead ? You aren't even paying the guy enough to cover his flight or his gas money to get to the job. That's bull.
@jonathanhardy79688 ай бұрын
@@aSinisterKiid He's giving him exposure to an audience that otherwise would have never heard of him. That is a perk. 100$ for an hour of work is great. Some people dont make 100 dollars in 8hrs, so I dont see the argument there. He's also and adult and can say no, but he obcviously saw the benefit of taking the gig. Comedians are overpaid for there "job" to begin with. So are actors, athletes, and most white collar workers. Put your name as the headliner and see if you fill 100 seats let alone 1000
@aSinisterKiid8 ай бұрын
@@jonathanhardy7968 Exposure doesn't fill your gas tank up or put food in your stomach. Exposure is a secondary benefit to doing a job and is never meant to be a form of payment to get around literally paying people money. It's a predatory tactic used by a person in a position of power to weasel their way out of paying someone actual money to come work for them. And you can't compare stand up to working a regular job where you get paid by the hour. Being a comedian is based around ticket sales and selling seats. So no, $100 is not great when the 500 seats in that building go for $100 each. Stop coming up with excuses to justify being cheap and remember that YOU wouldn't want to be treated like that, so don't accept it happening to someone else.

Leaving moral out of it, yea that’s not how any business operates. The reality is the big comment probably had 5 other guys willing to accept the gig. Why? Because the gig gives them access to a ton of potential new fans. If you’re a comedian trying to grow then $300 for 15 mins/2 nights is still an easy choice.
