This comic feels like an infinitely better version of the original Spider-Verse and Spider-Geddon events. I feel this keeps the heart and soul of the original show yet maturing it in such a smart way whereas Verse and Geddon took a fun concept and ruined it by making it way, WAY too dark and feels like a spit in the face to the fans. As of May 25 , 2020, the series has had 3 main writers: Kyle Higgins, Marguerite Bennett, and Ryan Parrott. As for illustrators, the book has also had 3 main artists and several guest artists. And current artist, Daniele Di Nicuolo has illustrated more issues of the book than Presetya.

Still though, that you got one of the guys who wrote the comics on board with this is really cool.
@spartaninthebox91014 жыл бұрын
As a "hardcore" Ranger fan, I quite enjoy the book. However, quite a few of us in the fandom were really over Tommy being shoved in our faces, in numerous areas of the franchise, for so long. Kyle Higgins, cool guy that he is, directly talked with the fandom via message boards and whatnot, before the book had come out. In one such instance, the topic of conversation came around to the fear that the book would be primarily Tommy focused, as many wanted to see the other rangers be better developed. He responded with something along the lines of "don't worry guys, it's not gonna be all Tommy all the time." To be fair, it isn't, but it's far more Tommy than a lot of us would care for. I like the book a lot, I really do, but so much of it is driven solely by him, that or Boom's OCs who they like to use over existing characters, but I digress. Hell, even during Shattered Grid, where Tommy is absent, it's still being driven by a different Tommy. Like they had the entire cast of every Power Ranger season at their fingertips to play with, but nuts to that we gotta get back to either seeing what future Tommy is up to, or talking about how much we miss regular Tommy. It's just a little frustrating when you're apart of a group of people, who have dealt with multiple decades of people constantly pushing Tommy to the forefront of everything, and when you finally get a medium that is unrestrained by any of the show's limitations, to get more of that is a little disappointing. It's still good, and probably the best thing PR has had in a while, but I still have my gripes with it. The current Power Rangers/TMNT crossover is just pure awesome though, no notes there!
@BarrelBob4 жыл бұрын
As a fellow long-time ranger fan, I agree with this 100%. I think a big reason the average person clings to Tommy so much is because the franchise never allows characters from other seasons shine. If it's not MMPR, it doesn't exist. Personally, I'd take RJ from Jungle Fury over Tommy any day.
@spartaninthebox91014 жыл бұрын
@@BarrelBob I feel ya man, and yeah Kung Fu Shaggy is cool lol. I feel like the biggest dropped ball, in terms of the comic, is actually Beyond the Grid. I was pretty excited for it, because unlike Shattered Grid, we were getting just a handful of returning rangers to focus on, which would hopefully lead to spending some time and seeing them further developed. I thought it was going to be like getting to follow what the Once a Ranger team did on their own. But turned out, if you weren't alt future Kim, or whatever the Solar Ranger's name was, you were a side character at best. I'm hopeful for that Time Force follow up they're doing. Much as I like Jen, she was not only the representative for TF in Shattered Grid, but got to do a good deal by hanging with the main cast. So I hope they focus just a little more on the other TF rangers. Fingers crossed they do something cool with Eric.

@kenjihirata68344 жыл бұрын
The story arcs have been consistently good...with the exception of "Beyond the Grid". Personally, I never cared about the appearance of Ellarien (Purple Solar Ranger) nor her background. Not to mention there were plenty of exposition that I could never dwell into. The main villain, the Praetor, was also dull. I also found it odd that Cam's personality was changed from the show as snarky to someone who cracks jokes even at inappropriate times (which fits Dustin more in Ninja Storm). The good things were Andros' brief moments with (relatively future) Karone, focus on Heckyl and how became the Dark (Energem) Ranger and all about the Ranger Slayer.

@pepergirl0014 жыл бұрын
It's really good despite the Tommy over saturation. I mean Power Ranger has a lot of interesting characters that can be explored, interesting possibilities (like this one) yet every thing seems to revolve around Tommy. I get it he's the face of the franchise but do something else with someone else. It's why I like the Ranger Slayer character a lot and why I found interesting the whole Zack angle that could have been taken. Now that last one seems like an interesting possibility to explore in the comics. If you do give the series a try I hope you enjoy it.

I know you didn't mention it in the video but I have to say that the 1969 Power Rangers went a bit too much into fanfic territory for me (especially the Green Psycho Ranger who had no business existing or being there (which is only made worse when Boom! decided to make him also the Green Supersonic Ranger)). I do appreciate the comic explaining where Terra Venture came from in a way that makes complete sense though.

Psycho Green was actually first someone's cosplay that Saban ripped off to make now "officially" to PR. Never cared for Green in general.

Thank you so much for covering this series! I've honestly been meaning to get into the Power Rangers comics for some time. I've been reading the TMNT series form IDW though, which I'd love to see a Comic Drake video on, or especially the Transformers comics from IDW. One of the things I was worried about was how much backstory or continuity I would have to catch up on, which I'm glad was addressed in the video, and what I would like to know if Drake ever gets around the the Transformers comics.

The new transformers comic is all new world with no previous history. You can jump in with issue #1/trade vol 1 and not be lost with previous continuity. It is slow and an ok series but you can jump in easy.

I love the comic, and the MMPR series on Netflix (as I am too young to have watched it when it originally came out) was really cool too, though it sucks that it doesn't actually end with the last episode

Wasn’t intended for an older audience. A better way to look at this is that it’s intended for the exact same audience but with a different tone and style. It’s like looking at the shows that aired beside it like animaniacs and batman tas. They’re completely different in tone and style yet are both intended and meant for the kids that watch them with the benefit of being universal to be enjoyed by audiences of all ages. It is only when we put labels and our fears of judgmental anxiety on age that we don’t realize this

If you like the idea of a super hero "monster of the week" show with actual character development, solid plot and honestly good visual effects for TV shows I recommend Kamen Rider. It's done by the same company that makes Super Sentai, the shows which Saban buys it's footage from. Even though it's supposed to be a kid's show since it airs on sunday mornings along side anime, it deals with stuff like death, grief, psychological things and at one time even a whole series based on drug addiction. If anyone is interested I seriously recommend Kamen Rider Build as an entry. It's recent, it has great characters, development and plot with also a very interesting premise. If you wanna start Super Sentai I'd recommend Samurai Sentai Shinkenger (which had it's footage and some plot points brought over for Power Rangers Samurai). It has a good ensemble cast that feels three dimensional AND has a lot of japanese cultural references which are explained in a way that you can understand things like how samurais and their vassals worked back in the day. Both these shows aren't currently available officially in the US, needing a fan-translation in order to watch it BUT Shout Factory released some seasons of Super Sentai like Kyoryuu Sentai Zyuranger, the original show that became Mighty Morphin Power Rangers here. Fair warning that Zyuranger is surprisingly dark with the shows first episodes having Bandora (Rita) kidnapping kids in order to sacrifice them for a ritual. Shit was wild back in the late 80s and early 90s in Japan.
