32:50 I'm about 7 years too late, but I thought I'd just put this out there. Evil Alfred is supposed to be a reference to the Outsider, a classic Silver Age Batman villain. He was a weird pale white dude with purple pants, he had super powers, and he usually masterminded plans for other people to fight Batman. He turned out to be a presumed dead Alfred. It was a whole thing, but it was a pretty cool thing.

I love the Trinity War and Forever Evil!!! and no, it was the Outsider who opened the Box, Pandora opened the box millions of years ago and unleashed the Seven Deadly Sins and it was shut again... Grid was already sentient at the back of Cyborg's mind/system and he was the one who sent information to the Outsider with the help of Atomica.... and please do Justice League Vol. 6!! That volume includes the aftermath of Forever Evil and the Amazo Virus Arc(which was pretty awesome)... The explanation for Mazahs powers can be narrowed down to the polar opposite of Captain Marvel and Black Adams powers. Where their powers are given to them by the gods, Mazahs does the opposite, and can take power from the gods (this being other metahumans). Thats my theory.

This was the first event comic I read once I started seriously reading comics. I thought it was awesome, that Jeff Lemire's Animal Man (which would be a cool back issues by the way)the Court of Owls were the storylines that helped me fall in love with comics. Say what you want about the New 52, but as a new reader it was pretty awesome for me to catch up pretty quickly with the titles I cared about. I love this show, I've went and read about every episode you've done, at least on the DC side, and your X-Men titles. Even if I don't always agree with you're opinion, I love the passion in your videos. P.S. Thanks for picking the stories for Superman that made him interesting to me (All-Star, Birthright, Kingdom Come).

This was my first DC book having grown up a marvel guy. Got the trade after this episode. I thought the writing wasn't as good in some places, maybe a lot of places, but the story itself and the action were so cool that it overshadowed that aspect of it. So one of my favorites of course

I really did like this whole story. It had all the big fights you want to see, but without the consequences since it's mainly villains fighting other villains. Plus you get all the crazy comic book stuff like pushing moons, love squares, and alternate realities. Good artwork also. I love your takes on the story and the well-deserved criticism of all the goofy plot points. How awesome was our seeing Yellow Lantern Batman for those 2 frames though, right?!

6 years old, I know, but I just reread this today and felt like looking up this episode. Ultraman does actually address the issues mentioned around pushing the moon infront of the sun. He gets back from doing it, sees the damage from tides and quakes and basically goes "Huh. I didn't think about that. Whatever". And then later it's mentioned that he has a schedule for pushing the moon back over the sun when they move out of sync enough to start bothering him.

The moon would never orbit the earth. If it's perpetually blocking the sun, it's orbiting the sun. Very very similar to Earths Orbit. I'm a Moon rotation specialist.

So here's the thing. I was correct in the sense that if an object was orbiting earth with a period of 365 days while the earth was moving around a central point with a period of 365 days, then the object could be placed such that it is always in between earth and the central point, and it would still still be "orbiting" the earth in the sense that it would be bound to Earth's gravity. The problem with this formulation is that it only makes sense if the earth was being pulled along a fixed track around a massless source of light we called "the sun". Obviously this is not the case; the earth orbits a central point because the Sun is a gigantic mass that pulls on it. Since the Sun pulls on the moon too, if you slowed the moon's orbit of the earth to the point where its period is 365 days, as I speculated, the moon would be very far from Earth and the Sun's gravity would dominate it, so yes you'd have to say it's in orbit of the Sun, not the earth. If you wanted the moon (or anything) to actually stay in front of the sun all the time, you'd have to move it to lagrange point 1, where the earth's gravity is balanced with the sun's. This is substantially farther from Earth than the moon currently is, so if you put the moon there it would not cover anywhere near the entire disk of the sun from the perspective of the earth. So no you can't blot out the sun with the moon, at least not for any longer than the duration of a solar eclipse (unless you were to keep pushing on it to hold it in place).

To clarify a bit more, if you tried to simply put the moon in orbit of the sun at the same distance from Earth that it is now (so that it's apparent size in the sky would cover the sun's disk) it would not work, for two reasons. First, if it's closer to the sun than earth but moving around the sun rather than the earth, the moon's period would be less than 365 days and it would gradually move forward in its orbit relative to the earths orbit and it would stop blocking the sun. Worse though, if you changed the moons speed and direction so that it was moving in roughly the same direction as eaeth at roughly the same speed, at the distance from earth the moon currently is, earths gravity would pull the moon toward it, at which point the crime syndicate would be the least of your worries.

I woud say if anyones interested tjat the best tie in to FE was Blight. It is way too long at something like 18 parts, but it actually contributed to the overall story by the end. Turns out the evil magic users from the syndicate were trying to turn all the magical heroes (besides Shazam for some reason), into magical WMDs to magic nuke the Anti Monitor when it showed up. So they had a plan, despite what Johns made it look like. This one focuses on Constantine, Zatanna and the rest of the JL dark though, so be warned if you wander in not knowing DC magic.

Arkham War was a very mixed tie in if anyone was curious. Bane trying to take the city and besting the Talons of the court was a neat idea, but the ending kind of ruined the entire story for me. In Court of Owls a single Talon was roughly a match for batman at his peak, but in the end of Arkham war he picks off like a dozen or so of them in like half a page. Then he fights Bane, who is in his own armored bat suit complete with a cowl and cape. I would recommend it, but go into it expecting batman to show up and declare he wins because hes batman.

Bane had all of Blackgate, the talon brigade, and whatever was left of his army. Even with Barbra and Dick beside him, that should have been a whole other miniseries of Bruce trying to take the city, no mans land style.

hakamhak JL was also a mixed bag. Johns goes into the backstories of the syndicate like we all don't know they will never mater again. Also he tires really hard to make Cyborg interesting, then he gets bored and throws him aside for the metal men. hakamhak I just didnt see anything above the standard dark mirror to the heroes stuff. Junkie evil Superman is novel, but he needed so,e characterization better than Im strong so im in charge junk. Owl Man is just Prometheus, Wrath, or any other dark Batman archetype you wish to name. Just his name is interesting and even that is very similar to the twist from court of owls. As for the dark trinity surviving, I just doubt it will come to anything. Superwomans baby is supposed to be the key to something, but so is power ring and i have no faith the three of them will alter anything. Cyborg should have never been on the league. I am fairly new to DC but i cannot except that he was the most interesting minority they have to bear. Jaime Reyes the Blue Beetle is far more interesting as a character based off what I have read of Victor. As it is now, Vic is just there to ferry them around via boomtubes like a chauffeur.

My favorite component of the storyline is Ultra Man moving the moon so he doesn't get weak.

+jabezcreed Which makes even less sense when you think of the fact that in order to move the moon he would have to have flown into space where he would have been even more greatly exposed to the sun than on Earth due to the lack of an atmosphere, especially when you consider that he shriveled up once Black Adam and Sinestro move the moon back into proper orbit.
