Hey Bella, just saw your comment, you don't need to have any degrees or certifications to personal train or give advice (although it is recommended to have at some point). If i could make a recommendation though, instead of selling personal training, focus on selling results or transformations. Focus on a specific audience and solve a specific problem. hope this helps you out and if you have any questions, please ask away.

I’m in the uk and currently doing my level 2&3 which I know are just entry level to start, and I know it’s a tough industry to join, but, I find myself in a situation where my career of 20 years is coming to an end, and fitness is the only other thing, aside from music that I could see myself doing, I go the gym 4-5 times a week myself, so watching sone of your videos is quite helpful, as I’m going into an industry as a nobody and need to make a career out of it, scary……

Starting out as a trainer is pretty tough but it’s very possible to make a career out of it! Be ready for a slow start and to be outside of your comfort zone for a good while in the beginning. If you can push through that awkward first year and improve a little bit each day you’ll succeed in the long run. Best of luck to you!

6:54 I just rated all of these for myself as if I were the client... And I rated them from bottom up 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. Postural Improvement is most important to me because I think of it as the foundation; if it's screwed up, so is everything else. Mobility is next because I'm stiff, crunchy, and tight all over the place and if I can't move - it doesn't matter how ripped or strong I am. Muscle Gain is third because I won't get it optimally unless I have the first two taken care of, but also third because more lean muscle means more Strength (my number four) and (five) a higher metabolism to 'burn' more (fat) Weight. Am I a nerd? Or just think I'm a nerd but really don't know wtf I'm talking about? But if I would have rated them correctly, I think I'd say they all rate a "1" because all of them are really important to me. Also, question: at 8:15 - is your phasing system from bottom up? Stability first and phasing up to Total Body Lean the 49th week?

I’m looking to apply for a personal trainer. I’ve never been to the gym so I don’t know how to use the equipments or the correct postures so I don’t hurt myself. I’m not looking to lose or gain anymore weight. I want to remain around 50-56kg. My main goal is to lose upper body fat especially my shoulders and waist and grow muscle on my lower body whilst improving my endurance and flexibility. I mainly do cardio at home without gym equipments but I haven’t been consistent lately cause of school etc. Idk if I should get a personal trainer. Money wise I could afford 2 times a week only depending on the trainer. Also I’m more looking at long term and want to grow my glutes slowly over time. I’m pretty knowledgeable when it comes to nutrition, it’s just that having guidance and a personal workout plan would help me get started as well as boost my confidence and discipline to be consistent

I have a planned workout I use for consults that I adjust as needed to the individual. It’s very simple, basic exercises that give me an idea of how they move and also are somewhat simple to get right form wise. For example, rows either on a cable machine or single arm, bar push-ups, a lateral band walk, squats, etc. Exercises that can be progressed or regressed as needed.

Do you do the free workout the same day as the consultation? Why do you feel someone on the fence should try a session if you already gave them a free one? Thanks for the kind words! I’m glad you’re finding everything helpful! We do offer a free workout on the first day/consultation. About 2/3s of people do it and the other third usually just wants to sign up and get into the actual program. I’m not sure I follow your next question. A free sample workout is just part of the consultation. There are no other free workouts. Yes, a single session should definitely cost a lot more than a session in a package. Honestly explained, simply straightforward, methods that a previously successful trainer developed and uses. This is potentially one of those dumb questions, but It would really help me understand what to do; can you give a few examples of what you mean by 'professionalism' in this context? Is it something like being proper in speech or explaining thoroughly or having the right information or looking 'professional' or something else or all of the above? Hey Jeff, Thankyou for the helpful video. The other vids I checked were also very valuable :). So...I am currently working as a freelance personal trainer in my local gym. I am thus responsible to find my clients. My current strategy is to introduce myself to members, talk to them about things like their fitness goals and then I offer a free session to get some advice about exercises, nutrition for their goals. I currently send them a list of questions to answer and then we plan the session and after the session we talk about how the session went and if they would be interested to take PT. What I want to know, is this a good strategy or would you do it differently? I really struggle with my sequence of events right now. Things like: Should I ask these people after the first encounter if they want to have a free session? Should I send a question form to them before this session? In your consultation, you ask if people have barriers and when they answer that question, you'll give them information how you'll help them overcome these barriers. Can I ask this question? The people I approach in this way are not necessarily looking to buy PT, because I approached them and they did not come to me... I hope that you see my thought process here, haha.. Could you maybe draw a 'timeline' for me? Like: first you talk to people, then you ask them if they want a session, then do the session etc. I hope you understand my question ;')...Thanks in advance!
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation Жыл бұрын
I would personally rework this a little bit. So, the first step should be a face to face consultation. During that time, you’d go over all of the things I’m guessing you do in your question form-goals, history, barriers to success, etc. This should be a conversation where you both connect with the client, make it known you understand their goals and show them the value you may provide them. At this time, you’d also go through a detailed health history and required paperwork for training. At the same time as the consultation, or another time, you could offer them a sample session. You don’t have to do this but it’s certainly helpful. I usually do this as a shortened session just to give them a taste of what a session might look like. I very much explain that this is just a sample, their programming would be more specific to them should they sign up. At the end of the consultation/workout, you could then ask if they have any questions and if they’d be interested in coming back in and seeing packages/pricing. By this time, you should have a pretty good idea of whether or not someone is interested in signing up. Explain pricing if necessary and let them tell you what they want to do.

@@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation thankyou very much! Besides, I was wondering what I should 'promise' the person what they get when I approach them? I am talking about the free session I offer. Because right now, I am not yet in the position that people come to me and be like 'hey I want you to be my PT'. Right now, I have to get out there (in my gym) and talk to people.

I am seeking out as much info as I can so I can really help people reach their goals. I am just wondering, how do you go about discussing nutrition? Any advice would be super helpful! Thanks again for the video :)

Thanks for the feedback! What kind of advice you can legally give to people on nutrition totally depends on where you live. If you’re in the USA look at 6:05 in the video. That should give you an idea of what you can legally do. If you’re not in the USA you’ll probably have to do a little more research on what you can do.

Hey there, I just saw your comment and wanted to give you some advice if you don't mind. If you can charge by card I recommend it (especially if you are doing online training). Also, seeing how you just got into the fitness profession last year, try to focus on solving a specific problem for a specific type of person. This will allow you to produce better results and increase your value. Hope this helps and any questions, ask away.

@@ebonyhalfacre_fitness4262 Yes of course. Think about this, if I were to ask you, "what problem are you solving?" what would your answer be? Would you even have an answer? See, you don't want to sell "personal training," you want to sell a transformation or a solution to a problem. Does that make sense? If not let me know, maybe I can jump on a call with you and see if I can offer more clear advice for you.

Hey I have a question say for example you meet a client while they working out and you offer them a free workout should I do a consultation and all the steps after I do the free workout.
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation 4 жыл бұрын
Ya in that case I would still take them through the sit down portion of the consultation separately. I wouldn’t do a workout with a potential client without first having them fill out the PAR Q, Health history questionnaire, and informed consent though. If you do a workout with them and somehow, they get injured or anything else, without those forms being filled out first you’re liable for damages. So make sure that you protect yourself.

Yup the consultation is the initial meeting where we go over goals, do health history stuff and then do a shortened sample workout. I do their assessment in their next appointment assuming that they sign up for a package.

The informed consent it basically just a waiver that says if you get hurt training with me, I’m not liable, unless I do something really stupid. The Health History Questionnaire and PARQ are both required waivers too but they’re more strait to the point and just checking boxes. Again, in the USA all three forms are necessary.

Hi !! Love all the information and well presented . 1) I go to client's homes , I did with affluent market . I do phone consultation before doing an assesment . My consultation is always free. Even when I trained people in their homes I would still offer the consultation for free. Tbh it’s probably one of those things that would work either way, free or charged depending on how you frame it though. They would be charged for their next session for sure though. I would charge anywhere between $1.00 to $1.50 per minute for training in an affluent area. In really affluent areas you may even charge a bit more. I would also charge a little extra on top of that for a travel fee. Hope that helps! Thanks for the support!

Hi there, I'm studying online for my PT exam (as I have no other financial option) and I am still confused about some things, for example: at which point do you talk about the nutrition part, motivation - do you do that at the screening or after the fitness tests when you do the goal setting (it makes more sense at the goals because we were taught the screening is about clearing them for exercise, but since they also a the general an lifestyle questionnaire there it confuses me a bit.) Also, how does the single-leg squat assessment compare to the OHS and when do you do the push/Pull assessment and single-leg squat? (I was taught you always do the OHS unless the client can't). What exactly does the V02 max number mean to you as a trainer a how does it influence how the person will be trained. Lastly, when you o screening you o the PARQ, General, Lifestyle and Medical Questions, but I am unsure what to do with the info - PARQ as far as I can tell identifies major signs and symptoms an you send them for clearance an the medical form can tell of further signs or symptoms, but what about the risk screening (HR, BP, BMI, WHR), your not gonna send the client for clearance for smoking or having a sedentary life (Do you just send them for the bigger risks eg high BP or HR - I mean what does it mean for me as a trainer if they have for example 3 risk factors?). Thank you for the videos so far. I find them very helpful in terms of the practical flow of things an the way to talk to clients.

Hopefully your studying is going well! I'm sure it is! -I talk about nutrition through the entire consultation. I talk about it most during short and long term goal setting and of course the full nutrition section of the consultation, which is about 2/3s of the way through the sit down portion of the process. -We talk goal setting and motivation through the entire consultation process. More of it specifically happens before the physical portion of the consultation, but goals should be talked about the entire time because they're seeing you and potentially paying you to help them achieve a goal. -I'm not sure I understand your question about the single leg squat and OHS. I have all of my clients, who can do an overhead squat, do it. I also have my clients due multiple different single leg movement screens as those are part of the functional movement screen that I use. These tests are done in the assessment after the consultation. There are multiple right ways to do all of this though. - VO2 max or maximal oxygen uptake will mean almost nothing to you as a trainer, unless you work in a laboratory. You wont have any accurate ways to test your clients VO2 max nor will they care about VO2 max. -In the United States you have to have your client fill out the PAR Q, Healthy History Questionnaire and the informed consent. If they say yes to anything on the PAR Q, you have to send them to a medical professional before doing a training program. As far the health history goes, if they present any heart, lung, or other dangerous potential symptoms/problems, they should consult with a doctor before beginning a training program. Good Questions! Let me know if you have any more! I'm glad that you're finding them helpful!

@@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation Thank you! For me ot seemed like the single leg squat is like a more zoning down of the muscles and would be better than OHS but I understand now you do both.
