Computer hardware itself is really amazing. I am obsessed by how hardware works & how everything works together to form a functioning computer capable of general purpose computing. Like you can do essentially anything with now standard pieces of hardware & you can mix & match said pieces & for the most part they just work. Computers are such amazing bit of technology.

When configuring FTP clients and servers you have to set a range of tcp ports, either on the client side (active mode) or the server side (passive mode), so they can communicate. I used to think that those ports served as the medium for the data transfer, but it seems that I was wrong... what does their actual function is?

I'm watching because I CANNOT remember the ports and their functions. I'm taking classes for the A+ exams at a community college because I had no knowledge prior. But the hardware class is so poorly constructed and the instructor barely ever teaches. The OS class had a much better instuctor, and I have that part down. I am losing focus now, however. I feel like I should give up! I need help!
