I just wanted to throw my opinion on the pile- but I never take steady body off. Having ADHD (or ADD, I'd have to go through hell to figure out since I was diagnosed when I was a kid) games in 3rd person really, really bother me and I often can't adjust to them at all, hollow knight was a little easier on me because it put me in the middle of the screen and usually didn't slide me off to the sides without folllowing suit. There's a lot of projectiles and moving parts to keep an eye on, alongside my health and soul and the buttons and where my hands are, but I can manage that. The art-style of the game also helps, the enemies and NPCs are all always moving, they pop nicely and they have very little detail by comparison to the faded, intricate backgrounds, so I can keep an eye on them- but I still struggled a lot very early on. I noticed eventually that I got knocked back every time I hit something, and that's what was killing me so often. I didn't have the processing power left in my walnut brain to keep track of that, and so as soon as I saw steady body, I put it on and it has never left my side since.

quick slash is a pretty sensible win, quick slash benefits spell focused builds by letting you hit faster, aka getting more soul, but shaman stone doesn't really do much for nail focused builds, so quick slash is a lot more versatile in that regard. also quick slash is very useful for platforming but people generally dont use spells that much outside of bosses from what ive seen

I’m proud of quick slash. I really figured shaman stone would make it to the end by a land slide but I guess I kinda get it. Like for starters you need to get soul to even *use* shamans, and how do you get soul? You hit things, a lot. So I can see the ranking. Also rip dream shield.

I used to use steady body all the time, but eventually I got used to using upslash to deal damage up close. But it's a cheap charm so it's pretty useful. Mark of pride is a great charm, but it's too expensive to put into a build most of the time.

I agree. I use it a lot while fighting some of the quicker bosses that don't give you much time to heal. It's a little expensive though, especially if you go for it's synergy with deep focus.

My favourite charm is Mark of Pride. The extra range helps me see the part of the boss I stab, letting me dodge easier. It also lets you get in a hit after a dodge that you wouldn’t get otherwise. It can also help about 3/4 of the games tougher platforming, especially that annoying Garpede bit in Deepnest. I wouldn’t be able to enjoy the game as much without it. Wayward compass is also really good.

weaver song is my favourite for literally every reason other than what it actually does. Its damage is bad but hey u get 3 cute spiders a cool loking charm with a nice description that is as close to silksong as we can get so i win.

Honestly it was kinda a good idea having grubsong and spore shroom against each other since both are best used for those that end up taking damage. I do love to heal a bit too much, but grubsong is arguably one of the best singe slot charm, especially for beginners

I'm kinda sad that shape of unn didn't get very far. I mean combine it with quick focus and you can dodge a bunch of attacks that you couldn't normally. It also gives you more healing opportunities other than the normal designated healing times

Tip: Grubsong + Grubberfly's Elegy + Deep Focus allow you to heal infinitely by just being damaged, it's a Godsend for the platforming heavy areas. Obviously, due to Grubberfly's Elegy being late game, it's mostly useful for places like White Palace.

I understand why Quick Slash was so favorited because I use it all the time and it feels weird when I take it off. You just get used to the increased nail strikes and (at least for me) have to re-learn how timing without the charm

Even the compass picks I like compass slightly better than Nailmasters glory. No lie, compass is my 16th favorite charm, glory is my 17th. And compass is way better than fury, come on.

I won’t lie, Fury’s kinda crap. Yeah, it gives you a HUUUGE boost on 1 HP. But that’s it’s downside. It ONLY triggers at 1 HP, at literally ANYTHING ELSE it’s just a dead two notches you could easily fill with something like Quick Slash, Longnail or Heart for a few examples of two-notches, or two 1-notches. On the other hand, Wayward Compass…well, it’s only good for one thing, and you’ll probably only need it for your first run, when you’ve no idea how to traverse Hallownest, making it easier to know where you are and how close to an exit you are. But when you start to get the hang of the layout of the game, you have no need for Wayward Compass and can take it off for literally any more useful charm, like Sprintmaster or something.

My 3rd favorite charm won. But heart is so underrated I grinded for it a long time and it was life saver for me. Sharp shadow, dash master arw good mobility charms and togheter even combat charms so I love em. Waver song is pretty good and deflinetly saved me from pain in nighmare king grim fight, it is not the most useful but combos whit sprint master and grub song it becomes really good.

It’s not really folks don’t use spells as much it’s just your nail is so much more reliable and forgiving. Plus more hits means faster staggers in boss fights. Also more hits equal more soul for shamans, I run both of them.

Quickslash is the one charm that a lot of people love that I don't really use. While in theory, the extra hits are good, in most boss fights, there are only select windows of time where you can get in for hits. While Quickslash allows more hits in those windows, I find that it isn't really a big enough impact to make Quickslash better than Shaman Stone or Mark of Pride, both of whichcan allow you to hit bosses outside of those windows (Shaman Stone especially). I also find that the versatility of mark of pride and strength outweighs the usefulness of quickslash.

Quick Slash is one of the better Charms in the game. Though, I’d have to argue that it’s only the case once you’ve sunk, I dunno, 50+ hours into the game and have learned every attack and opportunity. I personally put it in almost every Nail build, along with an increase to Nail length and most recently Strength. Even in Spell builds it has efficiency, you can mostly use it to gather most of the Soul you need to actually cast spells, a little quicker. Combine with Soul Catcher or Soul Eater (I prefer Catcher due to the notch cost) Shaman Stone and Spell Twister and you’ll be flinging spell after spell with barely any need for Nail hits. Overall, Quick Slash’s versatility makes it useful in every case if you’re good enough at the game.

one of the best charm combos ive found for the pantheons (as a casual player) is shape of unn, quick focus, deep focus, grubsong, and nailmaster's glory. the insane healing potential easily carries you through most bossfights, while nail arts deal most of the damage. but besides that i wouldnt use deep focus

Quickslash won for a reason: You can't cast spells without SOUL, and you adquire SOUL using the nail, so more nail hits = more SOUL = more casts Either way, use quickslash AND shaman stone

if you think the uses for deep focus are limited, that’s because you haven’t been using it right. it’s like weaversong, you have to use some other things for it to work. using quick focus, deep focus, and maybe shape of unn help with every boss except for ascended collector(you need strength) and all radiant bosses

Deep focus is limited BECAUSE of it needing it's synergies. The combo you mentioned costs 9 notches. It's really hard to slot into builds because it's so expensive, and the extra focus time makes it not worth it's cost most of the time. If there's enough downtime, a hiveblood heal followed by a normal focus will have about the same effect.

As far as Quick Slash vs Shaman Stone goes, Quick Slash deserves to be on top for its universal applications. No matter what build you're using (unless it's a really gimmicky passive build with minions running around), you are going to use your nail no matter what, even in spell builds because you need the SOUL. Quick Slash is weirdly one of the best SOUL generation charms because you're massively increasing the number of hits you can dole out, netting you an extra 11 SOUL for every hit you get in, which is much more than Soul Eater's +8 or Soul Catcher's measly +3. So even in a spell-oriented build, Quick Slash is a contender for your slot on top of your Shaman Stone and Spell Twister, especially because those builds have much more Charm Notch flexibility, and then obviously for nail builds it's an absolute must. Shaman Stone is amazing for spellcasters, but Quick Slash is amazing, period. (It's also better than Strength because 2 hits at 1x is objectively better than 1 hit at 1.5x)

Okay, in a game focused around nail combat, spells are more like spice than any kind of main attack. They supplement your damage when you're moving around or have to be in a position you can't use your nail. It also shares a pool with healing so you only CAN use magic if you're confident you're not going to need the Soul to heal yourself. Quick Slash is a massive DPS boost... if you can sit there and slash away at the enemies, which isn't very often. Like, Quick Slash may be the people's champion in popular vote, but it's objectively less useful than strength, as strength will increase the damage of EVERY strike landed. So instead of having a damage increase in the opportunities the boss allows yoy more than one strike, it's great, but Strength has no stipulation for its damage increase. Maybe some people can stay with the bosses enough to make it worth it, but I find myself dodging or preparing to dodge between strikes and any opportunity you do get to hit that fast are few and far between. Bosses even immediately gain consciousness when struck. Clearly, the game is built on a "strike and run" tactics instead of multiple strikes at once. So not only does the inherent natures of the game mesh better with Strength, a fair amount of skill needs to he applied to get a worthwhile benefit from Quick Strike. That's objectively more useful and not a matter of opinion.

You know what? For Sharp Shadow, one of the Third places is fine by me. And it's not just Shade Lord (I don't remember what that boss is), it definitely does help with the Hollow Knight/Pure Vessel and probably a few others. Sorry, I haven't played in a while. Definitely doesn't help with Pantheon of Hallownest being the ONLY THING LEFT on my 112% save... oh, And imo, Shaman Stone definitely should have won, it turns awesome and powerful spells into straight-up broken stuff, especially with the help of Spell Twister. Quick Slash is fine, I guess, but Shaman Stone is broken. but again, haven't played in a while.

Shade Lord isn’t a boss. It’s the form the Knight takes to beat the SHIT out of the Radiance, or Abs-Rad, at the end of each fight. Regardless, I mark down Sharp Shadow for it’s extra distance sometimes being…a little too much of a hindrance in platforming sections. The amount of times I’ve shade-dashed into spikes with the charm on is too many to count, I only see it having use in boss battles, and even then I still don’t use it.

The problem with alot of these votes is that they almost want to player to be good to use them. I'd take grubsong over steady body anyday. I get hurt and don't dps as much. Good players can easily do bosses on radiant difficulty but I was only lucky for the few I did. I wonder how newbies would vote. Also mark of pride versus steady body isn't comparable. Deep focus costs 4 versus steady's 1 notch. What about grubsong and unbreakable heart versus fragile strength? They both cost 3 notches.

Heres why quick slash is my fav charm. Shaman stone buffs spells and slash buffs nail, obviously. But the without the nail you can't get soul, which means shaman would be useless, and quick slash gets you soul quicker alongside doing more damage, which means that slash makes shaman work better, alongside with strength and soul catcher, thats a lot of damage and soul your getting for more damage. So this equals- Quick Slash is broken.

Lifeblood core got done so dirty. Late game geo farming isn't even affected, as it's done using Colo 2 which isn't enemy drops. Meanwhile Core is by far the best value lifeblood charm and has some use with tanking

For a bit there i was worried compass was gonna win. As a member of use spells gang, i wanted shamen to win, but i def wasnt expecting it to. Im with the masses, quick slash is the best charm, from an objective stand point.

So let's say there's a boss infront of you, in the time space of 5 seconds without the boss or you getting knocked back you get ____ amount of damage, same with unbreakable strength. I can't mod and I don't know how to get mods so can someone else please do this

Probably a weird format considering that you could have 3 charms all opposed to each other. Ideal way to do this would be a massive swiss tournament but that's far too time consuming.

Shaman stone is my favorite. As a newbie I didn't use spells much. Instead, my builds were highly focused on melee and health. Not only did this take a lot more grinding because I needed more mask shards, nail upgrades and charm notches, I was also spending more time in boss fights because of it. Dream boss health scales with your nail damage and your nail damage output is much lower than your spell damage output. Now that I am a more experienced player I go for spell builds and it makes a huge difference. I deal more damage when using spells, meaning I spend less time engaging with the same enemy, which in turn means there are less opportunities for me to get hit. Shaman stone and descending dark are an absolutely broken combo you can cheese a good chunk of the bosses and arenas with. As a bonus, shaman stone is obtainable very early on. I never unequip that charm, it's too OP. I spend a good portion of my playthroughs with just five charm notches and soul catcher and shaman stone equipped until I reach the Soul Sanctum and ditch soul catcher for spell twister. This build can carry you through the game if you're practiced enough and really only becomes useless when you reach the White Palace, because that's the only area where you need to focus solely on a platforming challenge to progress.

Soul Catcher is practically useless as it only increases your soul input by 3 per hit, while the base is 11, however Soul Eater gives 8 more per hit.

@@DoubloonGoblin Soul Eater also has a notch cost of 4. Soul Catcher is a good early game charm, but after you leave the Soul Sanctum it outlives its usefulness. Soul Eater's steep notch cost makes it not worth it, especially since Dream Wielder exists.

@@a.v.w.6453 If your build is Shaman Stone and Spell Twister it would be possible to get 4 extra notches to fit in Soul Eater, and if you get the last two you can also get Soul Catcher.

​@@DoubloonGoblin Why would I waste six whole notches to get 22 soul per nail hit when I can equip Dream Wielder for one? Soul Catcher is a good early game charm because it's one of the first ones you can find, it's completely in logic and you find it right next to a bench. There is no reason not to equip it when you get it because what else are you gonna do? Equip Fury? Sure, it doesn't net you a whole lot of soul per hit, but it adds up and you have nothing better to equip until later anyway. During a typical play-through I barely deviate from the Any% speedrun path until I get to the room where speedrunners do the explosion pogo near Claw. After getting that I usually make my way into City of Tears using City Crest, unlock the Storerooms stag, free Sly and go to Salubra, stag back from Crossroads to the city and make my way to Soul Sanctum. I clear the Sanctum with Shaman Stone (and Soul Catcher if I even bothered to get a fifth notch at this point) and pick up Spell Twister. Now I have no reason to equip Soul Catcher for the rest of the play-though because, if I have the notches, Spell Twister beats it easily. After this I go to Crystal Peaks, get C-dash and D-Dark, and then I go to Resting Grounds. I'll get Isma's Tear if I get too frustrated attempting the acid skip or just feel like taking my time and once I get lantern I can just beat the game. There is no need to grind for several charm notches unless I really want to.
