Just found this great little video. This it really how to do a comparison! You get to hear the real, instant differences. I was surprised at how some sounded; All of the high wattage ones distorted on the deep chords and all the heavy magnets just sounded woolly. The others were all pretty good but to my ears the G12M-70 really did the job! I was listening on an extremely good sound system. Cool riff too!

I remember throughout the 90's comparing the T75 with G12-65 and M70 Marshall cabs and always preferring the T75s. The T75 is reviled today but it was the most "normal" sounding rock speaker for the longest time.
@JimijaymesProductions3 жыл бұрын
I hate the G12T-75 but I think they do sound kind of vintage ish comparative to the modern speakers of the 80s. My feeling is they are a scooped slightly bland version of classic celestion (like the v30 is a slightly nasal and spiky, aggressive vintage celestion) but the more modern speakers (classic lead, g12-65, sounded quite different probably due to quite different manufacturing and trying to be more modern).

I love and enjoy these comparisons you do Johan!! How about 2 other type of side by side comparisons: 12" Celestions versus 10" Celestions. And, 2 or more speakers of different brands that have totally different tonalities. These Celestions in this shootout are fairly close in tonality (to my ears, anyway). It would be an eye opener to hear some more drastic differences for perspective.

Hello Johan from South Florida. Excellent video's from you, and very informative as well. I bought a 1983 JCM800 2204 Master Volume Marshall brand new, original owner. I bought the head leftover as everybody wanted the latest 1984 models, so lucky me I got an 1983. I did not want the 1960B cabinet, and that's all the stores stocked unless you got the stack, so I ordered a new cabinet then waited, and waited. Finally arriving in early spring 1985. The original speakers intact still working are Celestion G12T-75 Type T3760 with 1777 cones. These look like the G12T-65 with the vents, white label and truly sound amazing because they do not have a scooped sound. I can run these with all three tone controls near flat '5, or 50% with all of my guitars. I'm partial to the Les Paul 2014 Traditional Pro II 50's with this amp, but just ordered a brand new Jackson USA Adrian Smith San Dimas DK. I'm wondering if you've got a specific video with this combo, or your thoughts on the speaker. I am looking forward to your Eminence review as I also have a Marshall 1X12 JTMC12 sealed cab with the Eminence Patriot 'Texas Heat' speaker running from a Bugera G-5 (my cheap secret weapon). Sorry for the long post, just really interested on the history of the G12T-75 speaker with the vented rear. Thank you Johan.

It’s quite apparent, I had no idea, Celestion made zillions of speakers and all sound good in there own way. Some is what the speaker does and some it’s personal taste. Killer video. I have a plethora of Celestion. Blue alnico, 35 year old v30’s ....and so on, and I can’t pick a fav out of mine.

That G12-65 sounds great! Great demo! I think my most favorite guitar tone has got to be the tone on The Cult's Electric album! Especially on the song Lil' Devil. The higher wattage Celestions seems to have more top and sounds more aggressive and the lower wattage have more mids and sounds warmer and more organic. In all it's just completely different sounding speakers for different purposes and for different amps. I myself is more of a old school player and enjoy the warmth and the richness of the old school speakers but I gotta say the B205 Alnico Silver sounded pretty darn good and aggressive. Thinking of bying two G12H-30s and two G12Ms and put them in the same cab. Thanks for the video Johan.

My favorites (I don't like the greenback neither large cone speaker.) : 1. G12 B025 AlNiCo Silver 2. ´78 G12-80 with 1777 Lead Cone (surprisingly good for a large cone speaker, as they are usually muddy) 3. '88 Vintage 30 (444 Bass Cone) A regular version of the Vintage 30 miss a bit, as they are really anywhere and more britgher than the Marshall version. Very good stuff as usual. Cheers !
