It's funny to see a financial KZbinr not understand that someone else who also does KZbin, just does it to enjoy it. I think Michael broke Graham's brain by telling him he doesn't care about how much it is, as long as he's enjoying it. That's so much more valuable than a number in a bank account.

This is the difference between a person who lives to work, and a person who works to live. Bean counting, number scraping, etc. I understand Graham is an obsessive for efficiency, because he never wants to waste his time. But the dude comes off as just working to see the numbers go up, where as Michael is living to work because he loves it and it does enough to let him keep doing it. Really interesting to see Michael get challenged on numbers, but for Graham to be challenged on purpose. Really great interview.

Yeah, I always feel so weird when Americans talk about healthcare expenses and dilemmas of whether or not to go to a doctor, reasoning about expenses or insurance plans. And I was surprised to say it only took Graham a day to do his taxes though. I heard the US still uses paper forms and mail and like no automation and digital ID's or anything, so I assumed it'd take several days to get it all sorted. I've heard American immigrants say that they're so happy that our (personal) taxes only take minutes and that they were used to it taking days, but last I heard that was a few years ago to be fair.

@@Muskar2 honestly it’s gotten a bit quicker now but you still have to enter everything manually and calculate what you owe to the state and government which can take about 2ish hours. most people just pay to have it done for them so it takes maybe 30mins-1hr

Keep in mind that not everyone should take this advice about drop off college. Michael was experienced enough in the field to know that he'd be able to pull off not going to uni. Most higher-level jobs have graduation of a university as a requirement, so be wary of making the same decision for yourself.

His story about college reminds me a bit of my college experience. I started in 2019 going for a bachelors in comp science and the curriculum was just digital point and click adventure games with an IT skin. I made it through almost a year and then my mom passed away and that affected me a lot, tried my best to push through it because they wouldnt even give me a chance to take a month to navigate this turbulent time. fast forward to a year and a half(half way through my degree) and I ended up dropping out because I couldnt do it anymore with the depression. and 9 months later they lost their acredidation because they had super bad graduation rates and no where near the promised job placement rates, and the parent organization had be on and off under investigation for years but the info wasnt easy to find when I was enrolled. one of those investigations was for high ranking officers in the org signing students in their owned colleges into loan/grant programs without their consent and keeping the money. another time they were under investigation for potentially paying recruiters comissions on new student enrollment
