Agreed. I was practically crying laughing during that segment. Oh and "un-rigid" - would that be flexible? Diverse even? Well, no matter what you believe your radio identifies as, the connectors don't lie and this is one thing duct tape cannot fix. Should note it is important to properly tighten the connectors. Snug, but not too tight. I hate it when my electricites spill out all over the place and I have to clean them up....

I have metal stainless double lined chimney running up the side of the house, centered on the highest peak, extends approx 4' higher than the peak. In your expert opinion, how close would you place the GMRS antenna be so that it won't be affected by the ferrous metal chimney? Not concerned about the heat, just spurious interruption. Searched thru a lot of your videos, not sure if you touched this one at some point.

I have found that the Boafeng (UV-5R in my case) is very deaf when connecting a large external antenna, even with just about 15meters (about 49 feet) of coaxial cable going to my slim jim dipole antenna. It transmits very well and I get a lot of fars, but it struggles to open squelch when distant stations transmits. I have googled and googled and googled some more, but seems there is no solution to this issue, its got something to to with the receiver part sensitivity.

Hey Randy. This is Justin. I bought my oldest son a baofeng gm-15 pro. I program a few of the local 2m repeaters that I use. So he can listen to them. But he can’t hear any traffic coming from the repeaters. Just when I key up and unkey but no audio. We are about 4 miles line of sight to the repeater. Any advise is greatly appreciated
@wannabecarguy2 жыл бұрын
Ok so, if you copy and pasted in chirp from repeater book you probably got tones wrong. First step find a NOAA station that actually works. Next step look at the tone type you are using. In your programming software you may have the tone type set incorrectly. If it's on tone squelch change it to tone. Once you get on a repeater talk to the other users and ask them for current tone settings for the surrounding repeaters.

If I buy a baofeng uv-5r to listen to gmrs, ham etc. How do I know which antenna to use? I'm guessing that I would need a separate antenna for each but I can't find a list that would make it simple for a listener

If you are just listening, the stock antenna will work just fine.
@todamnbad Жыл бұрын
@NotaRubicon Productions so if I unlock it and just listen I can just use the stock antenna and I will hear basically everything (gmrs, frs, ham etc)? So now what if I need to broadcast in an emergency (real emergency) I would need different antennas for each? Afraid I might accidentally use the wrong antenna and burn something up. www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07RRPC8VQ?ref=ppx_pt2_mob_b_prod_image This one came recomemnded on another Channel but I noticed it has a specific mhz range so guessing it's no good for what I am trying to, an all in one antenna for longer range to listen and broadcast (real emergency only) would be great but guessing it's a pipe dream I'm sure you already covered this in a video but I just found your channel so I am playing catch up watching all of your stuff, I am open to all recommendations for antennas based on my question

May be a stupid question but is it possible to use the same antenna for multiple radio types? Currently I have a dual mirror mount antenna set up in my semi. I have the coax split to service my mounted Cb and my handheld am/fm cb radio. I’d like to add the boafeng gmrs radio. Would I need to install a different antenna maybe to the back of my cab? If I later added ham radio would that need a separate antenna as well? I was considering adding digital police/fire/ems/dot scanner but would need a separate glass mounted antenna
@TheNotaRubicon2 жыл бұрын
The antenna is made for/based on the frequency of the radio channels. Because the frequencies on CB and GMRS are so different, each would need its own antenna. Depending on what frequencies your police/fire/ems is listening on, you might be able to use the GMRS antenna for that.

Randy, not on subject for this video, but this is your latest video.. I saw an interesting "work around" that avoids 'legal' issues. Requirements: one HAM guy and one GMRS guy. The dedicated radios must have two channel monitoring, each being able to monitor the other's transmitted frequencies. The HAM guy transmits on his HAM frequency, which the GMRS guy is monitoring and can receive. The GMRS guy receives the message on monitor, and replies on his GMRS frequency, which the HAM guy is monitoring. End result...two way communication without any FCC regulation infractions! What do you think? (I know some radios can be unlocked, but if you can't, this should work, right?)
