Do the nuts ever have to be replaced? I've got a leak coming from my dryer in this very spot. That Recto seal sounds like the ticket! Many thanks for this helpful video! 👍

I know you had mentioned you can do the soapy water test right away. Do you need to wait for the sealant to cure out before you run the dryer? Thank you for the videos! They are easy to see and follow.
@frugaldiy13 жыл бұрын
Zach, you can use/run the dryer right after you apply the sealant. No need to wait. Thank you for the kind words, and I'm glad you enjoy the videos.

How long did you wait between the time you put the sealant on and when you applied water to it to check for leaks?

You can do it immediately, Huy.

Can a reuse the same gas line? I can't take the old one off from the wall it's so tight it almost feels like I'll break the entire valve
@frugaldiy1 Жыл бұрын
Jose, I reuse the same gas line UNLESS it's leaking or damaged in some way. The issue you may have now is that if you have tried to remove the current/old gas line and cannot, BUT may have loosened the line enough to cause a leak. Gas leaks are dangerous, so be very careful. If you reuse the gas line, please make sure you check the line for leaks at the wall/valve side do you're sure you have no leaks.

You're welcome, Ms. Williams. Nope, just tighten the fitting a bit more, a little at a time, and check for leaks again until you see no bubbles or fizzing. You got this! ;)

Great video! Makes a $80 charge vanish! I am curious thought why you wore rubber gloves to stir the Restroseal but your sister applied it with bare fingers?? Is the stuff toxic to touch for some people and not others?

Thank you, Leo. I usually wear gloves when I DIY or move things so I get a better grip on the thing I'm working on or moving.

Pipe dope on a flared fitting?
@frugaldiy13 жыл бұрын
Longmeadow, I'm glad you asked this question. Let me clarify. Many years ago, I took a plumbing class from a Master Plumber, and he addressed this age-old issue--pipe dope vs. no pipe dope on flared fittings. He said he had several flared-fitting connections leak when he did not use pipe dope, but he did not have any connections leak when he used pipe dope. He believed and taught that pipe dope is "insurance" against a leak. I follow what he taught and have never had a flared-fitting connection leak. I hope this answers your question. Happy DIYing!

before applying soapy water, how long do we wait for the sealant drying out? Thanks
@frugaldiy13 жыл бұрын
reo cam, you can apply the soapy water immediately after applying the RectorSeal 5. There's no need to give the sealant time to cure.

I smelled gas does that mean that the hose is bad ? When I turned the valve you can hear the gas coming through the pipes that’s normal right ? Thanks 😊
@frugaldiy12 жыл бұрын
You should not smell gas after you hook up and tighten the hose.
@kylearce99142 жыл бұрын
@@frugaldiy1 i redid the process and the gas smell is absent now so I think I forgot to put thread paste on one of the fittings and to be safe I barely turned the gas valve and there is enough gas to still start the dryer I don’t see the point of turning the valve completely when you only need so much gas for a dryer incase of a leak ?
@frugaldiy12 жыл бұрын
@@kylearce9914 I'm glad you found the issue, Kyle. I will add that gas appliances are engineered to have the gas valve fully open, unless otherwise specified, which I have never seen.

How u turn off the gas line where is that located
@frugaldiy12 жыл бұрын
Rob, you have to follow the flexible gas tubing back to where the gas shutoff valve is to locate the shutoff valve. I can't tell you where your shutoff valve is because I don't know the configuration of the gas piping and lines in your home.

If I don’t have that sealant can I use something else? Like plumbing tape?
@frugaldiy12 жыл бұрын
There is a specific gas-rated teflon-type tape that is used for gas pipe and gas fittings. The tape is yellow in color to distinguish it from regular white-colored teflon tape that's used for water pipes and fittings. I've never used the gas-rated tape, so I can't tell you much about it. I use Rectroseal 5 for water and gas applications because it's never failed me. It's great stuff, and I love it. I hope this helps you.

what peice do i need to connect the gas line to dryer… gas line is too big to go right on the back of the dryer and i’m not sure if i need a fitting or not
@frugaldiy13 жыл бұрын
Yes, if the gas line you have has a female fitting that is too large in diameter to screw on to the fitting on your gas dryer, you need to find a fitting that will adapt to the gas line and reduce down in size to the fitting on your gas dryer. You're looking for a fitting that is a female fitting to the dryer side and male male fitting to the gas line side. I would go to Lowe's or Home Depot and buy a dryer gas line connection kit--one that has various inside and outside diameter fittings. Or, you can take a picture with your phone of the gas connection fitting on your dryer and also use a ruler/measuring tape to measure the outside diameter of the fitting. Then, go to one of the big box stores to find a gas fitting that will fit. If you have a caliper to measure the fitting on your gas dryer, I'd use the caliper to get an exact outside diameter measurement.

@@frugaldiy1 thanks so much, i have a 3/4 gas fitting and even that is too big to connect to dryer… is it normal to go down to 1/2 or 1/4 ?
