This is my first 'signature tactics' video.. these combinations and techniques seem really versatile, I feel like I'd have to use each one of these combos quite a few times during sparring to really understand how it works and when it would be useful. And you have so many of these! New subscriber, definitely interested in this type of content. also, with the single kick tactics, when would they be useful? For example, the shuffle leg side kick, spinning back kick, or spinning heel kick are all quite easy to see coming when not set up, and I don't have much success landing them. How would you make sure to land them, and when you do, how would you follow them up?
@MMAShredded6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! I personally use the shuffle leg side kick as my opponent is about to move forward or off a jab. The lead side kick is obv much longer than your jab and if you are explosive enough you can catch your opponent. The spinning back kick is similar, I like throwing it when I can sense my opponent moving forward. And for the spinning heel kick, I personally do not practice it and quite honestly never landed it.
@skair54256 жыл бұрын
thanks! I practice Muay Thai and one of the guys at the gym told me about a tactic where an opponent waits for you to move in with a Thai Hop (the move Saenchai tends to use a lot) and then throws a push-kick. So, is that the same idea? To understand the opponent's rhythm and throw one of these kicks at the exact moment he steps in?
@MMAShredded6 жыл бұрын
Essentially yes. You can use the side kick in many other ways as well.

I really like this one. I was hoping you would include his pawing strategy as that's a big part of his kit. I think his setups are really nice, and flow very well for his style. Having a bunch of tools in your toolbox, really makes you a well rounded fighter. I wonder do you take low percentage shots and try to make the percentages higher? or do you use them more situational? I learned some things are lower percentage on landing, But I've learned when to land those type of shots in certain situations to make their percentages go up. or am i the only one that things like this ?
@MMAShredded5 жыл бұрын
I will throw certain techniques more depending on my opponent's stance, so yeah I would say I account for low percentage shots vs high percentage shots! thanks for watching !

Another astute and insightful vid. Yeah, McGregor likes to throw jabs and strikes from unexpected directions, like that corkscrew upper ... reminds me a little of one of Mohammed Ali's unnamed moves where (if I remember correctly) he'd bob in slightly, feint his head low and inside, and as his opponent's eyes tracked him low he'd throw a fast looping overhand hook from outside to his opponent's temple, right at the edge of their peripheral vision. BTW, props for not editing out failed attempts ... love the honesty. Failure is the greatest teacher, and deserves repect.

@@MMAShredded We need a video on how to take a punch like that old beast he punched. You could tell the old man was holding back from showing him how they threw down back in the day.
@karatechris66106 жыл бұрын
In general, I would avoid using the lead hook kick unless you train it to the level of van damme. It can be used against certain opponents to confuse them, but you have be powerful and precise with it, otherwise it is ineffective. The spinning side kick though is a great weapon, as you can see in MMAShredded's sparring - far more effective. I would suggest looking at "the Turkish Samurai" videos online to see how to use it offensively. But, you can use it in many other ways, too. For instance, one of my instructors, Jim Caldecourt (ISKA and WKMA world kickboxing champion), you can use it to control the ring craft. When you back someone up into a corner, they will either duck out to the left or to the right, let's say you are both orthodox fighters, he will move to your left, you can hit him really quick with a spinning side kick without moving half as much which can then back him up in the corner, if he moves to the left you hit him with a hard right round kick. This is part of the ring craft as you are then controlling where your opponent is and moving him onto your shots. You can also use it as a surprise attack, so in kickboxing if you are trading body shots you can put your weight on the front foot spring back with a jumping back spinning kick and catch them under the ribs, which then gives you distance so you can come in with a round kick, tip, jumping knee or something else that gets them off guard and breaks up that rhythm. In fact there are many ways to use that kick, but a great tool.

@BluntInnit6 жыл бұрын
These are Conor's best techniques not tactics. Though I like this video, it is incorrectly titled. Conor's best tactics are: 1- to start the fight the moment it is announced, this first phase being the mental battle. 2- to take smack talking to another level to cause emotional engagement. 3- to create a media bubble round opponent to throw their crucial pre fight training by causing stress in the opponent and distracting their focus. 4- to research and find ever skeleton in not only the opponent's closet but everyone close to them to put pressure not only on the fighter but their entire camp. 5- studies opponents footwork and learns their go to moves, the tells they will go into their standard combo and the footwork they use when doing that. He then trains a counter to interupt the timing on this combo, breaking the combo. This is the big game changer that makes him one of the best fighters and how he was able to even appear to out boxer floyd and how he caught jose. By disrupting a technique so common to the fighter that they have no conscious thought while doing it is actually a thing hypnotists use. It is called a pattern interrupt and that is exactly what it does. When you perform a pattern that you do so often that you don't think about it if it is interrupted, say you went to shake someones hand but just as you went to grab their hand and were committed to that action, they took their hand away. In that instant there is a moment of confusion while the brain has to work out another action to do instead, in that moment of confusion you freeze up, it is only a fraction of a second but that fraction of a second is the exact moment Conor's left hits you. After this happens a couple of times you question yourself and are unsure what to do as you know that what you want to do will be intercepted and fail. This leads to hesitation in his opponent while they are having to consciously think about performing moves as they abandon their standard playbook. 6- his footwork, his footwork is superb and closes down a lot of opponents attacks while creating opportunities for himself. Though I do not condone Conor's junkie gangster behavior, and am disgusted at Dana's double standard by rewarding Conor while banning Jon Jones for a much lesser offense. I still predict that Conor will KO Khabib by the end of the 3rd. If Khabib does take it to decision I question if he will have done enough damage to Conor in the judges eyes to gain the win over all the strikes he took in the process. I don't doubt Khabib will take Conor down a few times but question how much of the round will be left by that time to wear Conor out, as that's what he does, he doesn't maul, just maintains dominant position and makes you expend a huge amount of energy getting back to your feet. So even if it does go the distance and Conor spends the entirety of the last 2 rounds lying down, if he wins the first 3 rounds on points then he wins.

For all these kicks setup is key. Jump scissor kick should be set up by landing some shuffle/stepping front teeps so they think body when you step and raise the knee. Skipping side kick is slow enough that all your sparring partners could catch or parry it, though you rechambered quickly enough in most cases. Use the same skip to hit some switch kicks to the lead leg to get them to plant and check.

Conor had the most simple tactics, but he was so effective. Wide stance Conor was something else.

The way you pivot your foot before you spin on that heel kick is handy , I'm going to try

Solid breakdown, Especially how you show how it's applied in sparring against multiple opponents. One question I have though, you pointed out the cross counter off of the outside slip but no mention of it off the inside slip which is the traditional use of a cross counter, and a much harder shot that he uses far more often. He also uses alot of this whilst on the front foot pressuring them backwards, specifically he layers decoy jabs on the lead to bait a response then times that response with his cross counter (eddie alvarez and both diaz fights are a perfect example), a proactive based approach to an almost exclusively reactionary weapon, very rare and definitely worth mentioning, not to mention has the highest potential for a KO

You will get more spin off of the spinning hook kick if you lift your leg after the spin. You spin and right before the end you whip your leg out. Uriah Hall has a good video on it. Amazing work as always.

Sweet thank you for the tip ! Will try that out next time I train!

Jeff, the 9th tactic is actually a front snap kick, like a traditional karate kick, not a teep. Also, the first tactic, slip and counter, is usually a rear hook instead of a cross.
@MMAShredded6 жыл бұрын
Yes now that i think of it, I agree the push kick is more of a front snap kick. Although i disagree with your observation on tactic 1, I do not see his slip and counter as a rear hook. Either way, thanks for watching bro!
@Momsspaghetti7776 жыл бұрын
To me the push kicks is half way between a snap and a teep. You’re driving through and trying to knock them back still but the motion is definitely flicking outward

Love all the continuous testing of tactics and the failures too. Would be cool if you could show a side by side of tactics you’re emulating.
@MMAShredded6 жыл бұрын
what do you mean by side by side?
@professor-wright6 жыл бұрын
MMAShredded ah pardon - I made the comment before thinking about the extra work it would take and potential media license issues. Was thinking of when you say for example “mcgregor does this” show footage of him performing the kick alongside yours. Anyway. All good love the product you’re pushing out.
