Also, in the bonus stage, there's an hidden extra life in every bonus stage. And i think the score can give you extra lives, but for this fact, i'm just based on my memories so i can be wrong.

Wow, I don't think I've ever seen the Genesis smack the SNES this hard in a Console Wars episode. Completely justified though, the Genesis version of The Jungle Book as way better on the Genesis. To be fair, most Disney themed games on the Genesis and SNES are better on Genesis for some reason. My best theory is that they were built from the ground up for the Genesis then hastily ported to the SNES because... it's the SNES. It's too bad since the SNES could easily play these games just as well if these games had more effort put into them and this is coming from a Sega guy.
@Gatorade692 жыл бұрын
I want to say it was developed first for the Genesis. You look at Virgin interactive's games and they seemed to favor the Genesis (Aladdin comes to mind). The team went on to form Shiny and do Earthworm Jim which I think came out first on the Genesis and was a bit better on the Genesis. Edit : Looking it up Jungle book released in July 94 for the Genesis and August 94 for the SNES.

@@JMFSpike Jungle Book started development on the Genesis first. Virgin had a deal with Sega and worked with them a lot (Hence Aladdin on the Genesis). "In 1990 Sega appointed Virgin as a third party publisher. Seeing its success, Sega acquired the publishing arm of Virgin Mastertronic in 1991, turning it into Sega Europe. The development arm, which Sega was not interested in, returned to its original name as Virgin Games." "Development of the Mega Drive version was started by the Virgin Games USA development team, led by famous programmer David Perry. Before the game was completed, they were switched to work on Aladdin instead. When Aladdin was completed, Virgin wanted the team to go back to The Jungle Book and finish it, but they ended up leaving the company to form Shiny Entertainment and do work that would later result in Earthworm Jim. Eurocom Entertainment Software was then contracted by Virgin to finish the game and develop most of the other game versions."

Some of them are better on SNES are mostly from Capcom like Magical Quest 2: The Great Circus Mystery and Bonkers.
@dynamicvoltage97652 жыл бұрын
Fun fact: One of the reason you see a lot of Genesis versions of games with more cut scenes, levels, sounds, etc is because Super NES games used a lot more cart space because they used samples for instruments and the color indexing caused graphics to use more space. With the Genesis, colors went from 0-63, but on SNES they went from 0-255. So Genesis games were smaller, so they could add more to fill out the same cart space as a SNES version.

@@gilbertonascimento8008 Capcom struggled with thier Genesis development and compression in general for the console. Of course the simps mobilized and they were showered in thousands of dollars in donations, when they 100% misrepresented the letter they received, definitely had the money or at least the means to get the money, and the letter clearly wasn't even demanding immediate payment. Wow! I was not expecting to enjoy this episode so much! Never played either game. Never even seen any footage from either game, other than a few brief clips. You really helped make up for my lack of experience with such detailed descriptions of everything. Oh, and not having mid-review skits (unless the quick "sugar gliders" flashback is meant to be a mid-review skit) feels refreshing! Certainly made it easier for me to focus! When it comes to your Disney game episodes, this makes the "Great Circus Mystery" episode pale in comparison, at least for me! Since I've never seen the movie the games are based on, I was a little worried I'd get confused due to not being able to get at least one significant joke. Thanks for making the writing accessible for those of us who didn't see the movie! I really should get around to watching it sometime, since I've got Disney Plus. Overall, an excellent episode! This is definitely going into my list of favorite Console Wars episodes! Thanks for exceeding my expectations! BTW, at the start, you both mention that you both have never actually seen the movie that today's games are based on. Is that true? For me, as of this writing, it is. Currently, my only experience with the movie has been some clips, the most significant clips I've watched being the "Bare Necessities" and "I Wanna Be Like You" songs.
@ConsoleWars2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the episode was long enough so no skits mid video. And we actually have seen the movies. We’re glad someone who hasn’t seen them was able to enjoy this episode!
@roylam33292 жыл бұрын
@@ConsoleWars Thanks for the reply! Just for the record, none of your movie-based game episodes left me with the feeling of "I'm confused, must be because I didn't see the movie". Even the ones about games based on movies I hadn't seen at the time. For example, I enjoyed the skits in the "Batman Forever" episode, and also didn't get confused by any of the jokes about things from the Batman Forever movie, despite never having seen that movie at the time. I did enjoy the episode even more when I rewatched it after seeing Batman Forever. Now, you might be wondering why I was so worried that not having seen the Jungle Book movie would result in this episode making me feel confused or like I didn't properly appreciate it. Well, the reason for that would be the Angry Video Game Nerd (AVGN). In the AVGN's movie-based game reviews, he's made jokes and remarks that, if you didn't see the movies the games are based on, you'd probably get confused or feel like you're missing something important. At least, that's the impression I get. Rest assured, I never got that feeling from any of your movie-based game episodes. My point is, just continue to write your movie-based game episodes however you want to, without being worried about confusing your audience. If I get a feeling of "I'm confused, must be because I didn't see the movie" from any of your episodes, I'll let you know in the comments. I probably won't have to, though! Sorry for the long comment! Just wanted to make things clear.

I totally forgot about him!" lol 😅 I'm so happy to see you guys give credit to the Sega visuals in cases like this. It always bugged me when SNES games OVER-used the color palette - like, why did Link have pink hair in A Link to the Past? In a lot of licensed games, they used _way_ too many colors and didn't bother looking like the thing they were supposed to be; all these flat cartoon characters suddenly became overly shaded, and it never looked right. This is one of those cases, and just like with Tiny Toons and some of your other episodes on cartoon-based games, you guys caught it and give credit to where credit is due - the _Sega Genesis._ Good eye!

All Virgin/Disney games (+ Earthworm Jim, Cool Spot etc) are better on the Megadrive/Genesis... the only thing better on the SNES is the amount of displayed colors, which makes the games look more vibrant at first glance, but the MD versions have a lot more going on + higher resolution, and this is not a mystery, David Perry, the creator of MD's Aladdin (and Jungle Book's game designer) stated he prefered programming for the MD than for the SNES, as he was more familiar with the 68000 CPU (which was the go-to 16 bits CPU, it was everywhere, arcade machines, Atari ST, Amiga 500, MD/Genesis, Neo-Geo...), and the MD's architecture was simpler and more similar to the 16 bits computer of the time.

Nah your just bad at playing snes it’s better then genesis

The controls on this game can never compare to road runner. 😂 You are a bad player

@@3xperiment8 I think so too. I'm normally good at video games, but sometimes not so much.

@@wizarddudereborn457 I agree Snes was more popular at rent stores than Genesis (maybe because cartridges were more expensive I dunno) but some games are definitively more difficult on Snes (which would require kids to rent the game more times to finish It) I finished Robocop 3 for Genesis with easy, but on Snes it looks Impossible. I wouldnt be surprised if devs made controls different for some Snes ports just for that matter.

I was wondering if you guys were gonna do Jungle Book. Great video as always. I found the Sega version to be a lot more forgiving and accessible and managed to beat it. The SNES version on the other hand, I only got up to like the third level before quitting.

I wasn't expecting the games to be so different. Seems like I'll be skipping the loser. Monster ninja from the black hole next!

Sega was needing this. Been a while since you got a nice decisive victory. Great vid as always

The beauty of the 16bit era( and highlighted through this channel) is how many same name titles on the SNES/Genesis were distinctive enough to be worthwhile playing both versions.

I have the same reaction anytime someone says "I like Castlevania" I scream "It's better on Sega! SEGA!!!" 😂

I found it funny how they both openly say at the start of the episode that they''ve never seen the movie, but they constantly compare the games to the movie throughout the entire episode :D

A Hunter S Thompson reference? Wasn't expecting that. I was gonna joke and say something about the "fear and loathing" Pat must have had for that costume, but that might be too corny lol. Anyway, great video as always guys. By the way is it just me, or does that Reggie guy sound a lot like Barack Obama?
