This is the best build video I have seen to date because you covered so many component installations: water cooling, radiator installs pt. 1, improved radiator installs pt. 2, NVMe x2, Threadripper installation (this is the 2nd one I've seen), RGB fans plus cabling (OMG!!) and GPU cards modified with water cooling! Wow...wow! I think the best part, for me, was watching the cooling mod on the Nvidia 1080s. I can't recall ever seeing removal of GPU fans and replacing with water cooling blocks. I learn a lot watching your decision process and order-of-installation in your builds. My comments are for this collective Riptide series. I actually watched the 'use of Riptide' first and then watched these build videos. Thanks for showing how well the system encodes quickly compared to your previous encoding set-up. Thanks for the videos and please continue to produce them because they help me to learn what the latest PC tech is, how it works and finally how it performs. Super, super-cool build!!

My OCD can't handle that Noctua fan lol.. Fantastic build Paul, looks awesome.

I don’t understand why Noctua insists on making fans that look almost as bad as the current Corsair cpu aio water block.

@Paul's Hardware That build is the definition of a BEAST !! B.t.w. why don't You get a "spigot" that You can attach to Your tap that fits to the internal diameter of flexible tubing. ((I use the type made that is made to let You connect a garden hose to Your tap)). Then using that You can connect what ever You want to flush directly to the tap ((using tubing)) and then You just turn the tap on and leave it until You are "happy with it". It makes flushing properly much easier, and it becomes trivial to use (tap)"hot" water to flush as well((that's what I do and I find it very convenient)) Best regards.

It all depends on how you view your PC: do you just want to hit the power button and be done with it, or is it something that you like to tinker with, say, you actually enjoy swapping a new graphics card in versus just getting it over with so you can play your games already? If you're the former, the guy that might pull his PC out once or twice a year just to knock the half inch thick layer of dust off with some canned air, liquid cooling absolutely is not for you at all, obviously. But, if you're the latter, if you actually enjoy upgrading hardware, trying to nail cable management, overclocking your hardware and getting your fan curves just right, then you'll probably enjoy liquid cooling and the maintenance that comes with it. And, the maintenance isn't really a hassle either - IF - you plan out & layout your loop properly. It's easy to make it a real headache if you approach it carelessly, but that's really not too difficult to avoid as long as you do your research ahead of time and plan everything out appropriately(which in itself isn't even difficult, it just takes a little time and a little brain). Anyway, if you're the latter of the two and are intrigued by liquid cooling, by all means, check it out. Don't let it scare you, this stuff is very simple, no black voodoo magic happening here. It certainly isn't the cheapest option, but, if you can afford it and enjoy getting hands on with your system, I don't think you'll regret it.
@tzxazrael6 жыл бұрын
@RyTrapp0 hey now, come on! everyone knows it takes more than a year to build up that nice cozy half-inch layer of dust! don't knock those users' dedication! :P but yea, for the "typical" user, custom watercooling is a lot of work for little to no practical gain. increased cost, increased chances of failure, failure has a greater chance to be catastrophic/destructive, more maintenance required, etc. and all you get from it is from pretty looking tubes running back and forth in your case. custom watercooling is really for enthusiasts and tinkerers, who are going to be opening up their cases every few months to swap some part or other anyway so might as well flush the loop[s] while you're at it. they won't mind the extra cost, because hey, they were going to spend that money on the computer anyway, right? and they're the ones who will be really pushing their overclocking profiles, making the enhanced heat controlling abilities will actually be needed for it. in the "middle" ground is the various AIO sealed water cooling kits. for the casual overclocker, these are great. pop off your cpu cooler, and replace with the waterblock, turn on your auto-OC profile, and you're done! it's not as pretty as a custom loop, but it's usually a LOT cheaper, and they're designed to be maintenance free. @Alex M basically, decide how "involved" you want to be with your PC once it's "done". for some of us, it's never "done" and we love the pain in the ass of all the extra things we can do with it. some users just want "a little bit more" out of the system, but don't really want to have to be back inside the case all the time to check on things. some just want to stick it under the desk and ignore it until it's time to go to Best Buy/etc and get another box off the shelf. once you figure out where you are on that scale, it basically answers itself.
@TBonerism6 жыл бұрын
Alex M EK has a custom loop option that is easy. They sell kits with the QDCs everything. They look nice and easy.

I used this build as a basis for my build except I used Hardware Labs Nemesis radiators, Aqua Computer pump/res and block and Samsung ssd’s/nvme. Other than that it’s pretty much the same. Thanks for the guide. The whole fan wiring with modules would have been a lot more confusing without it.

Been eagerly waiting for part 3. Looking pretty great. Can't wait to see it with water cooling.
@fakjbf31296 жыл бұрын
I'm interested in how well the bottom system is going to perform, mostly in terms of cooling. Yeah you've got a nice fan on it, but it's only got a couple inches of room above it to move air around. It seems like it'll depend a lot on how hard you push it, I wouldn't be overly surprised if maxing it out led to minor overheating.
@jbinfa7k6 жыл бұрын
Riptide is so tight it almost having too much radiators. Good save man, good save. Can't wait to see you boot it up.

The way you set up custom water cooling for the gpu, I gotta admit, I love how it looks because I really don’t like the ones that are crystal water block cuz it looks so tacky but this one is awesome
@throughsoul6 жыл бұрын
I always like the performance of a push-pull config. But, things are touching and I believe if you took the fans off the top it would fit better. Also, the Alphacool logo is upside down but flipping it might lead to other issue, which I would choose to deal with, but that's your call. And finally, I'd also consider adding water cooling to the bottom system with a quick disconnect, you more than have enough thermal overhead with that many radiators and that fan doesn't really go. In fact, it stands out as not matching.

Does anyone else think that discreet ribbon-style black PSU cables look better than these massive colored/combed custom cables? Yes, they look cool, but they are so overpowering in color and size and each going in a different direction, that they ironically make the build look messy, and being the main source of color (aside from the RGBs), it's just a bit too much and they distract from the hardware components. It's almost like you have a window to mainly show off your massive cables.
@sweepoodgaming54006 жыл бұрын
QuantumBraced was thinking the same, looks off. Would as you Said look better with plane black or a combo between black and Dark gray to make a slight contrast.
@TBonerism6 жыл бұрын
I will hold judgement until I see what he does with the loop. If the loop doesn't pop, the cables will be nice. Otherwise it is an all black build which in and of itself isn't a bad thing, but when you go for a color palette then it doesn't work.
@thehayze6 жыл бұрын

I have suggestion Paul. It would be great if your cameraman used a gimble or some kind of motion stabilizer when the camera is not mounted onto a stand. Its really hard on the eyes to focus on anything when he's shaking it so violently... not to mention that, that part of the video was rendered at twice the speed. Its really straining on the eyes to keep track of anything that you're showcasing. Thanks, you are awesome brother!
@DanielEhlmann6 жыл бұрын
I’ve heard a lot of people complaining about how the Corsair 1000D is useless since “nobody ever needs 2 systems”. I definitely get why it exists. It’s definitely a fringe use-case kind of PC case, but for the people who need it, they *need* it. I have 2 PCs with gaming hardware since my wife and I play together, and I host a NAS on the weaker gaming PC when it’s not in use. This case would finally allow us to have 1 giant PC instead of 1 large PC (mine), and 1 medium size PC (the NAS/hers)
@barryarmstrong52326 жыл бұрын
Of course a Caselabs case would do the same, and be leagues better quality.

serious Q, wouldn't it make more sense to do the initial flush also with distilled water? using tap water might leave behind some water and thus negate the distilled water in the loop's benefit of no contaminates.

why not a proper TR4 CPUblock?
@alextrotta7966 жыл бұрын
He talked about that in his unboxing video. It was sponsored by Alphacool, but he said he might swap it out in the future.
@arkratos37276 жыл бұрын
I hate when sponsored parts ruin the build in little ways. Subpar Tr4 block, super ugly gpu waterblocks, radiators that are too big and touch... I'm all for Paul getting sponsors and allowing him to make super cool content, but it's also promoting bad product(s). I guess the only real bad product there is the Tr4 block... but still...
@alextrotta7966 жыл бұрын
Yea, I can definitely see the CPU block not performing as well as others. As for the rest of it, I'm just liking that someone other than EK has sponsored something. From a lot of the big channels, you just see EK over and over again, and while they have nice stuff it seems, it's nice to have a little variety.
@RyTrapp06 жыл бұрын
No sponsor is "ruining" anything, Alphacool has already announced a TR4 block and, if you follow his videos, he's already talked about getting ahold of it. Not that it's even mandatory, we already know that even little garbage Asetek AIOs are more than capable of cooling Threadripper under typical use. Don't try to set an OC record with prime95 burning away for 12hrs, and non-TR4 liquid cooling will hold up fine.

It already looks really good! The *one* eyesore is that Noctua fan. I know low-profile coolers are hard to come by, but would you consider a 240mm AIO to mount in the back to cool the Ryzen APU? Really, anything but that tan fan would be good. Cant wait to see the finale!!!
