Relased in 1992, Contra Force is a spin-off of the Contra series and the third game in the series released for the NES (following the home versions of the original Contra and Super C). At this past Awesome Games Done Quick, $1,025,000 was raised for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. It only took a week of continuous streaming, 18,000 donors, and many many runners to achieve. A big thanks to everyone responsible for these amazing numbers, what a humbling achievement. For comparison, last year's event raised just under $500,000.

I'll never know why this game generated so much hate. This is one of the best games on NES. It had weapon selection, action-packed levels, great music, even bot system if you want additional gun firing.

+Xerafimy It's super glitchy and obviously unfinished - infinite jumping glitch, ridiculous amount of lag. Most importantly, it was called Contra even when it's more of a Megaman-style action platformer than a pure Run'n'Gun. If they didn't rename it to Contra and kept it as Arc Hound as it was originally called, and actually gave devs more time to fix bugs and optimize, it could've been a great game.

This game deserves points for trying to push the NES with lots of unique graphics; however, it does not win a cookie for having tons of slowdown, an obtuse weapon system.

great run.. but someone needs to do a better job on the audio mixing.. Volume is often too low on the runners mic.. and the clapping is often the loudest

I know what you mean however I kinda like having the audience in the sound too because I love the 'community' feel or feeling like you're apart of them. It's just a shame I can't hear the important chittering going on.

Sorry but there's zero fuckin excuse for this game to be so full of slowdown when there's been far more hectic and busy NES games that have slim-to-zero fuckin slowdown. How can anyone defend this?

It's an innovation, the same super awesome slow motion from cheesy action films implemented into a cheesy action game! Seriously, everything else about this game is great/interesting. The slowdown may not be defensible, but it's certainly forgivable in my opinion, and it never really hindered my ability to play the game. In fact, it reminded me of the "focus time" mechanics in modern games because it seemed to make the game easier any time it occurred. This game and Layla are like retro versions of more modern shooters. Try giving Layla a shot, it's got a stellar arsenal of weapons and a much more straightforward inventory system as opposed to Contra Force's iffy (but boldly experimental!) "Gradius" bar, no slowdown, and some really fun bonus sequences.

Game Genie? Are you talking about the second generation top-loading NES? Or the conversion box to allow the use of a SNES controller?

I think he means the device HE - Tycoon - has to use to play Contra games. Clearly, the runner was using the Top-loader, and unless you hacksaw the plastic danglies off of the Genie, you can't use one in the Top-loader. As for the controller, he was using the Top-loader controller, which is bone-shaped, and feels a lot like the SNES controller. I didn't want to be "that guy", but really, that comment just filled me with nerdrage, and Tycoon is ignorant as all dick. #nothingtodohere
