Hey Buckin’, My name is Shane and I am a 19 year old Welder/Fabricator from Oregon. Ive been struggling a bit lately with some personal things that have been mostly out of my control and I just want to tell you that you and your videos have helped me more than you know. Ive been splitting wood and falling trees like its going out of style in my free time and ive never been happier. You have helped me build a better and healthier lifestyle and attitude and Im definitely in your debt for that. Thanks again buckin’ and if anyone deserves 50 bucks, its a guy like you. and remember, you got to get the gullet!

Brother the most important thing ,,to me in this comment is that you are feeling better . you are right where you are suppose to be , we always are , and we can always change things . so it seems to me ,you grabbed the most primitive tool in the world and started swingin' it around and just felt good , its because yer Spirit is calling. and you listened . brother this is a very important thing to listen to . i remember , vividly at 18 years old staring at my Baby hands lookin out the window wondering who i was goin to be and what i was goin to do with these hands. . you are on yer way, the reasons I know this? Two things , Humility , you acknowledged something wasnt right, and did something about it, remember if nothin' changes ... nothin' changes . you also spoke about it which relaxes the wall . honesty always brings freedom. super proud to have you on this page and inu this community

For me the real gold of Buckin's videos is in the little things he observes about life and the different ways to live it, I believe the fact that he does about the best job anyone could do of making videos which explain and demonstrate the many aspects of cutting wood is simply a byproduct him living these observations which he makes and shares for anyone with the ears to hear and the mind to appreciate. It's not a job, it's not a paycheck, it's not a path that he follows, it's a ethos that he has created and I'm very grateful for him living it to the fullest and sharing it with the world. Great job Buckin! Your a professional human being in my book.

I'm just a typical weekend worrier with a basic saw but did infact assume my chains were done and would go buy new ones *until" I learned about filing down the rakers... Haven't bought a chain for a long time because I went back with Abit of dentistry to the old chains now they cut like new. It works for me anyways. Thanks Mr BRB!

I am a stihl tech and do chainsaw nights to help people learn to sharpen. I avoid the counting strokes. If you don't sharpen your tooth you cannot cut. Simple as that. Within reason if you want to prolong your chain life keep an eye on tooth length but it has to be Sharpe or its simply going to cut croked. I go through with a guide for wrackers because it's dangerous to much off and pointless sharpening if you don't maintain them too. Love your videos you answered my thoughts on the ground chain gullet.

I would like to say something to everyone that watches this channel. This man works harder than any other KZbin creator that I know of. On top of that, he does it with good intentions. He isn’t trying to get rich. He is trying to help people, and make the world a better place. I know this to be true because he hasn’t sold out to a bunch of sponsors. I don’t think that there is anything wrong with accepting sponsorships at all, as long as they are companies that have good products and integrity. Buckin is so serious about this that he has passed up many opportunities just to make sure that his love and integrity remains unquestionable. I respect that a lot… We receive so much from his work, and he doesn’t even charge us for it… After watching him for 6 or 7 years now, I am certain that he is deserving of way more than he is getting. I would like for us to get together and start paying the man. It’s only right. All of us chipping in through donating on his website, or super thanks on KZbin, would change his life. I fully believe that we owe this man for his work…. I don’t know how this will go over, but I don’t care. I want to see Buckin and his family get all that they deserve…. It’s the least I can do. Thank you all in advance! I know that I am writing this to a bunch of great people!

This is why we love ya buddy. Those of us from small towns are especially familiar with the old school wisdom that sometimes is super accurate and other times completely bunk. You’ve gotta test things or you’ll end up making second-hand blunders! Only chisel chain I use is brand new, and only chisel until it dulls and I round file it 😃. Some day I’ll buy a grinder! Cheers buddy!

As i have read thousands of comments on this channel over the past 2 years and have learned more from Buckin than i could've ever imagined, i do enter this community with green horns 🤘 with limited experience and with great desire to learn more, be entertained and educated about interesting things. I've always have taken my little dulled chains to the local shop to get sharpened, very cheap/easy access/close by. I do not have a grinding setup but have aquired numerous small round files to hand file chains. I realize now that all cutting is different, pruning/limbing/falling (felling)/bucking etc. And all trees and woods are different, hardwood/softwood/greenwood/deadwood etc. It seems that there are options depending on your time constraints and your personal perspectives on details. It has been my belief that 90% of the tree workers here have way more experience than me. So it is easy for me to learn more than i need. Stay true, don't be blue Do what's best for you Go out and work Go out and play To be outside Is a glorious day 🌱🌲💚🕊️

And not all raker gauges are the same. “I” believe that you should be using a progressive style, not a static style. Progressive is like the Husqvarna. Static is like the Stihl. I like both saw types, so that is not what I’m referring to. Raker gauges are. BBR has covered this before. If you look closely at how a saw chain actually WORKS then you know it takes “chips” out and not a steady ribbon (unless you’re noodling). And with a static style you’re effectively lowering your raker more as the cutter gets sharpened more and more. That’s not how it worries with progressive (dynamic) gauges. With progressive you’ll hit a point where you’ll not ever even be able to tell ANY difference between a hardwood setting vs a softwood setting. It’s about 2/3 of the way back. Try it and you’ll see. Just MY experience. 👍 Have your self a great day BBRS.

@230e4 2 жыл бұрын
Whatever file or grind you use, keeping your chain out of the dirt is key. I can consistently fall twice as many trees on a square filed chain before needing to sharpen versus round and do it faster. You will especially notice the difference between square and round when cutting a notch in hardwoods at 70-90 degrees and bore cutting. The other very important factor is what chain you are running, you will find Carton and Husqvarna x-cut chains stay sharp noticeably longer than the Oregon chains in hardwoods. Full house chain equals twice as much time spent sharpening and thus less time cutting vs. full-skip chain. So for me square filed full skip Carlton chain depth gauges set with a depth gauge that measures each tooth has proven to be the most productive chain I have run so far. I cut 5 hrs a day on average some days longer if I'm not skidding. Oh, If you square file you will find it very beneficial for both your filing and your file to file the gullet out as you file. Always look up!

I wouldn’t go less than 50:1 myself I run anywhere between 40:1 to 45:1. More oil is better to a point. If you run too much oil and run yours saw too rich they will carbon up and you can wreck a top end just as well and too lean and not enough oil. It’s all about the the happy medium

@@farmerjackson709 i know they’ve been selling it since the 70’s and ive been running it in my trimmers and saws without any problems so far. Just curious if any builders on here have taken apart a saw that runs it.

18:22 takes off his glasses to make a cut. A true professional! Why don't you make a video on why its so important NOT to wear safety equipment such as eye protection. I love your absolute knowledge of and skill with a chain saw, and life for that matter... but cringe every time you make a cut

Never noticed a difference in the cut taking the gullet out. It does make a difference when Limbing. It's much slower in the limbs if you don't take the gullet out. But that only matters in the production cutting world. I don't believe a little gullet will matter if you're just firewood cutting. This is just speaking from my experience, 4th generation timber faller.

@@BuckinBillyRaySmith appreciate the reply. I suppose I was spoiled from the start, my dad showed my square ground first lol didn't learn to round file till years later. Well actually it was mostly from watching your videos I started to get the round filing down, so thanks for that. Not sure if you'll even see this reply it have time to read it but I very much enjoy your videos and so does my son. There was a good chunk of time that we had to watch your videos in order for him to fall asleep at night. You've also inspired me to upload more videos to KZbin because my son lives chainsaws so much, it brings me a lot of joy to be able to share that with him! If you do end up reading this sorry it's so long but thanks for the good entertainment and keep up the good work! Maybe one day we can make it to a buckin stock so my son can meet you!

You can REALLY notice a big shelf gullet when putting in a nice big humboldt face cut. Also , a big gullet that hasn't been got rid of really gets in the way when making a big buck in soft conifers like bucking the root wad off a big red cedar. Cutting red cedar with 3/8 chain sucks. But not taking the gullets out makes it Worse ! Your chain in the vid has had half the gullet gone already. It isn't a real good test. Also, heading some of your cutters shorter than others , doesn't lead to satisfactory cutting. Count your strokes, keep everything the same and your depth guages accurate. . Keep your gullet out and your chain will be a good money maker.
