I like a hybrid approach. Lowe's Sta-Green Natural 16-0-10 is cheap and mostly derived from organic sources. Also has some Humic and Kelp in it. If you mix it 1 to 1 with Milorganite you get really close to a 4-1-2 ratio. Then applying that mix at 10lbs per 1k gets you a little over 1lbs of Nitrogen.

That sounds like a really cool product! I'll have a Lowes available to me next month after my move, ill try to find that. Thanks for sharing!

Hey Brian, Always excellent content. My soil ph came back at 7.2. What do I need to do or apply to get it more acidic? Recommendations for the proper fertilizer to use. My last application in early September was a 16-4-8 by Andersons.

All I know about sodium nitrate is it's also called Chilean Nitrate because of a mined deposit of a material there that is one of if not the only mined mineral sources of N, I shy away from it because of the sodium part I am not sure of. Just wanted to share that since shipping is so costly, if you can find alfalfa pellets at a farm supply store, soak with a little water and they will break apart into meal. I do take the time to rub that out over a 3/16" screen and breaks up nicely, but it's a lot more economical for me. I have also found a farmer that sold me a 700# bale of alfalfa hay, which I used to add to a bare soil area, I mulched it up with a chainsaw and spread it by hand also started making charcoal (biochar) from trimmed or fallen hardwood tree branches, kind of crushed it up with a shovel, I'm working on a hammer mill setup to crush biochar and the fall leaves to a really fine spreadable consistency. If I can reduce un-composted dry fall leaves to almost a confetti or powder, and spread it over the yard, It can rob the soil of N, but maybe I can add ferts in addition to this to balance it out. I am just thinking how I can return the leaves back to the soil immediately with out composting, then letting it break down on it's own. As it gets colder it might not really break down so well. I don't want to smother the grass either so that may or may not not be a great idea.

I'll put that on the future video idea list. I only stock a few of the ym and next products so maybe I'll pick up a few more for demonstration and explanations.

What do you think about miracle grow? It has micros like boron and also NPK. I bought 4 pounds on sale and ran it over the yard. It darkened up a bit. Feeling like I found magic for cheap.

keep in mind with fish emulsions you also are likely getting some mercury…nut a big deal on lawns but some garden goods are better at sucking it up and storing it. So be careful with it in the garden. I do use it on the lawn.

Good point and one I haven't researched yet. As I start making garden content later this year for the new channel I'll make sure to keep that in mind in regards to specific plants. Thanks

I made the switch to ams. As you know I've been on the urea band wagon for a while. George from princess cuts had a video where he showed ams produced grass with a darker forest green color. Jessy from lawn life had a vid backing this up. I tried ams to see if there was a noticeable difference. There is a huge difference. Urea produces a light yellow grass. Ams produces a dark forest green lawn with a few spots of light yellow. The light yellow may be from an earlier app of urea. I would add that attribute to ams when describing ams.

what is your take on the accumulation of harmful heavy metals and other junk that is contained in milorganite?

Wow, are you focusing your video on organic chemists? I need a lot less science because you have definitely confused me. Think I’ll stick with Milorganite when it’s hot, and Scott’s turf builder when it’s cool.
