@@EveHenleySpread It really is dreadful, and I agree, there have been few redeeming moments involving Derek. Some of the Derek/Des storylines were amusing or would have been if they hadn't been done to death. He and Mavis just make each other even more irritating than they are separately.

April 1994 - lukewarm month. We're in the midst of the EnviroSphere borefest - at least it proved to Derek (at long last) that he wasn't one of the world's greatest salesmen; elsewhere, Tanya's seduction (and corruption) of Des Barnes picks up speed, and Emily sadly loses her fiance, providing Percy with a convenient get-out of his sudden and unexpected engagement to Maud.

I fully agree. Gail saying she knows how the grieving mother feels, is quite an insult. Gail and Brian were at loggerheads and leading completely separate lives when Brian was killed. Okay, she probably didn't want him dead, but at the time he died - she didn't want him.

This is where the balance of characters starts to fall apart and the writing becomes too typical instead of real. Norris, Dereck, Reg, Maureen are all over characterised as comedy characters in a farce while real characters like Emily, Jack, Sally are in decline. The artful skill of writing comedy into the tragedy of real life is disappearing .... Still good, but the excellence of previous decades is seen less and less, and those Alan Bennett like philosophical one-liners are almost non-existent in favour of drawn out dry-as-a-bone storylines. Having watched 2 decades on the bounce it's really obvious. I can't find anything between the lines anymore.

Can anyone tell me.. 1) how many times does Rita get married after she became a widow after marrying Ted Sullivan? 2) how many times did Gail marry? after Twice married to Brian Tilsley, then Martin Platt Was her next marriage to Richard Hilman? 3) after Kevin Webster did Sally remarry & to who? Have i missed anyone out? I didnt watch Corrie alot from 1995 then from 2000, not at all. Also did any of the husbands, Ie Kevin & Martin remarry? Thank you to EHS & anyone who can answer the above questions Cheers 🇬🇧👧

I think I can answer your questions. I know that Sally is married to Tim Metcalfe, has been for a few years now. Rita married Elsie Tanners Son and I think one more time after. Gail married Richard and then 3 or 4 more men after that. They all ended in divorce bar one who died I stopped watching modern corrie in 2017

Oh and Martin had a "relationship" with a teenager in the early 2000s. I don't remember him with anyone else before he left Kevin... He cheated on Sally and had a Son who's 12plus years old. I can't remember if he remarried. Ashley remarried after Maxine but that ended in tragedy

Martin had an affair with a nurse too, not the Irish one, another one who was in Waterloo rd. Think they moved to Liverpool in the end.

Ooh i think Tania is much more devious & cunning than Elsie ever was, she didnt chase after her neighbours husbands However, i love the Tania character! Shes like a shrew Very malicious & enjoys the discomfort of others Makes you think.. was she born that way or did she suffer disappointments & comparisons as a child? Too complex for Corrie really Although i think any students studying sociology would do well studying old Corrie episodes Even I, looking back over episodes from the 1970s & 80s which i lived through as a young adult, can see vast differences in public opinion, tastes, views & values of those times Looking back over its a different world in many respects Id also say alot better than today in many respects. Cheers 🇬🇧👧

No way. When Denise initially moved to The Street there was some resemblance before the writers and producers lost the plot. Pat Phoenix was magnetic and had star quality. Tanya is bloodless and pursuing husbands and boyfriends of others is like a sport for her. Elsie Tanner had a heart of gold.

Oh your welcome Bernadette! Are you not UK 🇬🇧 based? There was a famous TV presenter/prankster by the name of Jeremy Beadle who also had a deformed hand like Denise. Sadly he’s no longer with us.
