@@shylinh5939 We have David Neilson's (Roy's actor), wife to thank for him being kept on, she worked with children on the autism spectrum back in 1995, and as such suggested that Roy could have it, explaining his behaviours as being harmless social ineptitude rather than menacing, psychopathic behaviour, and it was this sympathetic reinvention that kept Roy on.

I'm surprised Bet let him swan right back in and plant both feet firmly under the table. She didn't even pretend to try to get him to stay at a b&b or hotel. Thought she wdve at least made some sort of verbal stance or unsubtle dispute on that.

Enough with the Vicky and Steve storyline, in fact enough with wooden-top Steve full stop. The storyline is tedious and just as tedious as Mavis and Derek's Gnome.
@SuzyQ3342 жыл бұрын
It's dragging on isn't it? They did it with Derek & Mavis (pre-gnome-gate) and that got tired as well. The difference is that Derek & Mavis eventually got married and were and still are quite a good comedy duo whereas with Steve and Vicky there's no humour and no depth to either of the characters. I finally had enough tonight and googled the outcome. No spoilers but I can now fast-forward all scenes with Steve and Vicky (and bloody Alec) knowing I'm not missing anything.

Interesting to see Roy Cropper character at the starting point. I find him to be much different than the Roy I know and love. Pestering Deidre for a drink?? I wonder why they changed him so drastically or he evolved with the storylines.
@christinefougere2 жыл бұрын
I always wondered that too.
@littlecorporal49102 жыл бұрын
David Neilson (Roy's actor), had a wife who worked with children on the autism spectrum back in the day. He wanted Roy to stay around longer than was originally intended, so he reinvented him as a sympathetic, socially inept character rather than the menacing weirdo he started out as. A lot of Roy's behaviours could be explained by him being autistic, and as no one really knew what Aspergers was in 1995, Roy became a hit with viewers as a result of this new portrayal.

I feel like that as well, although I did say the same thing about Queen Hilda & here I am, some 7 years after she left. There are plenty of the old characters left after Julie departs, but this really does mark one of the final lines in the sand of old & new Street. I'll grudgingly hang around to see what happens after her departure, whilst trying to find some other cosy old show to takes it's place. It's been great company throughout 'the thing', living on my own in the countryside has it's benefits, but it can be quiet & as most modern TV is unwatchable, this has been great company, since 'it' started, in spring of 2020, I've watched from 1975 up to 95, it's quite a ride watching 20 years of TV in under 2 ;-).

Ha I’ve pretty much the same thing but I’m really really struggling with 96/97.. it seemed to fall off a cliff after Bet and then Raquel left. And to compound my misery Janice Battersby just appeared! 😩

@@EveHenleySpread Ah, they're about to arrive are they, I think many might not see much difference between them & Jack & Vera, but they lack the charm & nuance of the Duckworth's.
