niceguy217 birds have all the Great Outdoors to live in, not sure why they want to damage aircraft. Here in Winnipeg, geese are a huge problem. Hey Jon and Sean. A little background, a comment or two and some questions.Background: I am not a pilot. It has always been a dream, but most likely not gonna happen. I am 62 now and don't have the time or resources to follow the dream. I just live vicariously through Microsoft Flight Simulator, You Tube Videos and a lot of reading.Comments: First of all you guys have the best You Tube Channel. I follow a couple others (P1D, Capt Joe etc) but I have only subscribed to yours. Cant wait for the update notifications for new videos. As a non-pilot I really look forward to the Tech Videos.Love the CRM between you two. In my mind, I can see where flying together for so long could breed complacency and a degree of implied trust...which is necessary, but could very easily lead to disaster. You guys maintain the checks and balances. They are probably routine between you, but nonetheless, you maintain them. Well Done!Questions: I have three right now. Will certainly be asking more.1. On the takeoff roll there are callouts for "80-Cross check"..V1, Vr and V2. I understand those. I don't have any info on the "60-Hold callout" What is that?2. Out the rightside cockpit camera looking back towards the wing, I see an inverted 1-2-3-4 indicator. What is that?3. On a approach I hear a "ref in X..sync in X" callout. I know the REF is the referenced landing speed, but don't understand the "sync" callout. What is that?Thanks to you and all the pilots who follow your channel and bear with me on some potentially "obvious" questions to most of you.
@CorporatePilotLife
@CorporatePilotLife 6 жыл бұрын
Hey Tim! Glad to have you here on the channel. You seem to have a great hold and love for aviation. Before I answer your questions, I would like to make one suggestion. If you haven't already, and if you have the physical ability, find a local flight school and go for a quick "Discovery Flight". Most schools offer these for less than $100 to go up and experience flight for 45 minutes or so. A good instructor will at least let you fly the plane a bit. I used to do these quite often and they were always a treat for me, as I got to introduce this amazing thing to those who haven't been able to experience it yet. Now for your questions. 1. The 60 knot Hold call is a gulfstream specific callout for when the auto-throttles go into a hold mode. We are verifying that the power is properly set before that point. If not, we will have to disengage them and manually advance the throttle to the correct position. 2. Those numbers are nothing cool. They are the electrical connection points for the heated window. All four of the cockpit windows are electrically heated. 3. The sink callout on final approach is the vertical speed in hundreds of feet per minute. We like to see between 600 and 1,000 for most airports. I hope that answers your questions for now. Feel free to ask all you like!
@timcrawley7184
@timcrawley7184 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the response guys. That answers some questions. I have a whopping 10 hours of flight time with an instructor so a "Discovery Flight" is a little passed me. LOL. My Father in Law was a private pilot and used to take me up all the time. (an old Cessna 150). I also had an old friend who was a Ferry Pilot and let me ride right seat long before restrictions prohibited this. Also had a family friend who was a captain for Mohawk Airlines (probably pre-dates you) and he let me join the cockpit on commercial flights. Pretty sure this is where I got the bug. Again, long before restrictions.Keep it going guys. Vamonos!

I am commenting from Australia after noting the crazy numbers of ‘biz jets’ in the background at your airports. Are they in use like yours or just private runabouts. I can’t imagine that there is enough business for them all, there are twenty or thirty on display at each stop. Thanks for putting the work in to show us what you do. The flights are strangely soothing and my ears get a workout trying to decipher what the controllers are saying tho I am getting better at this. I look forward to all your productions.

Thank you! Believe it or not, most of the planes you see are in use. Some may not be as busy as ours, but others might be far busier. Australia is still on my wish list of places to visit, hopefully someday soon!

At 17:15 ATC gave you a heading of 120 and an altitude of 1200 until established. However, the readback was 1600, not 1200. Any risk of a pilot deviation since ATC did not catch the error? Should ATC be queried in that instance since the approach calls for 1600 until SZABO or would ATC''s instruction override the plate? Thanks
@CorporatePilotLife
@CorporatePilotLife 6 жыл бұрын
You're actually the second person to point that out. I never even noticed it until now. I'm thinking the controller intended to say 1600 feet for a few reasons. 1) He didn't correct us when Jon read back 1600. 2) As you noticed, according to the ILS approach chart, 1600 feet is the minimum altitude authorized at SAZBO intersection. 3) I could be wrong on this one, but I think 1200 feet is below the minimum vectoring altitude for that area, so he couldn't even legally give us 1200 feet at all. Had we noticed it at the time, we should have asked for clarification on it. My understanding is that if we read back the wrong thing and ATC doesn't catch it, it's on them, so I'm not really sure where the line gets drawn for deviations on that one.

Pilot read backs are critical. If the pilot complies with what is read back, ATC is responsible. Read backs are a pilots insurance. It is CRITICAL that controllers listen and process read backs. When a controller is busy, like chess, they are thinking several moves ahead, and can be distracted from read backs.

As always GR8 Video Sean. Stoopit question tho, I always hear y’all call out I’m assuming FELCH after liftoff, care to elaborate as to what exactly that means? I get the 60 hold part, but I’m kinda going they might checklists and trying to piece together what that can mean and I’m lost.

FLCH is short for flight level change. That mode is used for climbs and descents, based on whether the altitude pre-selector is set above or below the current altitude. It will go to max power for climbs and idle power for descents, then pitch for whatever speed we have set in the airspeed/MACH window. It basically performs a constant speed climb or descent with full or idle power. I hope that all makes sense...
