In this episode we remove and compare the old water pump to the new water pump, one is longer than the other, I show you how to use shims and how to make your own shims, shimming to water pump.
Also we remove and install a new thermostat and gasket, I’ll show you how to remove a bolt that is stuck and all the problems that people come across, I show you how to prepare the gaskets for the water pump and thermostat housing. We also reinstalled the radiator.

Hello. I have the 1970 Camaro SS in process. The screw at minute 16:20 on my Camaro was fused to the water outlet, it was impossible to remove. I drilled it and added a long screw that finally tightened well. I keep watching the whole process. I have to say that these are the most useful videos I have found for my Camaro. Thank you so much :D

Hello to all who are watching this video, Tom is very good and informative on all his video's , please pay attention to what he is doing at 16 min's in by tightening and loosening the bolt. All old classic cars are full of surface rust, dirt and grime, which tend to make breaking nuts and bolts loose very difficult. to avoid most problems, try this method first and you will find it to be very useful, and less stripped nuts and bolts.......wrench on it

Do the bolts need to be torqued?

35 to 40 is good, if you over torque you could easily brake the pump

@@ProblemSolverGarage maybe stupid question, but what is the purpose of that threaded hole at the top of the water pump (the one with the allen head)? Is it to bleed the engine coolant?

@@bmwspeedman As far as I know there’s no need to bleed the system on that engine and c3 Corvette, the pump is universal for different vehicles so on a different vehicle there might be a hose outlet there. Could use it to bleed the system if you had a problem with air in it but you just need to fill it up and run it, as it’s running just keep topping it up, the air comes out on its own in that particular design. Once I’m filling up the Fluid I will find out for sure the procedure just not there yet. But I believe there is no bleeding Involved

Put your hand on the hoses that go to the heater core, those get warm right away if there is no air in your system, if they don’t start warming up then there’s air in your system, literally a minute you can feel the heat

Great video. Question on the lower hose. Could you have installed it on the radiator first and then dropped the whole thin down as an assembly>?

I've got a 73 corvette and my pump is the long pump plus the shaft where the pulley goes is 3/4 " in size

Really like this guy's videos. If you're following him please remember to use torque specs. Especially on your fan clutch it should be 15 to 18 ft. pounds. Over talking them can cause them to snap. People have lost their lives or severely damaged their cars due to overtorking these bolts.

Excellent! Is the fitting you show at 13:29 an inlet or an outlet? I plan on capping the ports that go to and from the heater core, instead of bypassing it by joining the 2 hoses, so I would like to know if that is an inlet for coolant or the outlet. Sorry for the newbie question but I am not quite sure how the coolant circulates... . Great video!

you need to run a hose from one to the other to create a loop. I can’t remember which is which there’s pictures online of the flow direction.

@@ProblemSolverGarage Thank you. Yes, I know about the loop, but others simply cancel the hoses and cap the inlet outlet ports (pump & manifold). I'll check for the flow direction online. Keep up with the great videos. Perhaps one on choke adjustment, timing, air mixture screws, carb rebuild....

Hi, i am from France, so my technical language may not be accurate ... our c3 from 1979 mechanical gear has a steering pulley that does not turn really straight. You see?
